My Name Is Sam … and Heaven Is Still Shining Through is another fabulous read by Joe Siccardi.
This is an amazing light Christian based fictional memoir about Sam and her life struggles. It is quite an emotional but yet inspiring journey. I enjoyed getting to know Sam and seeing how she was able to cope with her life struggles. I give My Name Is Sam … and Heaven Is Still Shining Through five-plus stars.
I highly recommend Sam’s story to all other readers.

I give 5 stars to “My Name is Sam…and Heaven Is Still Shining Through,” a fictional memoir, written by Joe Siccardi. This is a great book! I felt like it started a bit slow, just (my opinion) too many conversations, but about a quarter of the book later, I was hooked!
Our main character, of course, is Sam. The author starts the story in her college days but gives us plenty of glimpses of her younger years also. When Sam meets the love of her life, we are able to follow their marriage, the heartache of breaking various news to both sets of parents, and watching the choices that they all make as they are combining families.
Sam shares her decisions and rationalizations with us as we fall in love with her! We get to follow her throughout her life, share in her joys and sorrows, (yes, I am being intentionally vague, sorry). All the while we are knowing that God is on His throne, and nothing will happen in Sam’s life without His knowing.
I don’t want to say too much and give away the storyline, but I can say, if you don’t pick up this book, you will be missing out. I feel like the back of the book really doesn’t do the story justice! My Name is Sam, is a clean story. I think it would be suitable for teens and up. It is an easy read and a must-read! (This review contains my own opinions.)
While there is a Christian worldview to the book, it isn’t preachy and the focus stays on navigating the joys and sorrows of life. Some laughter, some tears, which is my personal preference in a book. The characters were reasonably developed and authentic. Definitely recommend reading, especially for a beach read this summer or fall reading!

Exceptional Fiction Memoir …
If you happened to have read Author Joe Siccardi’s debut book of “Heaven Shining Through” like I did, then you are going to enjoy reading this new full-length novel, the follow-up and the full story about the main character ‘Samantha,’ actually the backstory to her life. The perils and the fun of Sam’slife, if you will, is written, flows, and is told as if you and Sam are sitting in a coffee shop and reminiscing about life memories. It’s a definite 5 stars! …….
Right from the first chapter, the author draws you in, and as I was reading, I felt as though I was reading about my own life and primarily through my 20s of meeting friends at a dance club mixing it up over some drinks and having fun. But that is just the tip of the story iceberg of Sam’slife. With a Christian filter, the story unfolds, and Sam begins to learn that Gods presence has always been within her life as she looks back and even when she was never aware.
When a writer makes you feel apart of the story, it means a great job with the writing was accomplished which is offered in this novel and so much more. By the time you learn all about Sam’s life, you will wish she was real as you could be life-long friends! This read has a little of everything about relationships, marriage, even parenting trials. The mother and daughter drama, some humor, and a few tissue moments are a few of the highlights.
Even though Sam has gone through some perils and beauty in her life through the years, Sam is consistently reminded that even in the worst of days, God has always been with her in protection and love through her life storms and as well as all the good life brings.
Just a fantastic read for anyone, especially for women. Even though it is a work of fiction, it reads like a real-life story if you enjoy memoirs or a unique fictional biography.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I grew up during the 1950s on my paternal grandfathers farm in rural southwestern Ontario, Canada. My loving parents are both gone now, and I miss them every day, but I still have my brother. I am Mom to two wonderful sons, and loving grandmother to three beautiful granddaughters, and one handsome grandson. I am also a great grandmother – or G-G – as I am known to my delightful great-grandson.
I have always loved to write. This adoration for English composition began in grade school and carried into my adult years. Though I am unprofessionally trained in the field of writing, I have always possessed the uncanny ability of unique expression in stories that could grasp the heart and soul of the reader. I am an Interior Decorator by trade, and owned and operated a residential home service for twenty-eight years before retiring from that field. My writing venture began in 2001 when I became a serious writer with the intent on seeing where it could possibly take me. Over the years I had written an assortment of both contemporary and traditional poetry, and from this, I put together my first collection under the title, Feelings: A Rhythmic Journey in Thought which I self-published in 2009.
This was followed in 2010 with my first collection of children’s short stories, entitled, Young Minds. This collection was based on my own childhood as well as stories I wrote for my grandchildren. In 2010 I published the first part of the original two-part Passion in Paris that I began writing in 2001. This two-part romantic fiction drama was short-lived, and it was also not the way I had envisioned my first venture into this genre to be nor the publishing of it, and because of this, the end result was inept, so I took it off market it until I could revise it into my original concept, that of which I finally brought to fruition in the 818 pages, 4-star-Amazon awarded, romantic fiction grand scale novel, Passions in Paris: Revelations of a Lost Diary, which I released in 2013. Leading up to this, I published a new poetry collection entitled, Impressions which I released in 2011.
I followed this with a revised children’s short story collection, containing previously published stories, including those written for my grandchildren plus additional new stories, under the title, Through the Eyes of Innocence. This was followed in 2012 by the comedy short, The Misadventures of Derwood Tugbottom. This was followed in 2015 by the 5-star-awarded romantic fiction drama, Willow’s Walk. In 2017, I following that novel with the second in the Derwood Tugbottom comedy series, entitled, Derwood Returns. The early titles, Feelings, Young Minds, and the two-part Passion in Paris: Connections and Directions respectfully, are no longer available.

