“Congrats To My Dear Friend Author, Dustin L John On His First Book Release! “

Hello and Welcome Readers and Book Lovers,

.

test3

Just in time for the holidays, I welcome my dear friend and now first time Author, Dustin L. John and his book release of: “A Walk in his Shoes” . . .

Now if this is not exciting enough for my best recovery supporter of mine, but he also contributed some of his addiction and recovery story in another new book release with other authors along with Author, Jake D Parent…
It is titled; “Hearts and Scars: 10 Human Stories of Addiction” . . .

.

.About Hearts and Scars:
.
We lose more than 350 people every day in the United States to addiction. This collection of stories shows how the deadly disease is a conflicted struggle, not simply of broken people, but one that encompasses the human condition that affects us all.  The book consists of two sections. The first is a series of short fictional stories that portray individuals suffering from active addiction. The second is made up of real life tales of recovery, written by the people who experienced the journey themselves.
.
For those directly affected by this horrible affliction, these stories will help you make sense of your journey, both where you came from as well as where you are going. For advocates, policy makers, and others with the power to help, this collection will help humanize the issue. Because, while addiction may be a cunning, baffling disease, it is ultimately one that affects real people.

Only by understanding the humanity within those who suffer from it – as buried as it may sometimes seem to be – can we as a society find the courage and will to finally do what needs to be done to end the suffering.

We have known each other now for about 2 years. We met on social media and he did a very nice Book and Author Interview on his fantastic blog My Sober Life after my recovery book was released was released late Nov, 2012 ~ Here is more about Dustin.”

Dustin L John
.

About Dustin The Author:

Dustin John was born and raised in Gallup New Mexico. At age 11, he moved to a small town in Southern Utah. Leading a seemingly normal lifestyle after graduating high school, Dustin’s life took a turn for the worse. A short time after a divorce lead him to bankruptcy, his life began the slow dive into addiction.

By age 22, he was jobless, homeless, running from the law, and searching for his next shot of heroin. Travelling across the western states in search of a safe haven, Dustin landed himself directly in the midst of a massive underground drug ring. After a decade of playing on death’s doorstep, Dustin made a miraculous escape into sobriety. Dustin and his father, Dallas documented Dustin’s drug riddled history in a uniquely written, father/son memoir titled “A Walk in his Shoes”.

Dustin’s father Dallas, passed away from an aggressive illness just months before the book’s final manuscript was published. Dustin has been sober since February 1, 2012 and continues to help in the fight against addiction. He resides in Southern Utah with his wife and their many reptiles.
.

About Dustin’s New Book Release:

Dustin’s life was once full of joy, happiness, security, and success. With a lucrative job, a wife, and a home of his own, he was destined for a life of fortune, prosperity and comfort. That was before heroin. This unique and gripping tale is the first of its kind to tell the story of addiction through the eyes of both father and son.

Together, Dustin and Dallas shine a blinding light on the dark life of a junky. As Dustin decides to travel across the western states in search of a safe haven, Dustin wanders within a few footsteps of his own demise. Instead of finding freedom, however, his addiction cascades into corruption, deceit, and evil. As alcohol and drug abuse continues to ravage every community in America, this groundbreaking memoir offers important insight into the inner workings of an active user, as well as the pain of those loved ones who must helplessly stand by as the family structure disintegrates from addiction . . .
–  –  –  –  –  –  –

Now of course I am NO James Lipton from ‘the actors studio’ but I had a few burning questions for my old friend to make him feel like he was “sittin on the HOT SEAT” a little bit. LOL.
But he handled the answers pretty damn well! …
.

My Burning Questions for Dustin:

1.) I know you are a fantastic blogger and write there, but what made you come to be a writer and share your recovery? —
“The main reason I became a writer is because I knew my story needed to be told. Studying addiction issues in the US made me realize that my experience with addiction could help other families and the only way I could get my story out to the world was to put pen to paper.”

2.) Who inspires you in your recovery? (Writer, Author, etc.) —  “My father was a great inspiration. He was not in recovery but he co-authored my latest book and told the family side of my addiction to heroin. He died of an aggressive illness months before we were able to publish the final manuscript. He was a photographer and a columnist at a newspaper for many years. I decided to dedicate the book to him.”

