When Is The Killing Of Innocent Black
Men Going To Stop?

I wanted to share a very interesting Blog Post by Justin C. Cohen regarding the two recent shootings of two innocent black men just going about their day until they came across encounters with police. WHAT the hell is going on in AMERICA?  When did people become SO immune to this disgusting break down of today’s Society in America? Are we getting closer and closer to the “End of Times” here on earth? Can someone explain this to me?

Here is how Justin sees it . . . .

“Advice for White Folks in the Wake of The Police Murder of A Black Person”…

.

.

Yesterday, Alton Sterling was executed by a police officer in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The video of the encounter is gruesome, and it should shake you to your core, no matter the color of your skin. The police tackled him to the ground, pinned him, and shot him at close range. By definition, this is an extrajudicial killing. It’s not dissimilar to what happened to Eric Garner, Laquan McDonald, Mike Brown, Sandra Bland, Rekia Boyd, and a long line of Black people who have lost their lives at the hands of a corrupt and racist criminal justice system. We know their names, and it’s up to us to say them.

I feel an extraordinary amount of anger and sadness today, but that pain cannot compare to what our Black friends and colleagues are experiencing. As a White person, I will never know the extent of this sort of pain. I can, however, offer some modest advice to other White folks who are trying to figure out how to be good allies on a day like today.

1.)  If you’re White, don’t look to your friends of color for answers today. If you haven’t already grappled with the extent to which our criminal justice system – from the police to prosecutors to prisons – treats Black people differently than they treat you, today is not the day to start reaching out. If you’re eager to learn, talk to other White people who have been engaged in this work, as one of their primary roles as allies is to lessen the burden that people of color have for the education process around issues of justice. Now also is a good time to do some independent reading and research. If data moves you, read Michelle Alexander’s The New Jim Crow, which catalogs the extent to which the American criminal justice system disproportionately, and unjustly, punishes Black people. Once you’ve spent some time educating yourself, then you should have some conversations with friends of color, but you should spend most of the time listening to them.

2.)  What happened to Alton Sterling is, in fact, about race. If you are tempted to change the subject to something else, please resist that urge. Police kill Black people at a rate disproportionate to both criminal activity and their presence in the population at large. Campaign Zero has done an extraordinary job of cataloging both the extent of this problem and its relationship to race. What happened to Alton Sterling does not happen to White people.

3.)  Be aware of a few standard, and racist, media tropes about Black victims. In the wake of police executions, you are bound to hear a few things that distract from the real issues. One of those storylines is that “he was no angel,” wherein the media will outline the various ways in which the victim behaved inappropriately in the past. None of this matters, and it certainly does not change the fact that the police killed the person outside of any legal process. I smoked pot when I was in high school, such as, and if the police used that as justification to murder me, that would be ludicrous. The second narrative that will emerge is that the killing of Alton Sterling is part of the “Ferguson effect,” wherein police killings are linked to increases in crime. This is not true, as there is no statistical connection between local crime rates and police killings:

.

The “black on black crime” crowd back at it again. No evidence to support their claims, all white supremacist pseudoscience.

They’ll say black people are killed by police because of “crime” when there’s no correlation between the two issues.pic.twitter.com/VaY4zNMKlX

.

The final storyline to avoid believing is the notion that the real problem is “Black on Black” crime. Bringing this up is an attempt to change the subject away from the extrajudicial killing of Black people by the police. Not to mention, the vast majority of crimes are committed in racial groups, so “White on White” crime is just as prevalent as “Black on Black” crime.

4.) As a White person, you are in a unique position to influence the perspectives of other White people. If the illegal killing of Black people by the police bothers you, as it should, talk to your White friends about it. There are many nuances and ambiguities in institutional racism, but the police committing murder is not one of them. In many cases, having these conversations will not be easy. The more you talk about race, however, the easier it will become. You might even change some minds, particularly among family members. If you’re already spending time talking to other White people about race, now is a good time to help other White people develop their skills.