<<<< What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Perils of Autumn.I have always adored horses and admired nurses. I find the horse a most intelligent animal – if not the most intelligent, at least in my opinion – and I always loved to watch them, speak with them, and applaud their wonderful movements. I loved to ride in my youth, even had my own pony as a girl, however, I never rode professionally, or entered show competitions, but I would take in as many as I could. I have always held immense respect for nurses, and the dedication they possess when it comes to healing those who are ailing, recuperating from surgery or an accident, and it is all done with expert care and compassion. Because of the admiration for these two subjects, I decided to combine them in a story that centers around both.
<<<<< Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m not exactly sure what ‘unusual’ means in this question. However, I do like to scribble ideas and dialogue in a notebook that I keep for ideas for future projects. My desk is always littered with small notes pertaining to whatever I’m working on at the moment. I used to write in the evening often well into the night, but since retiring from my business I now apply, and have for a while now, the day hours that I once worked to my writing. However, it can often be distracting and annoying when the phone rings, a dog continually barks outside, or the usual noise throughout the house as well as outside that carries in.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have great appreciation and respect for a few authors who are primarily known as authors of children’s books, and they are Canadian authoress, Lucy Maude Montgomery ( Anne of Green Gables, plus the Emily of New Moon series and more) British author Anna Sewell (Black Beauty) and American author Laura Ingalls Wilder (Little House on the Prairie series of books). I also enjoy the workings of Mark Twain (Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn, both classics). Fav authors of adult works are Nora Roberts, Kathryn Stockett (The Help), Stephen King ( numerous horror & psychological thrillers) and British authoress, Emile Bronte (Wuthering Heights). I also enjoy the work of fellow Niagara author, Gina IaFrate. There are many talented, self-published, local authors in your area; check them out, and give them a read. You might find yourself pleasantly entertained.
What are you working on now?
I am currently finishing the third installment of my Derwood Tugbottom comedy series, entitled, Derwood Goes Caribbean. Each book in this series takes the bumbling, retired London England City Hall Official, on another eccentric adventure, where he is sure to tickle your funny-bone with his hysterical antics. In the latest, he, and his best friend, Scotsman Robert McEwen, board The Travelling Minstrel as it sets course for the Caribbean with a ship full of singles looking for a good time.
I have also begun work on the follow-up novel to The Perils of Autumn, entitled, Return to Autumn.This second part of the ongoing story introduces readers to a few new characters, solves a deep secret and brings it out into the open, and carries the reader to the end of this touching, and not-soon-forgotten story.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use all social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Pinterest, Goodreads, Google+, Authors.com, as well as my official website http://www.rusty-blackwood.com, where readers may find assorted information about me, my work, my titles, and keep caught up with me through my Journal/Blog. I also write a monthly, end of month Newsletter that carries my news of the month, whatever that may be. It’s a great way to keep engaged with readers on my contact list, and them with me.
I have worked with my stellar marketing rep & publicist, Don McCauley, since 2011, who looks after me well and also keeps my name before the public eye. That is most important, for if you are out of sight, you are out of mind. I also work with Joe Crawford, of the Niagara based The Joe Show on the TJSN Network, and I have recently begun working with author and writer, Catherine Townsend-Lyon of Lyon Media Services, beginning with the promotion of the soon to be released, Readers Favorite 5-star-award-winning, romantic fiction drama, The Perils of Autumn.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write what you know. There is nothing more discouraging or upsetting than to undertake a subject in written words that you know little about and make it entertaining and legible to the reader. Often writers draw from life experiences, I do, for there is no better research than what you have experienced first hand. But when you are very young, you have yet to have much experience to draw from, therefore research everything thoroughly. I believe this suggestion could be taken by any writer, seasoned or not, but if you write about things you know about, you will find your finished piece a polished, fine offering for the eyes of any reader that chooses your title.
Critique is a large portion of writing; it is not always kind, and you must learn to take what you can from that and apply it to your craft. Do not expect that your first, even second or third title will be an instant success. It may or may not happen, but if you love to write, have a passion to write, then you will find a way to stick with it. It can be a very long, drawn-out process. Finally, do not let anyone tell you it cannot be done. Only you know the muse inside you, so let it speak to you, and have fun.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Pretty much what I said in the above prior question. Things take time, they rarely happen overnight, and if you go into this field with expectations that you put out a book and you are an instant celebrity with gold untold, then you may be badly disappointed. It may happen, there is nothing saying it won’t, but keep an open mind, and approach realistically.
What are you reading now?
Bestowed With Love And Splendor by Niagara author, Gina IaFrate. It is a wonderful story of a degraded-by-her-husband woman who finds herself in a heartbreaking, mentally abusive marriage. The heroine, an agent for a Niagara travel agency, is sent to the Island of Sardinia to assist their associate agency in setting up new programs for tourists. While there, she encounters the possibility of a life she could only dream about should she choose to remain in her present, loveless marriage and proceeds to struggle with a life that could be hers for the taking.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I am currently working on the 3rd installment of the Derwood Tugbottom comedy series, Derwood Goes Caribbean, and I will also be doing the 4th installment in the series, possibly the last, but that is still not decided, and I have started the follow-up novel to The Perils of Autumn, entitled Return to Autumn. This novel will carry readers to the end of this intense story. I am also planning a final poetry collection. I have written a huge array of contemporary and traditional poetry over the years, and I hope to compile them in a final collection.
I have also started a historical account of my family’s country music band, The Midnight Ramblers, entitled Ramblin’ Years: The Midnight Ramblers: A Biographical Account. I joined this band in 1963 at age 13 as a vocalist. I also learned to play acoustic guitar, and bass guitar, which I played from 1970 until the group ended in the mid-seventies.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring? Gone With the Wind, a map of the area, The Bible, and a photograph album of my family.