3.) Was there any fear around sharing your life in book form for the world to read about your addiction and recovery? —  “There is massive amounts of fear in publicizing my story. Many times in the editing process I felt like minimizing what I did while telling my story. Once I realized that my fear was a boogeyman and a great gauge for honest writing, I began to embrace that fear.”

4.) What can you reveal personally about yourself that readers may not know about you and any advice to others in recovery? —  “As a second hobby I breed exotic reptiles. I can also say my ABCs faster backwards than I can forward. One piece of advice I would give to the recovery community and to everyone as a whole would be to learn who they are and where they came from. There is nothing more helpful for gaining happiness in the world than self-knowledge. Taking an objective view of your childhood is the most powerful practice towards freeing yourself from dysfunction and other harmful human attributes.
Dig deep. Be open and honest. Connect. As Socrates said “know thy self!”

One of my favorite book websites to visit is my UK buddy, Mr. Kevin Cooper called, “Kev’s Domain ~ Kev’s Great Indie Authors.”

It is a great place for both authors and readers and has a fresh new look to his site. He showcases indie authors, new books, book reviews and more. And being an author himself, he does a wonderful job in presenting many authors and their books and novels on his website.

Now you are wondering why I would give some love to another book promoter? Well, I have known Kevin a long time, and he did my book and author showcase a few years back when my first book came out. AND? Trust me, there are plenty of new indie authors looking for help to promote their books to go around. I recommend many of my book clients and readers to visit Kev’s site.

Great Indie Authors, Presents, … Author, Vinnie Sorce

of Chino Valley, Arizona

A Short Bio

Vinnie Sorce is an award-winning* author debuting his first book, Jersey Justice.

He’s been a writer for over ten years, selling articles and short stories along with blogging.

He grew up in North Jersey and currently lives in Arizona with one remaining child that hasn’t escaped yet. He likes to read, watch too much TV, wear his heart on his sleeve, and over examine situations that haven’t occurred yet.

Oh, and he eventually wants to save the world. No super powers are making that a difficult job, though.

*Now, when I say award-winning, I mean an award I made up and gave to myself. It was a beautiful ceremony. I cried.
.

Kev: What is your latest book about?

JerseyJustice.

It’s about a bullied youth who grows up to help people who can’t help themselves. His life is complicated by his off the wall sister, and his best childhood friend, Marci, who is slowly becoming his lover.

Kev: Who or what influenced you to write it?

Janet Evanovich and her Stephanie plum series was my influence. I grew up in North Jersey and loved the idea of having it set in such a familiar place.

Kev: Did you do any specialised research for your story?

Nope. Since the location was so familiar that was easy, and it’s fiction, so I improvised everything else!

Kev: What challenges did you face while writing the story?

The absolute biggest challenge was finding the time to write. A full-time job, and three kids make that difficult.

Kev:  Who is the protagonist?

Jimmy Vincent is my main man. I came up with his name and the title, Jersey Justice, first.

Kev: What would you say is the protagonist’s greatest weakness or obstacle and why?

His biggest weakness is his want to save the world and knowing he can’t do that.

Kev: What would you say is the main antagonist’s greatest strength?

He doesn’t realize it, but his greatest strengths are the people (characters) around him.

Kev: Could you provide a short passage from your book to give us a taster?

JerseyJustice“What the hell did you do?” he asked in dismay, hand to his head and covered in blood.

“I fought back,” was all I said calmly with a smile as I walked away, tucking the pistol into my jacket pocket. From now on, it would always be with me. This was a message to the scum of the world. From now on, it would be different.

Kev: Do you use some kind of formula when you write?

Not even a little bit. I just sit and write and it comes tumbling out. . . .

Kev: Preference for writing: Day or Night?

Not so much a preference as necessity. I write at night after work and after dinner.

Kev: What is your editing process?

When I have no juice left I start rereading what I already have and go from there.

Kev: Who creates your book covers?

I have a marketing friend who created this cover.

Kev: How do you promote your work?

Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn I also just hired a promoter who is getting me and the book out there.

