About The Author:
A.R. Tirant
.
Rosie Tirant-Longhurst, aka A.R. Tirant, was born in the Seychelles in November 1958, the daughter of a policeman and the eldest in a family of four brothers and four sisters. She grew up on the northern coast of Mahe island, in the tiny seaside village of Beau-Vallon. Her working life started in 1975 as a nurse at Mahe’s Victoria Hospital, followed thereafter by a career in the Hotel Industry. She emigrated to England in 1995 and now lives in West Sussex with her husband. She has two grown-up sons and a granddaughter.

Rosie wasn’t born with a pen in her hand, far from it. Life growing up was hard and strict. The home comforts we all now take for granted were but a dream for the young girl whose days were divided between household chores, cooking, cleaning and looking after her young siblings. Water for all the household use had to be carried from a stream, with one hand holding a pail on her head, and the other keeping a second pail from spilling.

Education only happened because it was the one way of getting some rest during the daytime, even if the chores still had to be done by the light of a coconut oil lamp. They were difficult times… times when she would lean against the pillar of the outdoor kitchen waiting for dinner to cook in the large black pots, staring at the tropical skies and marvelling at the diamond beauty of the scattering of stars above, and all the while wishing for a different life…

‘Echoes from the Oasis’ is her debut novel which will be followed by other titles in the same series.

There is a “Read & Review Contest” along with this Fabulous Giveaway! If you were lucky enough to be readers who grab a free e-book download of this wonderful novel? Please do a review for A.R. Tirant and then go to my “Reader Contest Page and Enter to Win 1 of 3 Prizes! The e-book free giveaway ends  tonight at midnight! The review contest is Jan 7th thru Jan 30th 2015. . .

Happy Reading!

A Special Blog Review ~ Mom’s Choice Award Winning Book Titled “Failing At Fatherhood” By, Jack Barr.

.
Failing at Fatherhood: A book for the imperfect father
.
MY BOOK REVIEW FOR MOM’S CHOICE AWARD WINNING BOOK:

My breath was taken away many times while reading Author, Jack Barr’s book titled: Failing at Fatherhood, A book for the Imperfect Father.
While reading this book, it took me back to 2011 when I was writing my own now published book. It was a way for me to heal, inform, and raise awareness of what I felt I had failed in life with addiction. Jack to has done a similar thing here in his own fantastic book about his reaction to the news about his beautiful daughter Marley.

It is a raw, honest, and open look at one man’s faults when learning that his 3 day old ‘Marley’ has Down Syndrome, and how he reacts to this news. Even those with a strong “faith” can be rocked by such news.
We then tend to feel and think it was our fault some how that this has happened to “my child”.
Jack’s book shows us all as the human people that we are. We are not perfect by any means, we do at times react before we think things through, and we are a work in progress for a lifetime.

His open heart, spilling out all his faults is a very brave thing to do, even in our society when men are taught or raised to be strong, not to show feelings or emotions. Jack is like any other man.
My heart hurt many times of his deep sharing, and raw account of his story. Like one reader mentioned in their review, this book will take your on an in-depth emotional journey. And that is how I felt when done reading this well written book. I enjoyed his writing style, and like I did, take the reader on a journey.

And you could read the rawness when he wrote of Marley. She is now a vibrant, sweet little 3 1/2-year-old darling that you will also fall in love with!! If she doesn’t to it by her photo on the front cover of the book?
Reading more about her in Jack’s book will!

Jack has done an exceptional job at Raising Awareness of Down Syndrome with his first book. I hope he continues Marley’s story, and the families in future books. It truly is worth the time to read. And why I give it a 5 Star * * * * * Review.
.
About The Book:

Winner of a Mom’s Choice Book Award”

“Why do I fear her so much? Marley is my own flesh and blood, yet I lie here silently as a new father wondering if I will be here in the morning.”

When Jack Barr and his wife, Jana, had their first child, they were overcome with joy and excitement. Three days later, as they prepared to leave the hospital, two doctors entered their room debating whether newborn baby Marley, had Down syndrome. Mixed in with the confusion of whether or not their daughter was chromosomally different, Jack and Jana knew their lives would be changed forever.

