Where Shadows Breathe And Truth Sleeps by A. Gavazzoni was complex and intriguing. The pace was steady, with a few unexpected twists. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat, and it was hard to put the book down. I was hooked from the start, and it was difficult to distinguish between the characters and who I could trust. I was guessing until the end. The writing style was engaging, and the action was vivid.

It was easy to visualize the events and become part of them. The characters were realistic, and Simone grew from being a victim to a woman determined to reclaim her life. This book was excellently written and kept my attention throughout. The ending had a shocking twist that I never expected or saw coming. I am still trying to wrap my head around it.” Very highly recommend it!

The Other Shoes of Larry Martin by Pavane Ravel follows Larry Martin, a young reporter in Atlanta, whose employment and housing collapse in quick succession after his dismissal from his job with an extremist website. After eviction, he moves through the city and nearby towns, living in his car and makeshift camps while trying to continue writing. His days are governed by immediate survival needs as he navigates constant exposure to authority and worsening physical conditions.

An unexpected professional connection offers him a route back into journalism and leads him to document the conditions he once viewed indirectly. As his work begins to circulate, Larry remains focused on staying alive while reconciling himself to his complete change of circumstances with the consequences of earlier, deeply held beliefs and decisions.

The Other Shoes of Larry Martin by Pavane Ravel is a searing literary novel that leans heavily into a moral reckoning in contemporary America. Ravel takes time in unfolding Larry’s journey, allowing us to follow closely in moments that unsettle, such as the apartment confrontation that exposes harm and accountability, and a forest camp where a routine rebuilds a semblance of dignity, however temporary. Larry is a flawed protagonist that you cannot help but root for. His measured redemption appears through small acts: giving food, attempting to make restitution for thefts, and choosing repair over denial.

I think where Ravel shines brightest is in the settings and landscapes that immerse us in tactile, textured spaces. I actually quite liked being with Larry in his hand-built shelter, where the tiniest luxuries of washed clothes and cooked meals define a completely new view of survival. Overall, this well-written story is grounded in an America that few experience and is absolutely worth the time commitment. Very highly recommended.


ABOUT PAVANE RAVEL

Pavane Ravel is the author of her introductory novel series, “The Other Shoes of Larry Martin.” Book one, “Revelation of Lies,” was re-released in March 2026 and is available for purchase on her official website, Amazon, B&N, online, and many online bookstores.

Ravel has always wanted to be a full-time writer and finally has reached the point in life where that dream is a reality. Pavane traveled extensively over the years and has seen nearly the entire United States, much of Canada, Europe, and parts of Central America. Pavane also studied political science and journalism at universities in both the United States and Europe.

Pavane is now happily married with children; she enjoys discussing economics after working as a commodities broker. Pavane resides in NYC and spends time concentrating on both her family and her writing.

This book was an important story to tell for Pavane, as Larry Martin is such a complex and fascinating character. Pavane enjoys humor and loves engaging and connecting with readers.