Kev: What advice would you offer to new authors?

Don’t give up is the biggest advice I could give. Just keep writing and submitting, or go ahead and self-publish.

Kev: Which two social media platforms do you use the most and why?(Include links)

Twitter and Facebook are the two I use the most. I guess because I understand them, and am the most familiar with them.

https://twitter.com/vinniesorce

https://www.facebook.com/Vinnie.sorce.author

Kev: Do you have a website?

https://vinster82.wordpress.com/628-2/

Kev: Is there anything else you would like to add?

I am currently 80 pages into the sequel, Jersey Jezebel. Look for it soon!

Vinnie sorce, everyone!

About The Novel:
Jake Shaw, ex policeman, now private eye, isn’t too fussy about the kind of cases he handles. His cash flow won’t permit him that luxury. His wife has been kidnapped, and the kidnappers have threatened to kill her if he doesn’t do exactly as they say.

But the kidnappers have a unique request, which takes Jake by surprise. What is even more frustrating is that his client has lied to him, placing him in a life and death struggle to survive.

As things start to unravel, Jake wonders if this assignment’s linked to a previous case – one where the horrific end result kept him awake for months on end?
And who is this mystery man who keeps stalking Jake?

About The Book:
My name is Jimmy Vincent; I “fix” things.
Some people think I’m in the Mafia; I’m not.
Some people think I’m a hit man; I’m not.
Some people think I’m crazy?
They’re right.”

“I live in Jersey. I was brought up on a strict diet of sarcasm, bullies, and being a disappointment to my father. I help people who can’t help themselves. I’ve turned my bullied past into a one-man private army of retribution for the silent majority, too afraid to speak.”
.

That night-I still have nightmares. It happened so quickly, so effortlessly. Walking to our cars in the far parking lot one fall night, we were jumped from behind. Eric hit the pavement quickly with a gash on his head. Blood trickled down his ear and he was dazed. I looked up to see the attackers. One was a large Puerto Rican kid, over six feet tall, who had hit Eric on the head with a piece of pipe. Even in the chilly air, he was wearing only a black muscle t-shirt and jeans. An American flag bandana covered his head and a diamond stud decorated his left ear.

A snake tattoo on his right arm completed the picture. His accomplice was an overweight black man of medium height with no distinguishing features. He wore a Yankees cap and a black leather jacket. His pants were riding low, and his boxers showed in the rear. I didn’t know what kind it was, but a gun of some sort was stuck in his waistband. As they came at me, I just stood there, frozen. I wasn’t terrified like I thought I should be. My breathing was calm and easy, my eyes focused on the six-footer first. I was angry. I was sick and tired of the world being this way for me, and for others like me.
It had finally become time to fight back .. .. ..  JERSEY JUSTICE.

Now my last new writer and author has shared his true story in ‘Memoir’ form, and what a journey he has been on.
Meet my friend, Author Andrew Branham.

IMG_3977
(Amelia, Andrew Branham & DJ)
Now that sweet little one is what Andrew’s book is all about. A personal journey he wrote of the adoption process, including the huge obstacles he and DJ had to overcome to start a family and adopt Amelia. As it got titled, “the most difficult adoption in U.S. history” by adoption experts. Here is more about Andrew.

About The Author:
Andrew C. Branham was born in the culturally rich town of Lorain, Ohio – a few miles West of Cleveland and on the shores of Lake Erie. He is the son of two educators and has an older sister that lives in Michigan.

Andrew attended Lorain High School and then proceeded to get his bachelors degree from Bowling Green State University. He majored in environmental science with a minor in business administration. He graduated at the top of his class and earned a cum laude degree.

Upon graduation, Andrew entered the business world working for a major food company. He quickly climbed the corporate ladder and was soon promoted. As his career continued to flourish, he relocated to different cities 12 times (all over the United States).

About The Book:

“Hit #1 on Amazon’s LGBT Memoirs & Biography section!”

A true story of the challenges endured by two gay men who had the desire to adopt a child.