Failing at Fatherhood embraces Jack’s honest struggles as a father, after receiving his child’s diagnosis of Down syndrome three weeks after her birth. He excavates the past, examines the present, and explores his future life in a sincere attempt to understand his personal failures as a father during his first year of parenthood. Throughout the book, Jack wrestles with the decision of divorce, suicide, and the existence of God. However, with His ultimate direction, Jack is able to understand the significance of fathers being committed to their children.

About The Author & Family:

Three years ago, Jack and Jana did not know God would use their daughter Marley, to forever alter their life plan. Marley was born with Down syndrome and that event sent Jack crashing into a sea of depression.
.
“I could not overcome the question of, Why us God”?
.
Since that day, Jack and Jana have rerouted their plan to align with God’s plan. They started, If They Had A Voice, an awareness campaign that focuses on Down syndrome abortions. Their story has been featured on CNN, CNN Mexico, Life Action News, and The Insight Channel. Jack has also released his first book, Failing at Fatherhood, which has been endorsed by Bob Russell, S.A. Bodeen, and Woodroll Kroll. Jack & Jana had a simple plan for their future, but God has forced them to trust in HIS plan. . .

Jack, Jana, and Marley Barr live in Bangkok, Thailand.
.
They have a wonderful website to share Marley, Jack and Jana’s happenings, raise awareness about Down Syndrome, just as Jack is doing with his fantastic book, and More! His book also became a “Mom’s Choice Adult Book Award Winner” just this month, so take a visit to: If They Had A Voice here: http://iftheyhadavoice.org/
.

Now they have a voice!

“When my daughter was born, I told my wife I did not want her. I spent an entire year depressed because I believed everything society told me about having a daughter with Down syndrome. Now she is the joy of my life. She is not a monster, she is not ugly, she is not retarded, and she is not a burden on our family. She is a beautiful little girl that brings joy to our daily lives. I understand the fear of having a child that is different, so I want to encourage you to consider taking the road less traveled, and see the beautiful things a child with Down syndrome can show you.”  Award Winning Author – Jack Barr .  . .
.
Another Fabulous Author Interview By Andi Cumbo:
Here is a bit of the interview . ..
Write to Serve Others – A Writers Write Interview with Jack Barr

“If you have ever struggled with the path your life has taken, if you love someone who has Down Syndrome, if you doubt the reasons you life has come the way it has, I think you’ll appreciate the words of Jack Barr” . . .
.
1. Tell me about your latest project.I have recently written my first book, Failing at Fatherhood.  It was released this past November.  A publisher contacted me about two years ago after he read my article about our family on CNN.  He encouraged me to write a book and share my story with a broader community. That led me to writing Failing at Fatherhood.

2. What role, if any, did books, writing, and reading play in your childhood?

I was not an avid reader growing up.  My parents encouraged me to read, but I was more interested in outside activities.  After I became a Christian in college, reading became more important to me.  One author that encouraged me in my journey was Tony Campolo.  His book, Carpe Diem, opened my eyes to our calling as Christians and the needs of others around us.

3. What is your writing practice, your writing routine?

Since I have finished my book, I occasionally blog.  Usually I blog when something in the news or my life strikes me as an interesting story to share with others.  Recently I wrote about Brittany Maynard and Lauren Hill.  I shared my own thoughts about their stories and my personal experience of watching my father die of cancer when I was eighteen years old.

4. Who are you reading now?

I have three authors that I follow on a regular basis: Michael Connelly, John Gresham, & Ken Follett.  I enjoy “getting lost” in their stories and taking a break from my other responsibilities.  I also read various Christian authors when I find a topic interesting to me.  Right now I am working through a devotional book entitled, Conversations, by Brian Rice. . . .

*Now for the rest of this wonderful interview by, Andi Cumbo? Please visit her fabulous ‘writers website http://t.co/xz909i0u6M the rest of Jack’s interview is really interesting.*

I hope you enjoyed my new review for Author, Jack Barr, and make sure you connect with The Barr Family and see how they are helping many parents and families who also have children with Down Syndrome, and sharing Hope with them!

Her is more about her new book just released and available on Amazon/Books in both Paperback & E-book too!

