Time To Put “OM” Blogger Jason Cushman In The “Hot Seat!”

Hey, look! “It’s a bird, it’s a Plane! NO, It’s SUPER JASON!!

.
Yes, this Cape Crusader is one of the most “Popular WordPress bloggers I know. So, I thought it was high time to put Jason Cushman of ‘The Opinionated Man’ ON THE HOT SEAT!

.

.

Now I know many bloggers, friends, and visitors may know Jason from his awesome blogs, over at  HarsH ReaLiTy | A Good Blog is Hard to Find ….

Sometimes I get confused, but at age 53 I am told that is due to hovering in “old age.” Jason has loads of happenings going on over on his blog with a gazillion names like OM, HarsH ReaLiTy, Opinionated Man, and, OH, A Good Blog Is Hard To Find? So I ask? Which The Hell is it Jason? LOL. LOL. So, I am hoping you will learn a wee bit more about this interesting man of mystery we all may not know! Let me start with a few “Hot Seat” questions I asked Jason . . . .

*Hot Seat Interview Questions*

Cat – I and many readers know you are a very popular blogger, what is something readers may not know about you?

Jason:
“I think new readers may not realize that I am not popular at all. I have simply taken the time to meet and associate with a lot of bloggers. That is how you form online relationships and a community of your own. Popularity is just a word, in reality. you only get back what you give.

Cat
 – How did you decide to start book promoting for authors? Do you enjoy reading books?
Jason: “I do enjoy reading books, but specific books and authors. I simply felt it was easy to offer some authors a little help through my platform and I do sometimes feel bad for those caught in the struggle to get noticed.”

Cat
 – Have you ever considered writing a book? If so, what genre or type would you write?

Jason:
“I’ve considered it. I have a few in mind, but the first book would probably be a memoir in format.”

Cat – Tell readers a little about yourself?

Jason:  “I was born in Pusan, South Korea and was left on a street when I was 3 years old. I was adopted and lived my early childhood in Jackson, Mississippi which was… interesting. I moved to Memphis, TN around the first grade and although similar in some ways, Memphis was very different in others. My adopted parents are white. My mom is a writer and my father is a doctor, I have an adopted sister who is Korean as well, and I have a white adopted brother. I am the middle child.

I grew up playing competitive soccer, golf, and gymnastics. I hate baseball so I guess I will never be “American.” Something about small hard objects being thrown at my face does not appeal to me. I was never tall enough when I was younger and did not get picked often to play basketball. They would say “we will takkkkkkeeee… Cindy!!!” “DAMMIT!!!

Growing up with all white friends and black school mates was a bummer because I was generally in the lower 25% in height and weight. A fact that was readily apparent in physical altercations, but I will say that I gave as good as I got. I grew up white which really is simply the truth. I didn’t even eat Asian food, and yes I say Asian here because I wasn’t Korean at the time.

I attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and quickly went from a good student to a below average student. Mainly because for some reason to do well in school you have to attend class, a concept that passed me by. I did not do well in college mostly because of anger at my birth mom, which I discovered in 2000. I still have not met her or talked to her and she has kept me from ever meeting my older sister, whom I didn’t know existed till 2000 as well. It took me 12 years to move past that. I still like soju, though… so at least I have a comforting companion.
I enjoy writing, poetry, history, animal shows, ESPN, a few regular shows, and I also LOVE Anthony Bourdain. (CNN ) If I could meet him I would, he has inspired me in many ways. I would also love to meet Robert Jordan, W.E.B. Griffin, and Raymond E. Feist, my three favorite authors. Unfortunately, I will have to wait a bit to meet Jordan, RIP we will always miss you, Robert. Your light still shines.

Currently, I work in information technology under the yoke of ‘Corporate Rule’ … but maybe one day I will be able to be a real writer. Right now I do not consider myself a writer at all, in fact, I would say I am an amateur pretending to be a writer. I will accept the title of blogger though, that I suppose I have earned. I enjoy scotch, 12 years or even older if I can afford it. Famous Grouse is my favorite brand because it is cheap, but if I could drink Macallen every day I would. Unfortunately, my Crohn’s keeps me from drinking too much of that, probably a good thing.

What else… this is beginning to sound pretty frivolous. I like to debate and I admire conviction and passion in anyone. I dislike people who throw facts around without basis, or that try to validate themselves by throwing up hypothetical statements. That to me is the most annoying thing ever. I guess I am more human than I thought.
I currently live in Colorado with my wife and two daughters. It snows here. I hate snow. Anyways, that is pretty much me.