When Andrew and DJ decided to adopt and bring a child into their lives, little did they know what they were about to endure; yet never did the thought cross their minds to give up. The horrific, pitilessly, and beyond comprehensible hoops one woman would make them jump through demonstrates beyond a shadow of a doubt that little Amelia was going to be much better off in the loving home that Drew and DJ could provide her. Just when you think, how can two people survive such a nightmare and the journey is just about over when little Amelia is born and will be safely in the arms of her loving dads, Sandi decides to pull one more shenanigan that could change their lives forever.

“This Memoir is not just about a gay couple’s desire to adopt. This book is for all couple’s who have the desire to start a family through the adoption system.”

More than 10 million adults have been adopted or fostered in their childhood. Along with spiraling increases in adoptions comes a growing need to disclose the significant flaws in adoption laws that open the doors to fraud, manipulation, and abuse of the system. AMELIA is the first book to explore this dark side of the adoption process through the true story of one couple’s journey through hell. Called “the most difficult adoption in U.S. history” by adoption experts, the book appeals to nearly all families (traditional and non-traditional) interested in adoption, foster parenting, or surrogacy.

An amazing book filled with tips, advice, and eye-opening first-hand accounts, this is one feel-good story that serves an important purpose and fills a critical gap in adoption literature. – D. J. Herda .. ..

A Reader Review by an Anonymous Attorney:
“The best adoption memoir currently on the market. Why is it the best? Because it is 100% transparent and honest. No other book will give you such a candid look at the darker side of adoption. This is a must read for all adoptive or soon to be adoptive families.”
–  –  –  –  – –

Now I had just finished Andrew’s book and I myself gave it an Amazon & Barnes and Noble 5 Star Book Reviews!
So there you go readers. These are just a few of the Fine Men and their books and novels I have the privilege of book promoting for! Please support these wonderful writers and grab a copy of their new releases today!

As they came at me, I just stood there, frozen. I wasn’t terrified like I thought I should be. My breathing was calm and easy, my eyes focused on the six-footer first.

I was angry.

I was sick and tired of the world being this way for me, and for others like me. It had finally become time to fight back. The attacker raised his club, but he was too slow. I kicked him in the knee and heard a loud pop just before he let out an ear-piercing scream and fell hard to the ground.

I grabbed for the club and gave his buddy some unexpected dental work before he could even reach for his piece. He dropped to his knees and then fell face first to the pavement unconscious.

I felt under Tubbo and removed his weapon. I’d never held a gun before. It molded to my hand like it had always belonged there. Suddenly—I felt like I should never be without it again. The feeling was overwhelming and calming at the same time.

Without thinking twice, I stepped behind my unconscious mugger and fired two shots into the back of his head. It was easy, no remorse at all. I couldn’t believe how simple it was. The Puerto Rican kid tried to get up and run on his shattered knee after he saw this, his eyes wild with fear. He didn’t get far. Two shots to the back of his head made it a very short trip.

What had I done?

My name is Jimmy Vincent;

I “fix” things.

Some people think I’m in the Mafia; I’m not.
Some people think I’m a hit man; I’m not.
Some people think I’m crazy.

They’re right.

I live in Jersey. I was brought up on a strict diet of sarcasm, bullies, and being a disappointment to my father.

I help people who can’t help themselves. I’ve turned my bullied past into a one-man private army of retribution for the silent majority, too afraid to speak.

A scumbag I helped put away eight years ago has come home to roost and to take me down for revenge. To complicate matters, my baby sister, Carmen, unwittingly got involved by marrying (her fifth time) into the problem and not knowing her new husband was a Miami drug lord who she stole ten million dollars from. Oh, and she shot his brother. Double oh, she brought the money, and the gun, to me. Did I mention she was blonde?

My dearest childhood friend Marci has been by my side since 7th grade. Until now, we’ve always remained just friends, but one small slip (translated: we hit the sheets) during the chaotic events following Carmen’s return changed the rules. Had I fallen in love with her while I wasn’t looking? If that was the case, I’d have to stop almost getting her killed so often.

I have to save my sister, save me and possibly save a new relationship.

What the hell? It’s just another day in Jersey  .  .  .

