“I don’t Like Talking “Politics” BUT? Like Me, Are You Fed UP?!

A Special Share and Spotlight on “What The HELL? About “Politics!
By my good friend Kenneth Abraham .  .  . “Let’s Sound Off”

Give us a Real Choice!

The public is so fed up and disgusted by nonsensical political policies and obstructionist politicians that … well, just look at the current presidential debates! We have come to the point where useful, informative political discussion takes a back seat to sensationalism! All across America, the public yearns for action, meaningful progress, and politicians who will act to improve this nation!

It is time to give us a real choice! The Commission on Presidential Debates [CPD}, a body made up of longtime Democrat and Republican political operatives, has ruled that one must show a national polling percentage of 15% to be included in the Presidential Debates. This is absurd, and it is a genuine serious roadblock. This requirement is an obviously arbitrary construct, designed to limit the field to the two parties, Democrats. and Republicans.

.

.

We call ourselves a democracy; let’s open it up! You might recall that in the Primary debates, several candidates on stage, for both parties, had polling figures around 1%, 2% or 5 %.  Why 15% for the “Main Event”?!  The public would only benefit by the inclusion of more candidates. The arguments against allowing 3 or 4 participants in these nationally broadcast debates, such as “it would be too confusing”, clearly are bogus, and changes should be made.

Consider, for example, that the candidates of the Libertarian Party, Governor Johnson, and Governor Weld, have qualified to be on the ballot in all 50 states and Washington D. C. Anyone can vote for them, yet most (the 80 million viewers of the Presidential debates!) cannot know their message! The opportunity for Americans to learn what they have to offer is stifled by the “15%” rule set by the CPD. Demand change … demand that candidates with such widespread support as the Libertarian ticket and the Green ticket be included in the Presidential debates!

.

“President Obama To Donald Trump: ‘Stop Whining’ : NPR “President Obama had some harsh words for Donald Trump’s charges that the presidential election is going to be rigged — “Stop whining.”

.

So American’s,  “Raise Your Voices, all of you who, like me, see no sense in limiting the field to two people who, by all accounts …all surveys … are disliked by more Americans than any candidates in the history of the nation. Speak out!

Ken Abraham, founder of Citizens for Criminal Justice, former Deputy Attorney General, Dover, DE.  Kenneth Abraham.

*    *    *    *    *

“I have to agree with Ken here. I can tell you that all over social media it has been a “free for all!” as I myself have lost a few friends to this election season. They seem to have to force they political views on me in a very rude and bossy kind of way. SORRY, but I don’t for that! YES, everyone has a right to their Opinions, but they DON’T have the right to force it on others, and I am really getting tired of it! So I can not wait for the 2016 Elections to BE OVER! How about you?”

And I am SO tired of hearing Mr. Trump talk and whine about everything other than the important issue’s facing our nation today. As far as I am concerned, he himself is the one unraveling his own Campaign. And I just love watching Hilliary Clinton’s face at each debate. She knows exactly what Trump is doing. He sabotaging his own Presidental bid as she graciously watches it happen without saying a word. LOVE IT!!  I agree with our President, Trump needs to stop whining about everything that is just “ALL  ABOUT HIM.”

.

.

“I have never seen in my lifetime, or in modern political history, any presidential candidate trying to discredit the elections and the elections process before votes have even taken place,” the president said. “It’s unprecedented. It happens to be based on no facts.”     ~”President Obama”

But as I close out my own thoughts and opinions of MY own, I will say to all American’s, please, this Election is an Important one. So exercise your Rights on November 8th, 2016! No matter WHO you vote for?

It Has Been a Great 3-year Run with “Lyon Book & Social Media Promos” Readers and Authors!

Hello Readers, Friends, and Authors,

 .

is-your-cat-about-to-leave-you

.

So it is with a heavy heart, but a very excited one as well, as I announce that I will be winding down and closing ‘Lyon Book & Social Media Promotions.’  I hope you will not be too upset with me as “The Man Upstairs” seems to have a different path I am to take ..LOL

Almost a year ago I was offered a new recovery writing columnist position with a premier publication called, “In Recovery Magazine’s ~ The Author’s Cafe.” And most of you know I live my life in recovery from gambling addiction with alcohol abuse for almost 10-years. But also research new recovery books, films, and other items for our magazine’s “The Bookstand.” It is a great way for recovery artists to get exceptional national and international exposure with advertising their talent and craft in our magazine.