The Brilliant Game…where do I start book lovers? How about I start by writing that I am obsessed with this series and think that The Brilliant Game is the perfect conclusion to a series I have grown to love over the past few months. The Brilliant Game is the third book in the Hidden Motives series with the first book called Behind the Door and the sequel called Lara’s Journal. The first two books in the series floored me, honestly when I read them it was as if the exceptional author A. Gavazzoni had written my dream novel and that was because everything I love about literature was laced throughout these two books, so it is safe for me to write that I am obsessed with them! Now, when I finished book two, I admit that although I was excited to start book three a part of me was hesitant and this was because I loved the series and worried the conclusion would be a disappointment.
After all, I have read many series and the third book usually always fail so I was worried. However! When I started to read The Brilliant Game and take the plunge, I noticed straight away that A. Gavazzoni has done it again and has reunited me with her spellbinding literature that manages to terrify as well as thrill me from the start! That is why I am already going to recommend that you lovely readers read this book but once again if you need more convincing then continue to read to learn more book lovers!
The Brilliant Game once again reunites the reader with the much-beloved protagonist Simone Bennet, a psychiatrist who specializes in unusual and peculiar sex addictions. Over the course of the two previous books, Simone has endured a great deal, so much so that you worry for her and her mental health because she really has had a terrible time and sadly, in book three it gets even worse.
In book three Simone’s beloved daughter is kidnapped thanks to some previous unfinished ‘business’ I can’t spoil and this, of course, worries Simone greatly. Simone, however, realizes that she must continue to work, to treat her patients and to work with Carl, a New York attorney on a particular case they have been working on. All of this is happening why everybody else around her including law enforcement tries to find her daughter before it is too late. Will they be able to find her? Read the exceptional The Brilliant Game to find out!
The Brilliant Game is a haunting, terrifying and thrilling novel that bewitched as well as horrified me all at once. The Brilliant Game is the type of novel I love because I love any book that involves crime because I studied forensic psychology, so I love when psychological crimes are featured in a story. The Brilliant Game once again shocked me from the start because although I thought I knew where the book was going to go, it didn’t go that way and instead took a U-turn and wow it was shocking! The themes combined and laced throughout The Brilliant Game perfectly compliment the atmosphere of the book and story, the reader will experience mystery, action, terrifying and thrilling moments and many more exceptional themes.
As I read The Brilliant Game, I found myself racing through it, turning the pages with haste thanks to the addictive nature. What I loved the most about The Brilliant Game is that it was not a silly serial killer novel in which the author has to rely on gimmicks. Instead, the story is unique and has the perfect combination of crime, suspense, and mystery which are all perfectly weaved together by the exceptional author A. Gavazzoni who I must add book lovers is insanely talented!