Jersey Justice, By Vinnie Sorce Available now on Amazon & here on  Smashwords Books

Now my readers know I only ask a few questions of my Author Guests. And of course I’m no ‘James Lipton’ of the Actors Studio, but here is how Vinnie answered my questions . . .

1.) What made you decide to become a writer and published author?

“Well, to be honest, at first it was money. We were moving cross-country from Jersey to AZ and I was going without a job. I was reading Janet Evanovich at the time and I said to myself, “I can do this.” Of course it’s not easy or a money-maker, but I fell in love with my characters. Now I just feel like I have all kinds of things to say that I just want to keep going.”

2.)  What do you enjoy the most about writing?

“The creating, being able, literally, to make anything I want.
The lines that make me laugh or cry. The passages that I share with another writing friend because I know she’ll send back, “I love that!”

3.)  What book are you reading now?

“I am reading Devil’s Gate by Clive Cussler. I tend to not read new books because they’re just so darn expensive. I get my books for a quarter at the library, so I’m always behind.

Reviews:
5 Stars for such descriptive, exciting writing style!

August 5, 2015

I love how Vinnie’s personality seeps through into his writing. I feel as though I “Know” him, and I think that is the mark of a very talented writer. Or maybe it’s not even his personality. He very well may be a shy little gentleman who would never say the f-word. Either way, I Felt like I knew the writer and that’s what ever reader wants from a book. It’s the reason we will buy absolutely anything written by JK Rowling or George RR Martin.

Because we feel like we know them just from reading their completely fictional works. Anyway, I almost docked him a star because of umm…”unsavory language” but I figure it’s not his fault I’m a Christian mom so I won’t punish him for it! Ha! Anyway!!! Absolutely wonderful read!! Action, excitement….it does have “adult themes” & “adult language” just a little warning or heads up.
But I loved it and I Love Vinnie Sorce!!
He’s got a fan for life right here! :-) and can’t wait to read more from him! . . . .

Action Soaked Silliness!   5 Stars!

August 11, 2015 By: Matt

With tongue firmly planted in cheek author, Vinnie Sorce welcomes us to the world of “Jersey Justice”. This is a novel for those looking for a mental vacation, a chance to step away from their own lives and immerse themselves in a world where existence is a thin veil between a cartoon and reality.

The lead character, Jimmy Vincent, is a caricature, not to be taken seriously but a compilation of some of man’s worst traits somehow fused with a soul seeking justice for those who have been betrayed by society. Surrounded by a myriad of extreme characters from his slutty sister, moronic mafia sidekick, best friend girlfriend, and other bizarre manifestations of humanity we are guided by his narration through action packed twists and turns and bedroom romps that are a hybrid between classic Raymond Chandler gumshoe novels and today’s Hollywood heroes. However there is no time to ponder anything deep here, and the author clearly has not written the book with that in mind, instead it is a getaway from reality that is being offered here and for those who enjoy action soaked silliness they will find themselves drowning in it! . . .

About Wayne’s Novels:

About The New Release:

Jake Shaw, ex policeman, now private eye, isn’t too fussy about the kind of cases he handles. His cash flow won’t permit him that luxury. His wife has been kidnapped, and the kidnappers have threatened to kill her if he doesn’t do exactly as they say. They haven’t told the client what they want from him, and Jake presumes it’s the usual ransom demand for money. He undertakes to negotiate based on his assumption – pay the money and get the wife back alive.

How does he fit into the puzzle?
As the kidnappers’ deadline looms, Jake’s options are few – find the item the kidnappers want, or rescue the kidnapped wife before she is killed and disposed of. When he finds the mystery item, and arranges for a straight swap, the exchange goes horribly wrong. Now faced with finding the kidnapped wife on his own, he wonders whether he will be in time to save his client’s wife.

Do You Know What Day Today Is In History? Let Me Tell You With A Fantastic Suggested Read By: Author, Carl Baker

14 Days in July ~ by Carl Baker and Marc Heberden

About This Day In Our History . . .  On the 14th day of July in 1789, French revolutionaries storm Bastille.