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Seven-year-old Marilee and her younger siblings, Bo and Janie, sit waiting on the front steps of their house wondering if their mama will ever come back. Just as the abandonedMarilee gives up, she sees Granmama running up the road, coming to their rescue.  This begins the adventures and misadventures of learning to grow up on a farm in the hill country. Marilee narrates her story many years later with memories of happy times when they laughed over berry pancakes drenched in syrup from Mr. Lewis’ bee farm, or listened to Granpapa’s funny stories, or reminiscing about the secret hidden in her prom dress.  She remembers chasing renegade chickens all over her grandparents’ massive property,  and how she snickered at what she heard on Granmama’s sewing days. She relives the sad times when the family cried together and clung to each other through each painful challenge.  All those times made up a life, a lifeMarilee holds deep in her heart forever.

This is a story spanning the Great Depression years, two wars that changed their little town, and the years beyond. Each chapter is a new adventure for this resilient family. Characters are unique in their own way, but with a connection that bonds them together with a strength that can’t be broken, while their southern dialect reflects a heritage grown deep in generations before them.  This is Marilee’s story.  One to be remembered always. . .

We happened to meet through a few social media sites we both visit, and we are in a couple of the same writer groups on LinkedIn, a professional networking site. I reached out to her because when I read more about her, I said to myself, “I must have her on my book/media blog” as a ‘Special Guest Author Spotlight’ …
I just had to share her with all of you, my friends and readers here. I have no idea how she finds the time, but this woman is into loads of projects, writing and authoring books, as she is everywhere on social media. WHY?
Because she is such a prolific, fantastic mystery writer and author, that’s why!
Starting with her first published book, “The Garden of Souls” …

About Garden Of Souls:

During a routine archaeological excavation in Israel, two archaeologists, a priest and his best friend, uncover an unusual map that leads to the Biblical burial cave of Abraham and Sarah. While on their expedition to find the cave, antiquity thieves learn of their quest and relentlessly pursue the archaeologists, hoping to sell the famous bones on the black market for millions, maybe more. The thieves, who are willing to risk murder to secure the theft, are limited only by a determined FBI Agent, who is willing to risk his life to protect the archaeologists, and a young woman, who is being used by the thieves to gain information about their quest. What they all find in the cave is well beyond the historical and biblical discovery of the bodies. What they find changes their lives and the lives of all mankind, forever.

Chéri Vausé has been a teacher of Theology for over twenty years, and has used the Catholic Ladder, a biblical timeline developed by the Jesuit missionary priests to convert the American Indian, as the structure for her three-pronged approach to Christian theology. This three-pronged approach is based on the Talmud, the Kabbala, and the Scriptures, especially the Torah.

About Her New Book:

Special Agent in Charge, Grantham “Grant” Greene has become disillusioned with his role in the FBI. He’s charged with leading the hunt for a bomber, targeting Women’s clinics in Oregon and Washington. With pressures from his boss and his ambitious father, Grant becomes even more discouraged as he works his way through the mire of evidence. His discovery of the actions of a beautiful woman, who has supposedly committed suicide, leads him to believe that, along-side the bombings, he may also be investigating a murder. With the potential for a nationwide political scandal, Grant has just one weekend to uncover the identity of the bomber. As he delves deeper, and tragedy strikes, Grant starts to question his views and wonder if it’s possible to fall in love with someone you’ve never even met.

A classic cozy mystery that is both a thriller and a suspense novel with a touch of romance. To make it even more interesting objects become characters, add drama, and romance, and even the art tells a story…
.

About The Author and Message From Cheri Vause:

“There is a mystery in the heart of everyone, and everything. That is what makes life so interesting. This wonderful, immutable mystery is the basis of every good story, and the element that every writer tries to tap, then, liberally pour into their work. If the author is successful, then the reader will reach for another book, and another, and…

Some writers want to gather the sparks of creation and heal the world. If I am able to gather only one spark, then my life has been successful”.

Author of the explosive and controversial novel, “The Truth and Nothing but Lies”, and the new upcoming mystery, “The Night Shadow”…

Chéri is a theologian, a photographer, and an author. She is the mother of two sets of twins born on the same day fourteen years apart. Presently, she lives on a small ranch in the heart of Texas with her husband and a coy-dog named Scully. – See more at: http://www.gwlpublishing.co.uk/cheri-vause/#sthash.PCdp221n.dpuf
Now you all know that I only ask TWO questions of all my ‘Guest Authors’, and my friend Cheri will be no different. Here are her two questions and how she replied.