When I first started book promoting, I wanted to help the many fantastic recovery authors and writers out there learn how to promote their books throughout social media. And at the time it seemed only mainstream authors were looking for help and not many recovery authors at the time. Now it seems that has changed.

.

.
So it is now time to change my direction in life and in my career as I am also writing for many other publications besides IRM.  And yes, my clients told me they didn’t want me to go! LOL. That made me feel AWESOME!

But honestly, I just don’t have the time to all of it. It is a huge accomplishment for me both professionally and financially, but, they will be full-time positions. My recovery has and needs to always come first in my life, especially if I can also make a living at it. My recovery and my faith are what brought these blessings my way. And why I have a beautiful life today.

So, I didn’t want everyone to feel like have abandoned you. I will have changed a few things already and will continue to have my “Monthly Hot Book Picks” list and I will keep most importantly my  “Authors Tips and Advice Page” going as well and keep it updated so I can still help and support ALL Authors to learn How and Where to Promote your Book. And readers can still come find awesome reads by many fine authors.

.

.

It truly has been fun and an honor to have had the chance to help many authors these past years. And you just never know? The future could more changes and maybe I will be back.

So Thank You to all who have come to visit and to those who helped make my Former Business a Huge Success! I hope you still come visit my New “Cat Lyon’s Reading Den” anytime!

I will miss you all very much! XOXO *Cat*

Blessings Friends,

Book Review of “The Path of the Child” by Author, Sojourner McConnell. 5-Stars!

The Path of the Child – By Author,   Sojourner McConnell – On Amazon

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Seventeen-year-old Melanie Easton grew up in a lonely loveless home and accepted that she was facing an empty life. Unable to reach out to other children that she attended elementary and High School with, her quiet existence seemed to be her lot in life. One morning fate dropped a new friend into her life. As unexpected as it was that she made this friend, she noticed that changes started taking place in her life. After making a new friend, she finds that changes are occurring in her life. Will they be wonderful changes?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

.

.

Born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. Sojourner McConnell continued to live in Pleasant Grove while raising her three children until 2000. At that time Sojourner moved to Phoenix, Arizona. She thrived in Phoenix, finding creativity and independence.

In 2010 she moved back East to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She lives in Winchester, Kentucky with one of her daughters and three of her thirteen grandchildren. She has six grandchildren in Alabama and four that live in Michigan.

The Path of the Child is Sojourner’s first book. She is currently completing a second book at this time. This book is expected to be released in 2016. When not writing, she is busy entertaining her Australian Shepherd, Beau. Beau gets jealous when she spends too much time working on the computer.

Note: My dear friend Sojourner is not only a fantastic writer and author, but many know her as a passionate reader and book reviewer on her fabulous blog: The Page Turner – Vickie Goodwin. https://vickgoodwin.wordpress.com/  Make sure you stop by and say hello!

BOOK REVIEW:   5-STARS!

“I Could Relate To This Coming of Age Story Personally”

Where do I begin? Even though this a piece of fiction, you learn right away that this story is one of many young girls journies and path in life. Starting from childhood to about 17, Melanie has faced abuse, abandonment, non-existent parental love as the list goes on. I could actually “feel” many of the same feelings Melanie felt. I to had a rough childhood. As I, and Melanie, just wanting to be heard or acknowledged from your parents would have been a sliver of hope for unconditional love.

I don’t like to spoil a good book, so what I will tell you is that the author did an exceptional job in writing this storyline as it shares many topics through her characters that brought meaning.
And when a writer can make you feel what she is writing with a tear shed, a smile with a laugh, a girl longing to find some truth, the power of friendship and feeling her character has ‘Triumphed’ by the end of the story?

Now that’s what makes a book a great read like this one!

And that is exactly what you get when reading “The Path of the Child.” It leaves you feeling inspired, learning the power of love, and shows we all have a “seed” within us to overcome anything in our lives through Melanie…. I will be waiting for book 2.