A. Gavazzoni is an incredible author who has written a fantastic story and come up with a brilliant idea. Gavazzoni from the very start sets the tone of the novel, she lets her readers know that this is going to be a dark and atmospheric book thanks to her literature and wow was it!
Gavazzoni is an exceptional writer because she grabs her readers attention from the start very quickly and keeps them engrossed until the end. There are no long build-ups that drag in The Brilliant Game; instead, the reader will be thrown into the thick of the story quickly, and the result of this is exciting (and slightly terrifying!).
Overall The Brilliant Game is a superb novelthat has everything a reader would want in a story, it has a thrilling narrative, magnificent plot development and excellent characterization that will thrill and excite its readers so of course, I have to award this impressive piece of literature five stars! After reading all three of these novels, I don’t think there is a novel this author could write that I wouldn’t read. Even if I didn’t like the subject matter, I’m sure I would still read her books because she is such a fantastic writer. This is what made this books so special and such page turners… the author’s writing.
But I do not want to shortchange the story, the world the author built in these books. The story of Lara and Simone and the cast of other characters, was simply dazzling and wild.
My only disappointment was finishing this book and anxiously awaiting this author’s next book. Hoping it won’t be long.

Never Seen The Ending Coming and Wow, What A Finale of This Trilogy!
From the first awarding-winning “Behind the Door” begins a thrilling and steamy into of a sex game or was it murder? Through book one keeps you enthralled into then the backstory as Simone goes through all the journals in book two of “Lara’s Journal.” But book three? What a roller coaster ride of mishaps, circumstances, murder, and oh poor ‘Simone’ has been through more than one person could ever manage!
I never spoil a good read, that said, the author has seasoned her writing chops in the finale of this “Must Read Trilogy.” The author has a way of weaving in spicy steamy romance, sex, thrills, and suspense with loads of twists and turns all the while touching on topics like mental illness, psychiatry, sexual behaviors, and more interesting issues.
That is what makes this series unique and keeps you pulled in until the last page and exceptional plot and storyline. I think the end of this book’s description should really be at the VERY BEGINNING: “Fasten your seatbelts before you embark on this roller coaster, and prepare for the most unpredictable end.” Absolutely True!!