1.) How did you begin your passion for writing?

I began writing theological pieces for a Human Life newsletter, and I also wrote a few newspaper pieces. Before that I wrote poetry, not for publication, but just for myself. I did have a poetry reading in college once, but I preferred to keep my thoughts to myself.

It wasn’t until I came across this fascinating story in the Talmud, which is a compilation of scriptural commentaries by great Jewish sages, that I became interested in writing a book. My husband encouraged me to try and get it published, so I began the arduous task of sending out queries to agents. It was rejected dozens of times, and then I rewrote it, based on the comments by agents who took the time to help me. I think I rewrote that book about four times and then published it myself. I only sold a few copies, but I was hooked. I honed my skills further by writing dozens of short stories and sparked the interest of several traditional publishers. Now, I’m with a wonderful independent publishing house based in the United Kingdom. My second book with them is coming out in September, and my third in February.

2.) Has there been anyone special event that was exciting to you about being a writer & author?

I couldn’t say that there was a specific event, but I would say that I’ve met the best people on the planet since I’ve been published. I’ve managed to help several authors, maybe one to be traditionally published from being a self-published one and going nowhere, I’ve made contacts with two wonderful screenplay writers, and I have been blessed with people in my town willing to help me launch my books. I feel blessed.
—-
Now in closing, we all know how important reviews are for us writers and authors. And they can tell a lot about a book. Here are a couple Amazon reviews Cheri Vause’s books have received so far.
.

Review Of “The Garden of Souls” & “The Truth and Nothing but Lies”

This review is from: THE GARDEN OF SOULS (Kindle Edition)

This is one of those books that is extremely difficult to put down. Imagine for a moment what archaeological discovery would prove the Bible to be accurate beyond refute. Add in a Priest, an archaeologist, and a young woman who may or may not be involved with a Russian Cartel who profits in stolen antiquities who are searching for the same answers and assurances we all crave, and you have an epic story that leaves you begging for more from the unusual trio. Toss in Interpol, the Ministerial Committee for Holy Places, the Vatican, and the Israeli Antiquities Authority and you have the ingredients for an epic that will survive the generations. The author has built a modern mystery based on an incredible base of research that will keep you engaged from beginning to end.

I would love to see this as a movie. The author brings the settings and characters alive (positive and negative character traits). “And the truth shall set you free.”

Fans of Angels & Demons and Raiders of the Lost Ark will enjoy this!  5 Stars!

.
This review is from: The Truth and Nothing but Lies (Kindle Edition)

The Truth and Nothing but Lies by CheriVause is a well-crafted suspense/thriller following the exploits of FBI agent Grant Greene. A bombing of a women’s clinic in the sleepy town of Astoria, Oregon results in his father, Governor Porter Greene, pulling strings to get Grant assigned to the high-profile case.CBN reporter Hector Rodriguez is also drawn into the case as famed abortion Dr.Sanji Kumar is suspected of being the target of pro-life activists. Grant’s interview of Miriam Elliot provides him an angle in investigating Kumar, who has had connections with the CIA in his earlier life as a double agent. What appeared to be a career-enhancing case for Grant becomes a perilous voyage into a storm of conspiracy and murder in Vause’s fast-paced tale.
.
The discussion of pro-choice alternatives provides the moral essence of the plot. Kumar’s moral values appear to depreciate as both the direction of his life, and his personal choices create greater dissonance in remaining true to his Hippocratic oath. We see how his decision to defect to the CIA has already compromised his sense of loyalty. Committing himself to perform abortions places him on yet another cutting edge as he is faced with the monumental debate between pro and anti-abortion activists. Though far from a tragic figure, we can see how medical professionals can be impacted by life choices in straying from a path that we as a society see as both righteous and unimpeachable.
.
For suspense/thriller fans and all readers that enjoy a cerebral mystery (with no sexploitation or foul language), The Truth and Nothing but Lies by Cheri Vause is a worthy addition to your collection.  5 Stars!