It is never too late to make a personal commitment to being a more active ally in the movement for Black lives. A year ago this month, folks were fighting to take down the Confederate flag from the South Carolina state capitol, after the massacre at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston. A year ago this month we started wondering what happened to Sandra Bland. Correcting these injustices is the work of generations, not years or months. If you’re a White person on the sidelines, we need you in the fight.

Please raise your voice, particularly today.

“Now, of course, when my guest posted his blog post, there was another senseless killing of Philando Castile not long after and was live streamed on Facebook to prove that Philando Castile had not done anything to provoke the police. He was reaching for his wallet to get his licence and gun permit when the officer fired on him.
Then? Last night, we have a “Killing Spree” at a protest for the two slain men of Dallas Police officers? More killing and carnage of innocent lives. Wow! I have no words. No words except for what I wrote in the beginning of this post.

Is this what AMERICA HAS COME TO?
Look, there are people on both sides of this tragedy who are not going to agree about this whole mess. But it is NOT about who is right or who is wrong. It not about black or white, it is not about “black lives matter” or “all lives matter” it is about “Human Beings” being killed, lives being taken from families and loved ones.

.

DO YOU really think it matters what the color of your skin is when you are lying in a pine box six feet under the ground? Really? No, what matters is that another human being was killed in another senseless shooting. That is what matters here” . . . .

“My Thoughts, Love and Prayers go out to all the Families whose loved ones were Killed and Hurt in all the senseless killings this past week. This is to ALL LIVES TAKEN” .  .  .  .

Stark of Washington state and Morse of New York are currently promoting “Reclaiming Your Addicted Brain.” A fantastic recovery “how to guide” about friends and family who are baffled by the behaviors, antics, and thinking of the addicted one. Their patience, tolerance, and love are depleted quickly. Eventually, their empathy and compassion exhausted, they say the inevitable, “He will just have to hit bottom,” as they shake their heads and walk away. “Reclaiming Your Addicted Brain” reviews the return journey from addict land, the learning of how to leave our thinking errors behind.

Written around the recovery story of one man from alcohol and sex addiction, clinical notes, and comments appear throughout the story helping the reader to understand this baffling disease. Addicts report being able to see their behaviors that were previously hidden from them when they are manifest in someone else. Reading George’s (the book’s addicted character) story and misadventures creates ‘aha’ moments of understanding that can open the doors to recovery.

“My thoughts and prayers to the families and those passed and wounded in another senseless shooting in Orlando, FL. … I posted this on my Author FB page first thing this morning. My heart goes out to those still looking for their loved that were inside the nightclub until all victims are accounted for” ….

OK, when is enough going to be enough? Was The San Bernardino Shooting a “Wake Up Call” that shootings will not stop unless we begin to change, add or enforce the “Gun Control Laws” in this Country?

How passing a bill to close the F _ _ KING loop-holes at “Gun Trade Shows and Internet Sales?”

NRA’ers you can complain all you want that any bill passed will take away your guns?

Bullshit!

I am getting really TIRED of That EXCUSE!!

It is called “Gun CONTROL” PEOPLE, not “GUN Take Away” … I’m sure any of those who think just because a bill is passed we are trying to take your guns away when deep down YOU know that is not the case!

I am pretty Damn SURE ONE of the 50 people in this nightmare was YOUR wife, husband, son, daughter or someone you love was KILLED, your opinion about “Gun Control” would change real fast.

We can not afford more “DEAD BODIES OR MORE CARNAGE LIKE THIS!!!”
PASS GUN CONTROL LAWS NOW!!!  It is time!

A gunman wielding an assault-type rifle and a handgun opened fire inside a crowded Florida nightclub early Sunday, killing at least 50 people before dying in a gunfight with SWAT officers, police said. It was the worst mass shooting in American history.…

It was just a very Healthy Debate.

Catherine Townsend-Lyon Author I Know!!! And I am SO tired of the gun owners saying they are afraid that if any gun control laws are passed that it will mean the government will take away guns when they KNOW that is not going to happen! Tired of The NRA scaring people into thinking that will happen when it won’t!

