TODAYS WORD:  REWARDS

If you missed my blog recently, it’s because there wasn’t one. I was on a very special trip, making the acquaintance of two amazing great-grandsons.

Now, I was always convinced that my children were just about perfect, the best thing that ever happened to me. And they were. But then they began to give me grandchildren and I thought it couldn’t get any better than this. But it did. My grandchildren have begun to give me great-grandchildren, and my cup runneth over.

Surely, this is the most amazing reward for growing old, seeing your likeness in children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I wonder why I ever waited so long to reach this most elevated status. There is no sweeter feeling than when a…

My Three Years Blogging On WordPress? FABULOUS!

HELLO RECOVERY FRIENDS AND WELCOME ALL!

.

Happy Anniversary Catherine on WordPress.com!!!

You registered on WordPress.com 3 years ago. Thanks for flying with us.
Keep up the good blogging.

3 Year Anniversary Achievement
.

So, it has been 3 years ago today that I started this little thing called “Blogging.”

All I wanted to do was continue my recovery journey with others who may be suffering from gambling addiction like had. It was my way of sharing and continuing my recovery journey from my book titled,  “Addicted To Dimes, Confessions of a Liar and a Cheat.”

It was MY way to advocate, raise awareness, and inform the public about the dangers and devastation of this addiction, of this cunning disease. But when I started out I had no idea how others would take my blog about gambling addiction. There were very few blogs here on WordPress about addiction and recovery that I could find, and I was scared if people would “judge me?” I figured, “what the hell,” my whole life is out in the world in book form, so I had no secrets anymore.
.

.

I felt it deep within my heart and my faith that it was the right thing to do. To blog and advocate about this awful addiction and see what kind of feedback I would get. I can honestly say, everyone in the past three years that have come followed my blog here and left comments have been mostly Spectacular! The WordPress community embraced me with open arms, open hearts, and understanding. So, what more could I ask for?

Well, I will tell you. Currently, my recovery community is at 7,414 followers and my visitor count as of today is 34,964 Visits! SO, in the words of “Sally Fields at The Oscars? They Love Me! They really, really love me!!” LOL …

Now, of course, I am NOT that vain, but I feel that my recovery blog here on WordPress is an important blog. Again, there are many recovery blogs here on WP, but very few are about Recovery from Gambling Addiction …

As the first year or so went on, I finally also opened up and shared here on my WordPress blog about my mental health challenges as I am “dual diagnosed,”  meaning I live in recovery from addiction and battle mental health challenges. I was getting tired of reading about how STIGMA was hurting and holding back many from seeking treatment for mental health issues. Not to mention all the news reports of mass shootings that were happening all over the US. So I decided to step out of the shadows of shame for having mental/emotional disorders and challenges. And again? My WordPress community embraced me once more.

.

.
Again, I wanted full disclosure as to my mental health so I could advocate that there is no shame in being diagnosed with mental health illness. Be it mental or medical, it is time for those who don’t suffer have more empathy and understanding of what is like living with mental and emotional disorders. It can for many be very debilitating and painful.

So we don’t need to add more in the mix by having to include shame, embarrassment, or stigma, to make those who suffer feel worse. I always say, “kindness is a choice” and takes much less energy than HATE. Because sadly, those who don’t understand or even want to, and there are many, need to back off  ….

So many recovery blessings have happened here while I have been blogging here on WordPress! After my book released, so many awesome things have come. Too many to list, but a few are:

Guest Article Share~’Beware of These 5 Social Media Mistakes.

Hello and Welcome Readers, Authors, and Writers,

“I always enjoy sharing helpful articles I come across about book promoting and social media. And my dear friend Marsha Friedman from The PR Insider of  EMSI Public Relations always has fantastic tips and advice on how to use social media to our advantage.

I also teach my authors I book promote for just how important social media is to promote their books through. It is about engagement when using social media.
Building a following also builds your readership. Here is what Marsha suggests to us about social media.”

Don’t Make This 5 Social Media Mistakes

Social media sites have become a powerful way to market your brand, but anyone who follows the news is aware they present pitfalls as well.

Companies end up apologizing over ill-advised tweets. Individuals create controversy with Facebook posts they thought were innocuous – or perhaps knew would be controversial but didn’t anticipate just how controversial.

If you’re like me, you probably have more than enough headaches without adding a social media blunder to the list! So to help you avoid some of the more common mistakes that businesses and individuals make, I asked EMSI’s social media team to chime in.

Here’s how they say many people go astray:

  • Treating every platform the same. Social media sites are different and you need to approach them differently. Facebook, for example, is the most consumer-friendly and the first place most people go, whether they want to share photos of their grandchildren or learn what others have to say about their experiences with a business. LinkedIn is better for business and professional purposes. Twitter, with its character limit on messages, is the high-speed, information-now site. It’s a great place to check news updates. You also can get away with posting more often here than you can on other sites.