.
I’d Like to thank my friend & Author, Cheri Vause for allowing me to share here books, and a little more about her with all of you. If you don’t have a current read right now, I SO recommend both her books as fabulous reads! It’s nice to know before purchasing a book if it’s worth your time and money to read. Now your know hers are well worth it. Eugenea and I met through the social media site LinkedIn, and I went to explore her wonderful website at: http://www.eugeneacouture.com
After I read more about her and her book, I said to myself, “I have to invite her to be a ‘Special Guest Author’ on my blog, and to shine a light on her ‘Passion’ about adoption, the foster care system, and her longing to find lost family. I can relate to her story, as my best friend Debbie, who I grew up with was also adopted. When she got older, she too wanted to find her birth mother, but got nowhere. I can not imagine having that longing and never being able to find who your birth mom.
Here is a little more about Eugenea Couture, and her book that I can not wait to order and read myself.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Eugenea Couture is a mother of four and a native of Vancouver, B.C. Canada. At age four, she was forced into the foster care system in southern Alberta. Her story is a powerful journey that takes the reader through a cycle of four generations. Beginning with her great grandmother, a Metis woman, who endures the pain of her daughter losing the custodial rights of her children. This begins a cycle as her grandchildren and great grandchildren become adults. Eugenea is in the third generation and faces a life of foster care that ultimately causes her to suffer sexual, physical, mental abuse and an identity crisis as she moved eleven times.

As an adult, she moved back to the west coast where she settled down to raise her children and reunite with her biological family so they could mend their broken relationships. While Eugenea is raising her four children she is determined to never lose her kids as her mother and grandmother had done in the past.

Her search for her adoptive brother becomes her greatest quest. During the forty years of separation from her brother, she builds up an inner strength by unlocking the secrets of her past, understanding the generational patterns of guilt and shame, and developing her own techniques to restore the bonds of her fragmented family.

As a writer, advocate, and mother, she is passionate about sharing her story of pain, and joy. It is her gift to give back hope, compassion, and light to a dark path. She reveals the signs of abuse and prepares our youth of today to stand for their rights especially if they are at the mercy of strangers. She has written her memoirs to help children, teens and young moms that are seeking direction. In narrating her incredible personal journey, Eugenea shares many positive tools for others to locate and reunite their family members, even when all hope seems lost.

Adoption Not An Option
Adoption Not An Option

“As a young girl growing up in the foster care system, Eugenea burns with desire to reclaim her identity by finding the family she has lost. As a mother of four, she becomes determined never to lose her own children as her mother and grandmother had before her. In her teenage years she began to brainstorm for ways to bring her family back together. Her optimism and determination empower Eugenea to fight all odds in order for her to end the 40 year battle and reunite her family.”

Here is what others are talking about of Eugenea and her book:

“Eugenea reveals her childhood journey in foster care. During her crusade, she moves from home to home but is determined to find her long-lost family members. As a mother of four, Eugenea has an enormous will to safeguard her children and find her roots. Her story provides a window into the emotional odyssey to reunite with the family that she loved so long ago. She looks back at her family’s tumultuous path through the generations, and shows how to move through the mistakes of the past towards a positive future.”

Don Kendall, Group Publisher, Black Press

“Love,  strength, and  the bonds  of  family, are  the  main  themes of  Eugenea’s moving story. This book takes an intimate look into how a broken family started putting the pieces back together; and shows others can do the same.”
Rolf Schrader, M.A., psychotherapists

“A powerful story about losing and finding your family, Eugenea takes us along her  journey  to  reunite  with  her  loved  ones  and  reclaim  her  identity:  An inspirational book for anyone looking for lost family members or simply looking
to reconnect with those already in their life.”
Kyle Green, Motivational Public Speaker for Mortgage Alliance
So what more can I say about my friend and fellow new author? I myself can not imagine going through all of what this woman has been through. We are a bit of ‘Kindred Spirits,’  as we both endured childhood trauma and abuse. I know she will continue to be a strong advocate for those who feel lost and alone.
So brave of her to share her personal story, as many others who go through adoption & the foster care systems as they lose their true families, but know they are not alone in this. That others like them, and like Eugenea can have a voice. She has done this through her book and her website & blog.
I urge you to visit her site at: http://www.eugeneacouture.com
You can connect with her through her Fabulous Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/eugeneacouture
On Twitter @EugeneaCouture ..
.
So I want to say, “Thank You Eugenea” for letting me share you with all of my friends, readers, & visitors, and I wish her much happiness and success with her new book. And as always, let her know you seen her Fabulous Guest Spotlight on Author, Cat Lyon’s media blog!