Trey Clarke There has never been a gun involved crime where the gun acted alone. There is always a “person” behind it. Although, it is far easier to “control” or take away, or “gun grab” the weapon than it is to predict the “criminal” intent of a person or the lunacy of the mentally impaired soul.

I am a member of the NRA. I was raised around gun-toting rednecks and not once did any of us killed one person or a large number of them.
Nor did our guns act of their own accord.
Guns can be controlled. People can’t, to an extent. It is a slippery slope. But, I agree; there is a need for some RATIONAL control.
But, remember this….
If a madman wants to kill, he WILL.

RELIGION.
And no, he shouldn’t have had access to a gun.
Problem is, he was an American citizen by birth. He “enjoyed” the same rights as all citizens. The problem is he was “radicalized” and appears from early reports that he was a little cracked.
Mark my words, Cat… Catherine Townsend-Lyon Author.
1) There will be an increase in troop involvement in the middle east.
2) There will be escalation of huge proportions in air raids to the extent where the welfare of non-combatants will no longer be a concern.
3) There will be a be a more insistent call for Muslim registration. (circa WWII)
4) Internment
Watch and see

But he understood the other side of things

They can go to their local feed store etc, pick up fertilizer or some other chemical and make a bomb like they did in Oklahoma City and do way more destruction. Evil will always be with us. Catherine Townsend-Lyon Author Very true. But it seems NO one wants to get involved these days. Very sad. You see it on the news all the time when a shooting happens and police and investigators go door to door asking if they seen anything, they are fearful to come forward. People need to be aware of what is going on and Report It …

SEE, people can have passion about how they feel and not have to rude or full of hate to carry on a healthy conversation. We were all made different for a reason, but we can all agree to disagree in kind friendly manner. Now I want to share below a post made, and also what I had seen on the news about someone who was looking for a person, who ended up one of the victims that died and the last communication he had with his mom. It so heartbreaking!!!

“A young man who is now confirmed dead sent this text to his mum from inside the club:

“Mommy I love you”

“I’m in club they are shooting.”

She shared the text message exchange with the Associated Press, in which her son told her that he was trapped in the bathroom at Pulse, and asked her to call the police. The 9-1-1 dispatcher had her stay on the line.

At 2:39 a.m., the most devastating texts began to come:
“Call them mommy / Now. / He’s coming / I’m gonna die”…

“So what are your thoughts and feelings about this tragedy? How do you think we can make changes be it Gun Control Laws or other means to hopefully stop these tragic shootings and events from happening so often? Is this just the society we live in these days? Can we ever have Harmony and Peace in our World? I scratch my head and think? How as people did we get to this point in our society? Can we ever go back to the “Good Ole Days ?”

“With the internet and tech explosion, I really don’t think so. Is this more of a religious thing? Like the writings in The Bible of The Book of Revelations and the last days on earth? I don’t have a clue, but many things in the last few decades seems to be happening. Just my opinion and how I see our world. Share your thoughts” …

“My Thoughts, Prayers, and Sympathies to the families who lost a loved one in this tragic shooting. And to those hurt as well a speedy recovery. No words can ever take the place of what you went through in that night club. Just know YOU ARE NOT ALONE”  ….

Iconic Singer “Prince” Dead At Age 57 After Sharing He Was Writing His Memoir.

“PRINCE DEAD At AGE 57 ~ R&B, Rock, Funk God, Talented Musician and Artist.”

News broke today going worldwide of an iconic
and well-loved musicians of our time, especially the 80’s, has passed away in his Minnesota Mansion ~ Paisley Park Studio. How it happened is still under investigation, but many are shocked and in mourning. I never heard of any drug or alcohol use by Prince, but he had been battling the flu or illness.

“I hear the doves crying for our loss.”

Prince helped many up and coming artists get their foot in the door of music and entertainment industry like Sheena Easton, Carmen Electrica, Apollonia Kotero, Sheila E, and Vanity, who died at age 57 as well.
Isn’t that strange?”
.

.

“Leave it to Prince to announce his new memoir with a last-minute invitation-only performance at a Manhattan nightclub.”