My Review of Dogbone Soup

And the book reviews keep coming for the loved Author! Bette A Stevens and her book, DOG BONE SOUP …. Cat Lyon

literaryeyes's avatarMary Clark, Writer

dogbone-soupThis is a wonderfully engaging and thought-provoking story. Bette Stevens’ young boy growing up in poverty in 1960s America, reminds me of another child, adrift on a raft on a mighty river, and the issues illuminated by that author of social stigma, individual resilience, and integrity. Huckleberry Finn is also poor and an outsider, and yet becomes a symbol for the equality of all humanity, and the finer spirit in all of us, in Mark Twain’s hands. I felt a similar quality in Stevens’ distinctive book.

Stevens’ skill with dialect also makes this book unique. She doesn’t overdo it, but lets it flow like spring water, or rain in the forest. Her descriptions take you into the scene and the characters’ minds. I felt I was in the family’s cabin, fishing by the river, riding a bike into town, being bullied and ostracized, and ashamed of a parent’s bad behavior…

Another fine recovery writer and Author, Amber Tozer and her new release: Sober Stick Figure: A Memoir now Available on Amazon. I just finished this one and what a RIDE!!

.
Sober Stick Figure: A Memoir by [Tozer, Amber]
.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Sober Stick Figure is a memoir from stand-up comedian Amber Tozer, chronicling her life as an alcoholic and her eventual recovery— starting with her first drink at the age of seven—all told with the help of childlike stick figures. Amber writes and illustrates the crazy and harsh truths of being raised by alcoholics, becoming one herself, stagnating in denial for years, and finally getting sober.

As a teenager, Amber is an overachieving student-athlete who copes with her family’s alcoholic tragedies by focusing on her achievements. It quickly takes a funny and dark turn when she starts to experiment with booze and ignores the warning signs of alcoholism. Through blackouts, cringe-worthy embarrassments, and pounding hangovers, she convinces herself that she “just likes to party.” She leaves her hometown of Pueblo, Colorado to follow her dreams, and ends up in New York City, spending lots of time binge drinking, passing out on trains, and telling jokes on stage.

She then moves to Los Angeles, thinking some sunshine and show business will save her. Eventually hitting rock bottom, she has a moment of clarity and knows she has to stop drinking. It’s now been seven years since that last drink, and she’s ready to tell her story. Sober Stick Figure is adventurous, hilarious, sad, sweet, tragic—and ultimately inspiring.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Amber Tozer has written for the Cartoon Network’s animated sketch series MAD and Adult Swim’s Moral Orel. Her tweets have been featured by Ellen, Huffington Post, Playboy, and Mandatory. She co-created #nitTWITS, a Twitter-based web series that features writers and performers from SNL, Modern Family, The Office and Conan. She has appeared on Last Comic Standing, performs stand-up comedy across the US, and has written about sobriety for The Fix.com, After Party, and Thought Catalog. She lives in Los Angeles. Our last fantastic new book and recovery podcaster is by Author, Roger Stark, and his Reclaiming Your Addicted Brain: A Recovery GPS: How to find your path to Recovery and not get lost along the way . . . . with Irwin Morse.

.
Reclaiming Your Addicted Brain: A Recovery GPS: How to find your path to Recovery and not get lost along the way by [Morse, Irwin, Stark, Roger]
.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

The tool of self-destruction so effectively wielded by the addict is his own mind. The addict takes a perfectly good brain and, by relying on thinking errors, rationalization, justification, and every form of denial known to man, creates an addict where a person used to be.

“Reclaiming Your Addicted Brain” reviews the return journey from addict land, the learning of how to leave our thinking errors behind. Written around the recovery story of one man from alcohol and sex addiction, clinical notes, and comments appear throughout the story helping the reader to understand this baffling disease. Addicts report being able to see their own behaviors that were previously hidden from them when they are manifest in someone else. Reading George’s (the book’s addicted character) story and misadventures creates ‘aha’ moments of understanding that can open the doors to recovery.

This is definitely a “How To” book. George presents his “legs of a stool” analogy that eloquently describes the needed steps to recovery. The clinician’s voice adds step by step directions on how to gain the key ‘Skills of Recovery.”