Parisian revolutionaries and mutinous troops storm and dismantle the Bastille, a royal fortress that had come to symbolize the tyranny of the Bourbon monarchs. This dramatic action signaled the beginning of the French Revolution, a decade of political turmoil and terror in which King Louis XVI was overthrown and tens of thousands of people, including the king and his wife Marie Antoinette, were executed.

The Bastille was originally constructed in 1370 as a bastide, or “fortification,” to protect the walled city of Paris from English attack. It was later made into an independent stronghold, and its name–bastide–was corrupted to Bastille. The Bastille was first used as a state prison in the 17th century, and its cells were reserved for upper-class felons, political troublemakers, and spies. Most prisoners there were imprisoned without a trial under direct orders of the king. Standing 100 feet tall and surrounded by a moat more than 80 feet wide, the Bastille was an imposing structure in the Parisian landscape.

By the summer of 1789, France was moving quickly toward revolution. There were severe food shortages in France that year, and popular resentment against the rule of King Louis XVI was turning to fury. In June, the Third Estate, which represented commoners and the lower clergy, declared itself the National Assembly and called for the drafting of a constitution. Initially seeming to yield, Louis legalized the National Assembly but then surrounded Paris with troops and dismissed Jacques Necker, a popular minister of state who had supported reforms. In response, mobs began rioting in Paris at the instigation of revolutionary leaders.

Bernard-Jordan de Launay, the military governor of the Bastille, feared that his fortress would be a target for the revolutionaries and so requested reinforcements. A company of Swiss mercenary soldiers arrived on July 7 to bolster his garrison of 82 soldiers. The Marquis de Sade, one of the few prisoners in the Bastille at the time, was transferred to an insane asylum after he attempted to incite a crowd outside his window by yelling: “They are massacring the prisoners; you must come and free them.” On July 12, royal authorities transferred 250 barrels of gunpowder to the Bastille from the Paris Arsenal, which was more vulnerable to attack. Launay brought his men into the Bastille and raised its two drawbridges.

On July 13, revolutionaries with muskets began firing at soldiers standing guard on the Bastille’s towers and then took cover in the Bastille’s courtyard when Launay’s men fired back. That evening, mobs stormed the Paris Arsenal and another armory and acquired thousands of muskets. At dawn on July 14, a great crowd armed with muskets, swords, and various makeshift weapons began to gather around the Bastille.

Launay received a delegation of revolutionary leaders but refused to surrender the fortress and its munitions as they requested. He later received a second delegation and promised he would not open fire on the crowd. To convince the revolutionaries, he showed them that his cannons were not loaded. Instead of calming the agitated crowd, news of the unloaded cannons emboldened a group of men to climb over the outer wall of the courtyard and lower a drawbridge. Three hundred revolutionaries rushed in, and Launay’s men took up a defensive position. When the mob outside began trying to lower the second drawbridge, Launay ordered his men to open fire. One hundred rioters were killed or wounded.

Launay’s men were able to hold the mob back, but more and more Parisians were converging on the Bastille. Around 3 p.m., a company of deserters from the French army arrived. The soldiers, hidden by smoke from fires set by the mob, dragged five cannons into the courtyard and aimed them at the Bastille. Launay raised a white flag of surrender over the fortress. Launay and his men were taken into custody, the gunpowder and cannons were seized, and the seven prisoners of the Bastille were freed. Upon arriving at the Hotel de Ville, where Launay was to be arrested by a revolutionary council, the governor was pulled away from his escort by a mob and murdered.

The capture of the Bastille symbolized the end of the ancien regime and provided the French revolutionary cause with an irresistible momentum. Joined by four-fifths of the French army, the revolutionaries seized control of Paris and then the French countryside, forcing King Louis XVI to accept a constitutional government. In 1792, the monarchy was abolished and Louis and his wife Marie-Antoinette were sent to the guillotine for treason in 1793.

By order of the new revolutionary government, the Bastille was torn down. On February 6, 1790, the last stone of the hated prison-fortress was presented to the National Assembly. Today, July 14–Bastille Day–is celebrated as a national holiday in France.