“The good people of Random House have made me an offer that I can’t refuse,” Prince, 57, said before a crowd of about 300 people. “You all still read books, right?” The singer said that the memoir was tentatively titled “The Beautiful Ones,” after a song from his 1984 album, “Purple Rain.”

Prince added that he was at work on the book with “my brother Dan” — the writer and editor Dan Piepenbring of the Paris Review, who is assisting the musician on what will be his first book. “He’s a good critic,” Prince said. “That’s what I need. He’s not a yes-man at all.” He added, “We’re starting right at the beginning — my first memory — and hopefully we can move all the way to the Super Bowl.”

.

.

Now I wonder if his memoir will ever see the light of day? I will always be a huge fan of his as I grew up with his music. Of course, I have watched “Purple Rain” the movie like a million times. There was always something unique and mystical about Prince. I am sure that is why all the women were so attracted to him. And what a musical career he had! So I will wait with ‘bated breath’ to learn what the cause of his death was like many of us will. 57 is much to young to leave this earth.

Who Was Prince ~ ( June 7, 1958 – April 21, 2016)

His Musical Legacy: Courtesy of Biography.com

“He changed his name four times in his life. A brilliant songwriter. In 1978, Prince released his debut album, For You, which was followed by Prince (1979), Dirty Mind (1980) and Controversy(1981)—all of which created controversy due to their fusion of religious and sexual themes. The singer found international success with the release of his 1982 album, 1999, which included hit singles like “Little Red Corvette” and “Delirious.”

“Prince went on to create the album Purple Rain (1984), which was also made into a film by the same name, grossing over $80 million at the U.S. box office. The film garnered an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. The title track “Purple Rain” hit no. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, while the hits “When Doves Cry” & “Let’s Go Crazy” both reached no. 1. With his band The Revolution.”

.

.

In 1986 Prince released his eighth studio album Parade, which included his no. 1 hit single “Kiss.” Parade served as the soundtrack for the artist’s second film Under the Cherry Moon, which he directed and starred in.

After the disbanding of the Revolution, Prince was able to consolidate various shelved projects into what ultimately became the double album, Sign “O” the Times (1987).
By the time he released his 11th studio album, Batman, in 1989, Prince had become one of America’s most commercially successful pop artists. And into the 90’s the hits continued.

In 2004, after several years of relative obscurity, Prince returned to the limelight to perform at the Grammy Awards with Beyonce Knowles. That spring, he released Musicology with a tour that became the top concert draw in the United States. The album won two Grammys. His next album, 3121, was released in 2006. That year, he wrote and performed “Song of the Heart” for the animated film Happy Feet, and won a Golden Globe (Best Original Song) for the composition. In 2007, he performed for the Super Bowl XLI halftime show on a massive stage shaped as his famous symbol amid pouring rain.

2010 was the year of accolades for Prince. He not only was lauded by Billboard.com as the greatest Super Bowl performer ever, he was also featured in TIME magazine’s “100 Most Influential People in the World” and earned a Lifetime Achievement Award from the BET Awards. He ended the year with an induction into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

On May 2, 2015, Prince staged a Dance Rally 4 Peace at his Paisley Park Studios in Minnesota to pay tribute to Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old African-American who died in police custody after his arrest in Baltimore, and to show support for the activists protesting his death. With his backup band 3RDEYEGIRL, Prince performed a 41-minute concert including his protest song “Baltimore,” which was inspired by Gray’s death.

A Devout Jehovah’s Witness, he has donated millions to many charties and organisations, and everyday people to. Prince was extremely private about his personal life, and he preferred to spend time at his Paisley Park compound, away from the celebrity spotlight.

Dear Prince,

You no longer have to hear doves cry now that your “Among The Angles In Heaven.” R.I.P …

Author A.R. Tirant Makes Media Splash with her Book “Echoes from the Oasis!”

Hello Readers and Welcome Blog Friends and Authors,

“Media Release for “Echoes From The Oasis” a Historical Romance Novel”

“One of the many reasons why I enjoy helping authors promote all their fantastic books? Well, for one it is my passion! And, when my authors make mainstream media headlines. Great job Rosie Tirant!”