    .

  • Posting too frequently – or not frequently enough. You want a happy balance here. Some people flood their followers with Facebook posts. It becomes too much of a good thing and your followers’ eyes glaze over as they scroll quickly past your latest post – perhaps thinking, “Oh, no! Not him or her again!” On the other hand, out of sight is out of mind. If you rarely post, then your followers forget about you – and that’s not good either.

    .

  • Failing to use hashtags. When you are on Twitter or Instagram, you are trying to become part of the conversation. The hashtag allows more people to see your contributions to that conversation. For example, if you were on Twitter and tweeted something without a hashtag, only your followers would see it. (Unless, of course, they re-tweeted it to their followers.) But if you use a hashtag, any number of people could end up being exposed to what you have to say.

    .

  • Using poor spelling or incorrect grammar. I don’t want to become the Punctuation Police here, but it’s important to project a professional image. Misspelled words and problems with subject/verb agreement create the opposite effect. That means you need to remember what Mrs. Schubert taught you back in your high school English class. If you are unsure about a word’s spelling or the grammar in a particular sentence, look it up. Your computer can help some here, but don’t let those computerized spelling and grammar checks become a crutch. They don’t catch everything. For example, they will skip right past it if you use “their” when you should have used “there.”

    .

  • Posting offensive or inappropriate material. You can ruin years of goodwill in an instant if your social media sites are used to post something that many people find offensive. You would think that’s easy enough to avoid. But not necessarily. Sometimes it might not be clear to you that a particular post or tweet could strike people the wrong way, so be careful out there. Here’s an example where a careless moment resulted in social media backlash. During this year’s Oscars, Total Beauty, an online publication, tweeted how delighted it was to learn that Oprah Winfrey has tattoos. Just one problem. The woman in the Oscar photo accompanying the tweet was Whoopi Goldberg, not Oprah Winfrey. Critics pounced on the publication, and some mocked the mistake by posting their own tweets mixing up white celebrities. Total Beauty apologized.

Ouch! Yes, there are potential downsides if you’re not careful about what you’re doing. But such blunders aside, social media is a powerhouse marketing tool.

That’s why I maintain that the biggest social media mistake – by far – is not to be on social media at all. Go visit The PR Insider Marsha Friedman Today for more tips!

Sweet Dreams, Baby Belle by Kim Carter
Reviewed by Lia Farrell

Lizzie is just barely making it as a waitress when she meets Dr. Grant Chatsworth, and their quick courtship ends in what seems to be a picture-perfect marriage. Not only is Dr. Chatsworth tall and good-looking, but he is also a renowned cardiac surgeon and researcher into a new treatment for congestive heart failure. But when Lizzie moves into Dr. Chatsworth’s estate, things begin to go sour very quickly.

Lizzie soon finds herself a captive, cut off from her sister Maggie—her only family—under Housekeeper Flossie’s increasingly baleful eye. She is miserable and wants to leave: not only does she no longer love Grant, but she is increasingly suspicious that his research might be bogus. During a party intended to lure wealthy investors for her husband’s research, Lizzie faints. Flossie immediately suspects that she’s pregnant, which galvanized Lizzie into launching an escape plan.

Clara, Dr. Chatsworth’s nurse, also suspects he might be up to something, and joins causes with Lizzie, skimming money from the practice to help Lizzie escape to her sister’s house. Only able to venture outside after dark, Lizzie finds a gravestone in the Old Biloxi City Cemetery, labeled only “Baby Belle”. Feeling that Baby Belle is trying to contact her from beyond the grave gives Lizzie purpose, especially when she realizes the graves in that area are all labeled “Lunatic”. Lizzie is determined to unravel the mystery of Baby Belle and to achieve justice for the little lamb whose gravestone doesn’t even bear her last name.

As Grant Chatsworth’s empire begins to crumble, he becomes determined to find Lizzie and kill her before she can reveal what she knows. Can Lizzie stay hidden long enough to have her baby? Will Grant Chatsworth be shown up for the fraud that he is? Will the mystery of Baby Belle’s life and death save Lizzie, or kill her before Grant Chatsworth can?

Kim Carter’s Sweet Dreams, Baby Belle is a fast-paced action story with a subplot of messages from beyond the grave. It’s just the slightly spooky thing for readers who are interested in psychic phenomena.

Iconic Singer “Prince” Dead At Age 57 After Sharing He Was Writing His Memoir.

“PRINCE DEAD At AGE 57 ~ R&B, Rock, Funk God, Talented Musician and Artist.”

News broke today going worldwide of an iconic
and well-loved musicians of our time, especially the 80’s, has passed away in his Minnesota Mansion ~ Paisley Park Studio. How it happened is still under investigation, but many are shocked and in mourning. I never heard of any drug or alcohol use by Prince, but he had been battling the flu or illness.