The Brilliant Game (Hidden Motives Book 3) by A. Gavazzoni hits the nail on the head with regard to mental illness. I have a mental illness and have been dealing with it for twenty-six years. This book gives the naked truth. It does not sugarcoat it. It truly gives you an understanding of the battles mentally ill people have to fight. It is not always roses and unicorns when dealing with a mental illness. The book has hot, R-rated sex. That does not bother me. Who am I to judge someone? Only God can do that.
Another beautiful thing is how real this novel feels.
I would recommend reading this series in order. In each book, the author widens the reader’s knowledge of mental illness. Also, the development of the characters is woven beautifully into this series. I received this book free for review. Kudos to the author for her understanding and kindness toward people like me who have a mental illness, for how she makes the story come alive, and for the suspense she brings to her books. These are the reasons I give this book five stars.
This was a good read. The simultaneous plot line between Lara’s journal and Simone’s real-life make it very interesting. There is a lot of sexual content which makes it a mature read, but adds to the fun.
Plus, by the end of this
book, there are a number of surprises that surfaced to add to the it’s impact. I was very pleased.

Find The Seeker!, written by Author’s Clifford Stevens and Master Genro Xuan Lou, Laoshi, who is, by the way, one of the few living Zen Masters of our generation, have poured their wisdom and souls into this book. Simply well written, you will take a path of freedom, deep inner peace, and a journey of inspiration and enlightenment while reading this book. It doesn’t read as a traditional new age, or Zen type read, it truly will uplift you no matter who or what you believe to be a “power greater than oneself.”
I will note, I maintain life in recovery from addiction. This book can also serve as a type of “life workbook” for those who want to live a full deep meaningful live while maintaining recovery.
It can be read as a guide with the advice and unique techniques shared inside as part of our recovery work and look “within oneself” in changing those thinking errors and character defects. That is why my favorite chapters I got the most from was “The Ego and Non- Thinking.” Both author’s knowledge of knowing there are plenty of books out there about meditation and “how to’s” is why this book was exceptionally written and much different than those books.
This read inspires and motivates one to go out in the world and enjoy living life now and be present, be it travel, exploring, or through life adventures. It will guide you to a fulfilling and happy destination and well-balanced living for a lifetime. It can be adapted to any faith or as we recovery people say, to whomever our “Higher Power” happens to be.
That is just some of what I have learned reading this fantastic book and much more!

The description of this book intrigued me thanks to the sentence ‘a powerful, straight-talking wake-up call to people of all faiths and confessions.’ When I read this sentence, I was intrigued and wanted to learn more and so I knew that I had to read this book as well as review it for all of you lovely readers. Now that I have finished reading Find The Seeker, I can happily write that this self-help/spiritual guide is one of the most incredible books I have ever read from the genre so please book lovers, do read this book as you won’t regret it!
Find The Seeker is written by Genro Xuan Lou Laoshi, a Zen master and his pupil, Clifford Stevens. Throughout their enchanting book, they will enlighten their readers on many subjects; topics such as mind, body and spirit and personal growth as well as how to attain happiness. The authors of this stunning piece of nonfiction focus on the spiritual dimension… a dimension that everybody shares. They will blissfully take their readers on a journey on how they can live a fulfilling life, attain happiness and how to grow to who you want to be. The journey the reader is taken on is a beautiful one and will enlighten many readers.
The journey the reader is taken on throughout this book is incredible and they are taken on this journey in a flawless way, thanks to the two talented authors of this book.