Stunning Novel Depicts Bold, Brave Women of Seychelles’ Bygone Era… Hailed “Captivating” by Critics.”

BEAU-VALLON, MAHE, SEYCHELLES, February 25, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ — Written from the heart by A.R. Tirant, ‘Echoes from the Oasis’ is the first volume in a compelling new series that thrusts readers back to the turn of the nineteenth century to explore the colourful history, religion, culture and changing role of women inhabiting the Seychelles. Tirant is herself a native of the islands, and her tale of love, faith, brevity and a deadly Smallpox epidemic goes beyond illustrating the region’s exotic beauty and natural charm to celebrate the sheer grit of the islanders of this tiny British Colony on the eve of the ‘First World War’.

While millions flock to many of the Seychelles’ 115 islands in search of sand, sea and sun, few are aware that the region’s history is boundlessly tumultuous and fascinating. In her cinematic new novel, the author manages to skilfully hold the reader’s attention as the story develops its numerous threads that set the stage for a flurry of love and passion in the midst of hardships suffered by the young community of the tiny archipelago. Her penmanship is particularly remarkable in the manner in which she paints the historical backdrop to the stage setting as she introduces the main players whose lives and passions intertwine with the historical events of that period.

‘Echoes from the Oasis’ is a cocktail of love, adversity, religious oppression and societal change – all told through the eyes of a young nurse – Anna Savy – who refuses to experience life from the sidelines. But, as with any epic work of fiction, her thirst for more comes with its fair share of challenges…

Our story opens in 1912 on the island of Mahe. The forces of newly found love between Anna, the daughter of an overseer, and Louis du Barre, the son, and heir of the landed gentry, faces the almost impossible challenge because of their backgrounds and social status, taking them on a head-on clash with all the norms and values of that period.

While the novel’s central focus is naturally on the Seychelles, the story also visits many other areas of the world, their fascinating brushes with history, and their connections with the Seychelles islands. The myth of the ‘Garden of Eden’, the siege of Khartoum and the demise of British General, Charles Gordon, is prominently featured. Through two of the main characters, the hatred and mistrust between Irish Catholics and English Protestants show’s the devastating impact of the ‘Potato Famine’ in Ireland, but it also highlights the power of forgiveness, and how we are all the same in God’s eyes.

Without doubt, no story of a colony of Great Britain, no matter how tiny, could ever be told without showing the role played by the ‘Motherland’, so we see the garrison town of Greenwich and East London, with the mighty River Thames taking prime focus, with its numerous quays docking the Steam Ships plying those rich cargo routes of the colonies, but with a slight twist, as it is two English ladies of Greenwich who shows us the real East End.

Readers have celebrated the novel, with a string of five-star reviews. Frank Alphonse comments, “This unstoppable book is a must have and a must read. The writings boast incredible characters, fantastic locations, and wonderful adventures which are all tokens of the author’s commitment to her research but also to her natural charm”. Whilst David Sinon adds, “From the minute I started reading the book, I did not want to put it down. Beautiful, well written, captured the essence of the islands”. ‘About the Author’

Rosie Tirant-Longhurst, aka A.R. Tirant, was born in the Seychelles in November 1958. The daughter of a policeman and, the eldest in a family of four brothers and four sisters. She grew up on the northern coast of Mahe island, in the tiny seaside village of Beau-Vallon. Her working life started in 1975 as a nurse at Mahe’s Victoria Hospital, and followed thereafter by a career in the Hotel Industry. She emigrated to England in 1995, and now lives in West Sussex with her husband. She has two grown up sons and a granddaughter.

Rosie wasn’t born with a pen in her hand, far from it. Life growing up was hard and strict. The home comforts we all now take for granted were but a dream for the young girl whose days were divided between household chores, cooking, cleaning and looking after her young siblings. Water for all the household use had to be carried from a stream, with one hand holding a pail on her head, and the other keeping a second from spilling.