The Detective Cole Sullivan Series continues…

Detective Sullivan and his team in Maine, join forces with Detective Tweed and his team in Minnesota, when murders begin happening in both states with the same MO. Each murder victim has a chalk line drawn around their lifeless body.

People are being murdered. The police have very few clues and are running into dead ends trying solve the crimes.

The chalk lines appear messy and unsophisticated… until… it becomes clear that the chalk lines are not messy after all… they are messages. The police have to follow the clues and work fast to catch the killer before another victim dies.

Book 1 of the series it titled, Edge of Redemption

Edge of Redemption
Edge of Redemption
by Russell Warnberg

Finding the old man was a shock but nothing compared to the madness that was to follow.

An experienced detective in Augusta, Maine, Cole Sullivan begins investigating the death of a schoolmate’s father, Joe Winslow. But when suspicion is cast on Winslow’s children, John and Kate, Cole cannot protect John from the evidence stacking up against him. Soon the homicide investigation Sullivan leads becomes even more complicated when Kate’s husband is murdered and a rash of seemingly unrelated killings breaks out. Russell Warnberg’s novel offers readers a glimpse into the killer’s mind as he turns himself ever more fully over to evil. As Sullivan seeks to solve the mystery, his own position comes into danger as the state government works to resolve the case as soon as possible, even though that may leave the true killer free.

This review is from: The Chalk Line Killer (The Detective Cole Sullivan Series) (Volume 2) (Paperback)
This book has everything that may not fit the normal “structured pattern” of the thriller of the week. Yet, it adds so much more, with characters struggling to live, love and survive. Even though you haven’t an idea who the bad one(s) are, you find that they are also fully fleshed beings. You don’t want to meet them, but they are filled with motive and intrigue, as are the ones hunting them. Who is hunting whom? This has a wonderfully colorful landscape with imagination, cruelty and heart. It stands out because it is not the standard, often packaged bestsellers.

So, many of you know me as NOT  a “James Lipton” from “The Actors Studio”….LOL,  so I only ask 2 simple questions to all my ‘Guest Authors’,  as I don’t want them to feel any pressure when I share a little about their craft! So here are the 2 questions I asked of ‘Author, Russell Warnberg’ and how smoothly he answered them…

1.) Was there anything in particular that made you decide to become a novelist and writer?

I had wanted to write ever since my college days at the Univ. of Minnesota, but never had the self-discipline to follow through.  Oh, I wrote some poetry and a short novella years ago, but could never quite pull the trigger. It was just too hard to find the time to dedicate to it.  As I was about to retire, I was presented with a laptop computer and that made all the difference.  I had learned to type in high school and found I could still do it rather well.  It was the computer that made it possible for me to actually follow through with my dream.

The first day I had the computer on my lap, I wrote out the first paragraph of my first novel, not knowing at the time that that’s what it would be.  After reading it over a couple of times, I thought this might make for a good crime drama, so I dedicated myself to the task, wrote nearly every day and five months later, the rough draft was complete. The rest is history, as they say.

2.) Has there been anyone exciting thing that has happened to you since the releasing of your books you’d like to share?

I can’t say that there has been any thing that has excited me about the release of my novels.  Of course, it was a thrill to sign that first contract and then hold a copy of the finished novel in my hands, but aside from that it has been rather anti-climatic. The old saying about it being the journey that is the best part, rather than the destination, I have found to be largely true.
Maybe the best thing is that I have found a second career that can occupy me for the rest of my life, if I choose. Being able to get up each day and have something meaningful to do is the key. To have a lot of people read and enjoy my work would be the icing on the cake.

So I’d like to Thank Author, Russell Warnberg for letting me share his craft of writing and authoring books with all of you today. You can also connect with Russell on Twitter! @RussellWarnberg  and on his website here http://russellwarnberg.com