HEY NOW! Look what I found! Jason DOES NOT LIKE Snow? Bet he didn’t SEE this one coming, Right Jason?

GOTTCHA JASON!!! LOL
.
Jason is such a good sport!. One last thing that is important I did ask Jason.

Cat – Where and how can readers and authors find what you offer with “Book Promotions” and how readers can find the books and author’s you promote?

Jason:
“I list my book promotion terms on my personal blog at https://aopinionatedman.com/book-promotion-terms/. I also show my current promoted books on my WordPress blog at https://aopinionatedman.wordpress.com/

YOU can also find Jason on social media too! On Facebook: Opinionated Man – -Opinionated Man Jason C. Cushman … – Facebook  And on Twitter: @SmokeNdust

.

So I thank Jason Cushman “WordPress Blogger Extraordinaire” for letting me put him on “Lyon Book Promotions Hot Seat” for a little while. I met Jason on WordPress years ago. He was actually a very nice blogger pal to me when I first started visiting his blog three years ago. Has really been that long? Wow. I took to his funny sense of sarcastic humor when some just “didn’t get it!” I love that he never holds back and shares just what he feels, and he shares a lot of his personal life through his blog like this post that touched my heart because I know how Jason felt:  Struggle To Feel “Accepted”  …

He knows I too suffer from a few mental health challenges myself and have also been in that complete “dark hopelessness” as he has. When he writes and shares about that part of his life, that truly is the “human side” of Jason. Not many can do that in an open forum like he and I both do on our blogs. So when I need a pick me up, all I do is go to Jason’s blog and find something there that takes me out of “myself” to me feel better!

So know this Mr. OM,  ….  my best-est “Cape Crusader”? Thanks for being such a great friend. Thanks for doing a ‘Fantabulous Job’ in your new venture of promoting my book and many authors I am sure “Thank You” for giving them a new book promotion platform for their books so readers find them. You really are appreciated in the “Blogging Community!!!”  XOXO

Now Orlando? Action On Gun Laws Needed NOW!

Here we go again! Another mass shooting in Orlando and again, NO GUN CONTROL LAWS passed. Here is my rage I posted on Facebook when I heard  on CNN another shooting has happened in Orlando, FL.

MY FACEBOOK POST:

“My thoughts and prayers to the families and those passed and wounded in another senseless shooting in Orlando, FL. … I posted this on my Author FB page first thing this morning. My heart goes out to those still looking for their loved that were inside the nightclub until all victims are accounted for” ….

OK, when is enough going to be enough? Was The San Bernardino Shooting a “Wake Up Call” that shootings will not stop unless we begin to change, add or enforce the “Gun Control Laws” in this Country?

How passing a bill to close the F _ _ KING loop-holes at “Gun Trade Shows and Internet Sales?”

NRA’ers you can complain all you want that any bill passed will take away your guns?

Bullshit!

I am getting really TIRED of That EXCUSE!!

It is called “Gun CONTROL” PEOPLE, not “GUN Take Away” … I’m sure any of those who think just because a bill is passed we are trying to take your guns away when deep down YOU know that is not the case!

I am pretty Damn SURE ONE of the 50 people in this nightmare was YOUR wife, husband, son, daughter or someone you love was KILLED, your opinion about “Gun Control” would change real fast.

We can not afford more “DEAD BODIES OR MORE CARNAGE LIKE THIS!!!”
PASS GUN CONTROL LAWS NOW!!!  It is time!

A gunman wielding an assault-type rifle and a handgun opened fire inside a crowded Florida nightclub early Sunday, killing at least 50 people before dying in a gunfight with SWAT officers, police said. It was the worst mass shooting in American history.…

OF Course, there were some comments left. But, it was interesting how it was kept civil and we all were able to agree to disagree on our feelings without Nastiness or HATE.
It was just a very Healthy Debate.

COMMENTS:

Christine Campbell so awful…..how much warning do we need

Catherine Townsend-Lyon Author I Know!!! And I am SO tired of the gun owners saying they are afraid that if any gun control laws are passed that it will mean the government will take away guns when they KNOW that is not going to happen! Tired of The NRA scaring people into thinking that will happen when it won’t!

Trey Clarke There has never been a gun involved crime where the gun acted alone. There is always a “person” behind it. Although, it is far easier to “control” or take away, or “gun grab” the weapon than it is to predict the “criminal” intent of a person or the lunacy of the mentally impaired soul.