Education only happened because it was the one way of getting some rest during the daytime, even if the chores still had to be done by the light of a coconut oil lamp. They were difficult times… times when she would lean against the pillar of the outdoor kitchen waiting for dinner to cook in the large black pots, staring at the tropical skies and marveling at the diamond beauty of the scattering of stars above, and all the while wishing for a different life…

‘Echoes from the Oasis’ is her debut novel which will be followed by other titles in the same series.

Why Should Authors and Readers Engage & Connect With Each Other?

Hello Readers, Authors, and New Friends,

Why should authors and readers connect? There are many reasons why for both sides of this topic. As a book promoter, I know how important it is for an author to interact and engage with their reader fans. It creates more excitement for the reader to know an author is “touchable” and they can learn more about their favorite writers, which helps authors with book sales and gaining more book reviews for books. And it seems I am not the only book promoter, social media PR firm and book marketing site that feels this way.

Here are two articles I came across this week that can give insights as to why authors need and should interact and engage with readers throughout social media and many book sites are exclusively for this purpose like Goodreads. I will share snippets as I would like you to visit and join free so you can be “In The Know” with many tips and advice on book promoting  . . .

“This morning I received three emails.”

.
One was from a lady in Scotland who read one of my books and joined my fan page. She wanted me to know how much she appreciated waking up and finding that I had responded to her messages.

The second was from a man in Australia who sent me a list of things he liked about Silent Witness. He highlighted sentences that he particularly liked, but at the end of his note, he said, “thank you for making Hannah so intelligent.”

The third was from the very first fan I ever had. We’ve been pen pals for 28 years. Now we communicate on the computer but every once in a while we still send one another a card, remember birthdays, the holidays and share information on grandchildren (hers since I only have a grand dog).

The point of all this is that what authors do is extremely personal. It begins with our characters. If we don’t feel them in our souls and translate that feeling into words on the page, our books will be enjoyed but not treasured. When we do make that magic happen and a reader reaches out, opening a personal dialogue with them will make a reader into a fan. In some wonderful instances, it also creates a friend.

Here are my top five rules of engagement:

.
1) Know thou characters: Know the personal history and habits of every character in your book and write as if you live and die with them. If you do this, real people will reach out to you . . .

No one really needs to convince me how great social media is for connecting you to your customers (Readers)  – and keeping you connected – but the point was reinforced perhaps better than ever this week when I was chatting with Jay York, our senior social media strategist.

Jay was telling me about Datz, a restaurant near his home in Tampa, that has impressed him with its excellent use of social media as a marketing tool.
Talk about connecting! Datz has more than 12,000 followers on Twitter. It has nearly 8,000 on Instagram. It has 1,280 mostly positive reviews on Yelp. And, perhaps most impressive of all, more than 40,000 people “like” Datz on Facebook.
Those are remarkable numbers for any business. But especially when you consider that Datz is a local restaurant and not a recognizable brand name like McDonald’s!
So why am I telling you this? Because this social media success story prompted me to have Jay share tips on how small businesses ( and authors promoting their books) can make the most out of their social media to keep customers and potential customers thinking about them.

.
Here’s what Jay had to say:

  • Interact with customers. Engage your customers inside your business as well as outside it. Some of the most successful restaurant owners have mastered this, Jay says. They take the time to chat with and get to know their customers when they are dining at the restaurant, and they also interact with them on social media. Here’s where it’s worth remembering the “social” part of social media. These sites are all about having a conversation and people expect you to be involved in that conversation – or else they’ll be discouraged from interacting with you in the future.
    .
  • Use undivided attention opportunities to promote your social media. There are a few ways to do this, Jay says. In-store signage that encourages you to follow the business on social media is the most obvious. Restaurants, such as, might drive visiting customers to their social media sites by giving 10 percent off an entrée if they follow them right at that moment on Twitter. Professional speakers can use the same strategy when they’re in front of a large audience by posting their Twitter handle on the screen behind them. The point is to take advantage of the attention of hundreds or thousands of people – all with mobile devices – who can start following you immediately .  .  .