“I hear the doves crying for our loss.”

Prince helped many up and coming artists get their foot in the door of music and entertainment industry like Sheena Easton, Carmen Electrica, Apollonia Kotero, Sheila E, and Vanity, who died at age 57 as well.
Isn’t that strange?”
.

.

“Leave it to Prince to announce his new memoir with a last-minute invitation-only performance at a Manhattan nightclub.”

“The good people of Random House have made me an offer that I can’t refuse,” Prince, 57, said before a crowd of about 300 people. “You all still read books, right?” The singer said that the memoir was tentatively titled “The Beautiful Ones,” after a song from his 1984 album, “Purple Rain.”

Prince added that he was at work on the book with “my brother Dan” — the writer and editor Dan Piepenbring of the Paris Review, who is assisting the musician on what will be his first book. “He’s a good critic,” Prince said. “That’s what I need. He’s not a yes-man at all.” He added, “We’re starting right at the beginning — my first memory — and hopefully we can move all the way to the Super Bowl.”

.

.

Now I wonder if his memoir will ever see the light of day? I will always be a huge fan of his as I grew up with his music. Of course, I have watched “Purple Rain” the movie like a million times. There was always something unique and mystical about Prince. I am sure that is why all the women were so attracted to him. And what a musical career he had! So I will wait with ‘bated breath’ to learn what the cause of his death was like many of us will. 57 is much to young to leave this earth.

Who Was Prince ~ ( June 7, 1958 – April 21, 2016)

Prince Rogers Nelson was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His home and Studio is in Channhassen, Minnesota. His father was John L. Nelson a well-known jazz musician, and his mother Mattie Shaw a jazz & blues musician and they had met at a jazz show in Minnesota.

Married and divorced twice, and had lost his only child. Mayte Garcia his first wife was a backup singer of his. They had two children together, one passed and the other a miscarriage. They divorced in 2000. His married his second wife, Manuela Testolini who was from Toronto, Canada. Their marriage lasted only five years.

His Musical Legacy: Courtesy of Biography.com

“He changed his name four times in his life. A brilliant songwriter. In 1978, Prince released his debut album, For You, which was followed by Prince (1979), Dirty Mind (1980) and Controversy(1981)—all of which created controversy due to their fusion of religious and sexual themes. The singer found international success with the release of his 1982 album, 1999, which included hit singles like “Little Red Corvette” and “Delirious.”

“Prince went on to create the album Purple Rain (1984), which was also made into a film by the same name, grossing over $80 million at the U.S. box office. The film garnered an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. The title track “Purple Rain” hit no. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, while the hits “When Doves Cry” & “Let’s Go Crazy” both reached no. 1. With his band The Revolution.”

.

.

In 1986 Prince released his eighth studio album Parade, which included his no. 1 hit single “Kiss.” Parade served as the soundtrack for the artist’s second film Under the Cherry Moon, which he directed and starred in.

After the disbanding of the Revolution, Prince was able to consolidate various shelved projects into what ultimately became the double album, Sign “O” the Times (1987).
By the time he released his 11th studio album, Batman, in 1989, Prince had become one of America’s most commercially successful pop artists. And into the 90’s the hits continued.

In 2004, after several years of relative obscurity, Prince returned to the limelight to perform at the Grammy Awards with Beyonce Knowles. That spring, he released Musicology with a tour that became the top concert draw in the United States. The album won two Grammys. His next album, 3121, was released in 2006. That year, he wrote and performed “Song of the Heart” for the animated film Happy Feet, and won a Golden Globe (Best Original Song) for the composition. In 2007, he performed for the Super Bowl XLI halftime show on a massive stage shaped as his famous symbol amid pouring rain.

2010 was the year of accolades for Prince. He not only was lauded by Billboard.com as the greatest Super Bowl performer ever, he was also featured in TIME magazine’s “100 Most Influential People in the World” and earned a Lifetime Achievement Award from the BET Awards. He ended the year with an induction into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

On May 2, 2015, Prince staged a Dance Rally 4 Peace at his Paisley Park Studios in Minnesota to pay tribute to Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old African-American who died in police custody after his arrest in Baltimore, and to show support for the activists protesting his death. With his backup band 3RDEYEGIRL, Prince performed a 41-minute concert including his protest song “Baltimore,” which was inspired by Gray’s death.

A Devout Jehovah’s Witness, he has donated millions to many charties and organisations, and everyday people to. Prince was extremely private about his personal life, and he preferred to spend time at his Paisley Park compound, away from the celebrity spotlight.

Dear Prince,

You no longer have to hear doves cry now that your “Among The Angles In Heaven.” R.I.P …