I am a member of the NRA. I was raised around gun-toting rednecks and not once did any of us killed one person or a large number of them.
Nor did our guns act of their own accord.
Guns can be controlled. People can’t, to an extent. It is a slippery slope. But, I agree; there is a need for some RATIONAL control.
But, remember this….
If a madman wants to kill, he WILL.

Catherine Townsend-Lyon Author Well, I agree but Let’s Just see if “The Mad Man” has Mental illness of some kind and HE should not be able to have a gun to do this Carnage … That’s the whole Point ….

Trey Clarke
Trey Clarke Oh yes. He was definitely mad.
RELIGION.
And no, he shouldn’t have had access to a gun.
Problem is, he was an American citizen by birth. He “enjoyed” the same rights as all citizens. The problem is he was “radicalized” and appears from early reports that he was a little cracked.
Mark my words, Cat… Catherine Townsend-Lyon Author.
1) There will be an increase in troop involvement in the middle east.
2) There will be escalation of huge proportions in air raids to the extent where the welfare of non-combatants will no longer be a concern.
3) There will be a be a more insistent call for Muslim registration. (circa WWII)
4) Internment
Watch and see

Catherine Townsend-Lyon Author Look, I too was raised around guns as a teen, my brother-in-law was Military Police and a County Sheriff in So. Cal. and he and I would go target shooting out in the country. And, he was a member of the NRA.

But he understood the other side of things

Catherine Townsend-Lyon Author Isn’t it awesome that we all can have this discussion, and maybe agree to disagree on some points without any hate speech or some feeling it is their way or NO Way???

It’s the HEARTS of the people. Controlling guns will not fix the problem. Evil is in the hearts of these people. They will find another way!

Catherine Townsend-Lyon Author YES, they may find another way, but if we have laws it makes it Harder for it to be “The Way of a GUN.”

Catherine Townsend-Lyon Author RIGHT??? Makes no sense.

Michelle Redmon
Michelle Redmon You can go door to door collect every gun. People will find a way to hurt others. They can go to their local feed store etc, pick up fertilizer or some other chemical and make a bomb like they did in Oklahoma City and do way more destruction. Evil will always be with us. Look out for one another. Don’t be afraid to report suspicious activity. Protect your neighbors, your fellow-man!

Catherine Townsend-Lyon Author AMEN Michelle! You are correct. When people have Hate in their Hearts, they will and can find another was to hurt others. I do feel, and I am not a religion nut, all need to read The Book of Revelations in the Bible …. it does say how our world and society will change and become full of evil … I feel it is coming to pass. Very Sad ..

Michelle Redmon Catherine Townsend-Lyon Author we need each other to love but to be wary of our surroundings. Our country is dividing instead of coming together like a neighborhood watch.

Catherine Townsend-Lyon Author Very true. But it seems NO one wants to get involved these days. Very sad. You see it on the news all the time when a shooting happens and police and investigators go door to door asking if they seen anything, they are fearful to come forward. People need to be aware of what is going on and Report It …

SEE, people can have passion about how they feel and not have to rude or full of hate to carry on a healthy conversation. We were all made different for a reason, but we can all agree to disagree in kind friendly manner. Now I want to share below a post made, and also what I had seen on the news about someone who was looking for a person, who ended up one of the victims that died and the last communication he had with his mom. It so heartbreaking!!!

“A young man who is now confirmed dead sent this text to his mum from inside the club:

“Mommy I love you”

“I’m in club they are shooting.”

She shared the text message exchange with the Associated Press, in which her son told her that he was trapped in the bathroom at Pulse, and asked her to call the police. The 9-1-1 dispatcher had her stay on the line.

At 2:39 a.m., the most devastating texts began to come:
“Call them mommy / Now. / He’s coming / I’m gonna die”…

#              #              #                    #                  #

“So what are your thoughts and feelings about this tragedy? How do you think we can make changes be it Gun Control Laws or other means to hopefully stop these tragic shootings and events from happening so often? Is this just the society we live in these days? Can we ever have Harmony and Peace in our World? I scratch my head and think? How as people did we get to this point in our society? Can we ever go back to the “Good Ole Days ?”

“With the internet and tech explosion, I really don’t think so. Is this more of a religious thing? Like the writings in The Bible of The Book of Revelations and the last days on earth? I don’t have a clue, but many things in the last few decades seems to be happening. Just my opinion and how I see our world. Share your thoughts” …

#            #             #                 #                #                #

“My Thoughts, Prayers, and Sympathies to the families who lost a loved one in this tragic shooting. And to those hurt as well a speedy recovery. No words can ever take the place of what you went through in that night club. Just know YOU ARE NOT ALONE”  ….