Now, the rest of the story of  “14 Days In July” written in novel form by Authors Carl Baker and Marc Heberden. It has more twists and turns and inside secrets then you will ever read about in any history book. Here is what readers have said about this well written historical novel in currently 100 % all 5 Star Amazon book reviews:

14 Days in July Book Reviews:

A Best Seller For Sure!
“A page turner from the first to the last page.  An absolutely outstanding read! Carl and Marc have in my opinion, have a #1 Best Seller on their hands!”

Truly Amazing!
“This novel was truly amazing! I have never been to Paris, but the author describes it in such a manner, that I could picture it clearly. It was as if I were really there. The fourteen days leading up to the French Revolution are depicted vividly. The characters were all so well described and skillfully developed. The plot thickens and there are so many twists, turns, and chases throughout the streets of Paris, and also beneath the city in the forgotten catacombs. There is also another storyline about what happened 100 years before, involving a family secret that has been passed down through generations. This secret is the very core of the present day story. This novel is full of action and suspense. The reader is surprised by who turns out to be friend or foe. The romance is tender yet sizzling! It is indeed hard to put this book down once you begin to read it. I absolutely can’t wait to read the sequel!”

Riveting!
“This is a superb novel. It weaves together the French Revolution with the excesses of Louis XIV, the mystery of the Man In The Iron Mask, and even the Three Musketeers. I was fortunate enough to be in Paris on vacation while reading this book, and it made several of the places there come alive for me. Like the fiction of Philippa Gregory, the authors take known historical fact and fill in the unknown gaps with a plausible historical narrative. But there is a twist–for within that plausible historical narrative, there is a fascinating palace intrigue that forms a mystery in the genre of the DaVinci Code. I was especially impressed at the great care the authors took to describe the intimate details (including some steamy love scenes) seldom explored about French life before the revolution–the pathos of the proletariat and the peasants, the dissolving middle class, and the widening chasm between these classes and the insatiable appetites of the French aristocracy. I found the book riveting. It would make a great movie. Like other reviewers, I can’t wait for the sequel.!”

ABOUT THE NOVEL:

1 July 1789, Paris — Two weeks before the Revolution
France is undergoing a political upheaval unlike anything it has known before. Louis XVI is using savage mercenary forces and food blockages, to bring the people to heel. The country is a powder keg, and Paris is the fuse. In the midst of what could become bloody chaos, shadowy people— including the sinister and brutal chief of the Paris police—discover that a young Parisian laundress, Michèle Duvallier, whose fiancé is imprisoned for his political activities, knows a deadly, ancient secret that could shake France’s monarchy to its core. Michèle finds herself the object of a murderous manhunt. Her imprisoned fiancé’s citizen’s group, now led by his brother, is being chased from one hiding place to another. It is only during the fall of the Bastille that she learns why so many powerful people are hunting for her, but as well the shocking identity of who has been betraying them ….
.
September 1654, Burgundy — 135 years before the Revolution
A good-natured young man, an orphan, is mysteriously imprisoned with grotesque instructions to conceal his identity in such as way as to ensure he is to be forgotten for all time ….
The man in the iron mask was not a pure invention of Alexandre Dumas. The rumor of the existence of twin boys being switched, one of whom was to become Louis XIV, had been speculated on for well over a hundred years by many high sources— including Voltaire, who secretly told friends he had seen the man unmasked, and saw he was the king’s twin. But what Dumas, and no one else, wrote about, was the even more dangerous rumor that there was not only a switch, but as well … another lineage …

__________________________________________________________

So I am suggesting Carl’s novel to all my readers. I have not been a huge fan of historical novels, but after I read this one I enjoy them much more. I can tell you that knowing Carl Baker personally, he is a perfectionist when it comes to research and all the historical facts and locations in his novels. It’s what I feel you’ll enjoy the most about his writing, and other book readers do mention this fact in their book reviews.

One reader mentioned in his book review;  By Michael Gibson  “It weaves together the French Revolution with the excesses of Louis XIV, the mystery of the Man In The Iron Mask, and even the Three Musketeers. I was fortunate enough to be in Paris on vacation while reading this book, and it made several of the places there come alive for me.”

So grab your copy to read today,  this week, or this weekend. It also makes a great summer vacation read as well.
HAPPY READING!
