Although I think I went over my allotted 50 letter backend keyword slots for the one line review, Amazon Keywords for Books: How to Use Keywords for Better Discovery on Amazon – is a great all-in-one guide to help you navigate Amazon’s maze of metadata.

It sounds like weird science, because it is. But Dale takes you through it all, one step at a time, and does it in an informative, detailed way. As a self-published author, I’ve been using and studying keywords for several years now, somewhat thinking I knew most tricks of the trade, but even I picked up some great tidbits!

As you go through the book, if you are anything like me, you will have to stop in some chapters and take notes because there is a lot of significant information you don’t want to miss. Don’t worry though, the book is filled with all kinds of useful links, hints, tips and tricks, that will definitely point you in the right direction with your books.

I like how the book is organized, and how Dale weaves in anecdotes and his own experience to help explain some dryer content. It helps to clarify the message and gives the read an overall less robotic feel. But in reality, trying to understand, and decipher Amazon’s unique method of algorithm manipulation, one would have to dive into a bit of the tediousness of the ones and zeros of search engine optimization.

The best part of the book for me was the inclusion of some of the finer marketing points that seem like common sense, but ultimately, some of us so busy with the craft of creating, sadly forget. Scribbling some ideas down, I set my sights on my own books, giving them a metadata checkup and used the new techniques I learned to boost them up. Time will tell!

Whether you are looking to write a more discoverable description, or stumbling on how to populate the seven backend keyword slots, heck, even trying to create a profitable AMS ad campaign, this book is a great resource to help guide you on your way to sell more books. And let’s be honest, that is what we all want to do!

Author Maxwell Ivey Jr. describes his book, The Blind Blogger’s First Speaking and Signing Adventures, as “part memoir/part self-help” and the two genres are inextricably entwined. Max takes us along on his journey from Texas to New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, South Carolina, and Florida, sharing his successes, his troubles, and his life lessons along the way. The book is structured somewhat chronologically, although there are occasional re-routes to examine a back story along the way.

Most of the 32 chapters are a quick read and each includes priceless “key takeaways” at the end. While the storyteller may be unsighted, he has a keen vision for extracting opportunities to learn and grow from his experiences, and we are the beneficiaries. In his last chapter, he gathers all 95 inspirational key takeaways as a handy reminder for readers that they, too, can overcome obstacles and achieve more than they may have thought themselves capable of doing.

Right from the first page of chapter one, it was clear to me that Max Ivey could sense authors’ insecurities and wanted to help us erase them. He’s been there, done that. Through honest and sometimes humorous anecdotes, we learn about how the blind author plans for success, solves problems and gets things done. Relax Whenever You Can, Be Spontaneous, Appreciate Our Differences, Take Care of Each Other, Self Care, No Regrets, and Be Curious are especially true and, I presume, all dog owners and lovers will be reminded of their canine friends and can easily relate to these first six chapters. The rest of the topics take their cue from the law of attraction with the writer sharing some of her experiences, both painful and joyous.

Maureen Scanlon is a certified life and spiritual coach and dynamic professional speaker as her book exhort’s readers to emulate these loyal and carefree creatures that have been important parts of many people’s lives in more ways than one. One of the things that make this book intriguing is that we don’t only get to know her dogs Jade and Brodie but the feeling that they are hugely instrumental in the production of this inspirational work, thus they are co-authors of this book.

About Rusty Blackwood:

Romantic fiction author Rusty Blackwood, who chose her plume de nom by combining the colour of her russet hair with her husband’s great, great, Scottish grandmother’s maiden name, was born in St.Thomas, Ontario, Canada on October 5th, and grew up on her paternal grandfather’s farm in the County of Elgin, located in the south-western portion of the province of Ontario.

She acquired her love of literature while still in elementary school where she entered her original compositions into county fairs, school contests, and whatever venue allowed participants in the writing field. She has carried that love ever since and has put it to use many times since becoming a professional writer in 2001.

From the time of youth she has loved the Arts in their many unique forms and is a graduate with honors in Interior Decorating & Design. She spent many years on the south-western Ontario stage performing with her family’s country music band: The Midnight Ramblers, followed by the country – rock – blues band: ‘MIRAGE’ as an accomplished vocalist, bassist, and rhythm guitarist. She now resides in the cultural city of St. Catharines, Ontario.