Fox Orlando Shooting ….

Prayers to the victims accounted for so far ….

My Three Years Blogging On WordPress? FABULOUS!

HELLO RECOVERY FRIENDS AND WELCOME ALL!

.

065.JPG

Happy Anniversary Catherine on WordPress.com!!!

You registered on WordPress.com 3 years ago. Thanks for flying with us.
Keep up the good blogging.

3 Year Anniversary Achievement
.

So, it has been 3 years ago today that I started this little thing called “Blogging.”

All I wanted to do was continue my recovery journey with others who may be suffering from gambling addiction like had. It was my way of sharing and continuing my recovery journey from my book titled,  “Addicted To Dimes, Confessions of a Liar and a Cheat.”

It was MY way to advocate, raise awareness, and inform the public about the dangers and devastation of this addiction, of this cunning disease. But when I started out I had no idea how others would take my blog about gambling addiction. There were very few blogs here on WordPress about addiction and recovery that I could find, and I was scared if people would “judge me?” I figured, “what the hell,” my whole life is out in the world in book form, so I had no secrets anymore.
.
recovery pic
.

I felt it deep within my heart and my faith that it was the right thing to do. To blog and advocate about this awful addiction and see what kind of feedback I would get. I can honestly say, everyone in the past three years that have come followed my blog here and left comments have been mostly Spectacular! The WordPress community embraced me with open arms, open hearts, and understanding. So, what more could I ask for?

Well, I will tell you. Currently, my recovery community is at 7,414 followers and my visitor count as of today is 34,964 Visits! SO, in the words of “Sally Fields at The Oscars? They Love Me! They really, really love me!!” LOL …

Now, of course, I am NOT that vain, but I feel that my recovery blog here on WordPress is an important blog. Again, there are many recovery blogs here on WP, but very few are about Recovery from Gambling Addiction …

As the first year or so went on, I finally also opened up and shared here on my WordPress blog about my mental health challenges as I am “dual diagnosed,”  meaning I live in recovery from addiction and battle mental health challenges. I was getting tired of reading about how STIGMA was hurting and holding back many from seeking treatment for mental health issues. Not to mention all the news reports of mass shootings that were happening all over the US. So I decided to step out of the shadows of shame for having mental/emotional disorders and challenges. And again? My WordPress community embraced me once more.

.

.
Again, I wanted full disclosure as to my mental health so I could advocate that there is no shame in being diagnosed with mental health illness. Be it mental or medical, it is time for those who don’t suffer have more empathy and understanding of what is like living with mental and emotional disorders. It can for many be very debilitating and painful.

So we don’t need to add more in the mix by having to include shame, embarrassment, or stigma, to make those who suffer feel worse. I always say, “kindness is a choice” and takes much less energy than HATE. Because sadly, those who don’t understand or even want to, and there are many, need to back off  ….

So many recovery blessings have happened here while I have been blogging here on WordPress! After my book released, so many awesome things have come. Too many to list, but a few are:

.

.

Now year two here on WordPress was a growth year as I took on the world by storm with a new venture into  Lyon Book & Social Media Promotions here on WordPress!

.

“Sharing The Magic Of Written Words Within Your Books!”

.

And what a year it was! My little online bookstore and promotions business keep growing and growing. I now have over 17 authors I book promote for and more on the way! So drop by my book promo blog here on WP above and come meet your new book!

I offer a little something different from other book promotions. I enjoy helping and teaching authors how and where they need to promote their fabulous books. I do all the social media legwork for them by setting up authors social media accounts, add their books to many free book sites for exposure to large readerships.

We also have loads of good things for readers too like books reviews, excellent new book releases, and author spotlights so readers learn more about our fine authors I promote. Let’s face it, many of us brand new authors are not always computer savvy, and navigating the inner works of social media sites to sign up maybe intimating to some authors  …

So I do that and much more for affordable pricing that won’t “break the bank.”
And WordPress gave me everything I needed to get my new book promotions blog up and going by using all the free services they have here. So I would never host my blogs anywhere else!

So I will wrap up this WordPress Celebratory Anniversary post by saying a very Big Thank You to WordPress and to all my WP friends, family, followers, and all new visitors!!
Thank you for making my 3 years here on WordPress Special …
