About The Award-Winning Book:

Randall Grange has been tricked into admitting herself into a treatment center and she doesn’t know why. She’s not a party hound like the others in her therapy group—but then again, she knows she can’t live without pills or booze.  Raised by an abusive father, a detached mother, and a loving aunt and uncle, Randall both loves and hates her life. She’s awkward and a misfit. Her parents introduced her to alcohol and tranquilizers at a young age, ensuring that her teenage years would be full of bad choices, and by the time she’s twenty-three years old, she’s a full-blown drug addict, well acquainted with the miraculous power chemicals have to cure just about any problem she could possibly have—and she’s in more trouble than she’s ever known was possible.

“Editorial Reviews”

“How to Grow an Addict is J.A. Wright’s debut novel. It’s been named best book of 2015 by Redbook/Good Housekeeping magazine and a finalist in both the 2015 USA Best Book Awards and 2015 Forward Reviews’ INDIEFAB Book of the Year Award.

“Wright deftly and insightfully describes how a life can spiral toward addiction and rehab. The story is raw and touching and I found myself rooting for Randall as she navigates redemption and sobriety. A gritty and honest read.”
-Susie Orman Schnall, award-winning author of On Grace and The Balance Project.

“J. A. Wright’s book is a compelling illustration of what fertile ground families are for nurturing addiction. It’s not all doom and gloom however – the story is told in a clear-eyed, unsentimental voice which, for me, made it utterly convincing.”  – Morrin Rout, Co-producer/presenter of Bookenz

“It seems my friend and fellow Author, J. A. Wright has the ‘write recipe’ in writing a great piece of fiction that includes addiction and recovery laced & weaved real life experience into this storyline.”

It will be my next book I will be reading and excited to start. But I can tell you the ‘Amazon Book Reviews’ are exceptional, and they are coming in hot and heavy as (43) total as of this post. Now, I’m no ‘James Lipton’ of the “Actors Studio,” so here is a little more about her writing and a wee bit more about her personal side of life. We all know I only ask a few questions of my guests, and here is what Jodi shared.

.

1.)  Do you share your recovery story with others? Or is this question “off-limits?”

Sure. I’m open to talking about it. I have no issues with anyone knowing about my life as an addict or a recovering addict.

2.) What is the most challenging for you as a writer?

Finding the time to write is my biggest challenge. It takes four or five days of writing for a few hours for me to get into a writing groove. I don’t get this opportunity as often as I’d like as I have a job (to support my writing ambitions), and it too often gets in the way of my writing. I do keep a process diary (journal) that I add ideas and thoughts to almost daily.

3.) How do deal with writer’s block?

I don’t deal with it very well. I’m pretty hard on myself about not getting something done on time. I’ve heard that giving yourself a break and adopting an attitude of gratitude is helpful. I might try it.

4.)  How difficult was it to weave in addiction into your storyline?

Not difficult at all. I was raised around heavy drinkers, problem drinkers, and alcoholics, and more enablers than I can count. I have no shortage of material.  LOL.

5.) Lastly, what are a few of your hobbies and interests? And can you tell us one thing readers may not know about you?

I run, I mountain bike and hike and I bake. I pretty sure I’m not  at all that interesting when it comes to those secret things, but I’ve always been leery about telling people I once collected stamps and I’m a super big fan of Jazz!

#    #    #    #   #

LOL, I don’t think stamp collecting is all that bad to share Jodi … “-)

Author A.R. Tirant Makes Media Splash with her Book “Echoes from the Oasis!”

Hello Readers and Welcome Blog Friends and Authors,

.
“Media Release for “Echoes From The Oasis” a Historical Romance Novel”

“One of the many reasons why I enjoy helping authors promote all their fantastic books? Well, for one it is my passion! And, when my authors make mainstream media headlines. Great job Rosie Tirant!”

Stunning Novel Depicts Bold, Brave Women of Seychelles’ Bygone Era… Hailed “Captivating” by Critics.”

BEAU-VALLON, MAHE, SEYCHELLES, February 25, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ — Written from the heart by A.R. Tirant, ‘Echoes from the Oasis’ is the first volume in a compelling new series that thrusts readers back to the turn of the nineteenth century to explore the colourful history, religion, culture and changing role of women inhabiting the Seychelles. Tirant is herself a native of the islands, and her tale of love, faith, brevity and a deadly Smallpox epidemic goes beyond illustrating the region’s exotic beauty and natural charm to celebrate the sheer grit of the islanders of this tiny British Colony on the eve of the ‘First World War’.

While millions flock to many of the Seychelles’ 115 islands in search of sand, sea and sun, few are aware that the region’s history is boundlessly tumultuous and fascinating. In her cinematic new novel, the author manages to skilfully hold the reader’s attention as the story develops its numerous threads that set the stage for a flurry of love and passion in the midst of hardships suffered by the young community of the tiny archipelago. Her penmanship is particularly remarkable in the manner in which she paints the historical backdrop to the stage setting as she introduces the main players whose lives and passions intertwine with the historical events of that period.

‘Echoes from the Oasis’ is a cocktail of love, adversity, religious oppression and societal change – all told through the eyes of a young nurse – Anna Savy – who refuses to experience life from the sidelines. But, as with any epic work of fiction, her thirst for more comes with its fair share of challenges…

Our story opens in 1912 on the island of Mahe. The forces of newly found love between Anna, the daughter of an overseer, and Louis du Barre, the son, and heir of the landed gentry, faces the almost impossible challenge because of their backgrounds and social status, taking them on a head-on clash with all the norms and values of that period.

While the novel’s central focus is naturally on the Seychelles, the story also visits many other areas of the world, their fascinating brushes with history, and their connections with the Seychelles islands. The myth of the ‘Garden of Eden’, the siege of Khartoum and the demise of British General, Charles Gordon, is prominently featured. Through two of the main characters, the hatred and mistrust between Irish Catholics and English Protestants show’s the devastating impact of the ‘Potato Famine’ in Ireland, but it also highlights the power of forgiveness, and how we are all the same in God’s eyes.

Without doubt, no story of a colony of Great Britain, no matter how tiny, could ever be told without showing the role played by the ‘Motherland’, so we see the garrison town of Greenwich and East London, with the mighty River Thames taking prime focus, with its numerous quays docking the Steam Ships plying those rich cargo routes of the colonies, but with a slight twist, as it is two English ladies of Greenwich who shows us the real East End.

Readers have celebrated the novel, with a string of five-star reviews. Frank Alphonse comments, “This unstoppable book is a must have and a must read. The writings boast incredible characters, fantastic locations, and wonderful adventures which are all tokens of the author’s commitment to her research but also to her natural charm”. Whilst David Sinon adds, “From the minute I started reading the book, I did not want to put it down. Beautiful, well written, captured the essence of the islands”. For more readers reviews, articles, interviews, purchase links and information and picture of Seychelles, please do visit the website at www.seychelleshistoricalnovels.com ..

‘Echoes from the Oasis’, from Beau-Vallon Publishing, is available in both Kindle and Paperback.

‘About the Author’

Rosie Tirant-Longhurst, aka A.R. Tirant, was born in the Seychelles in November 1958. The daughter of a policeman and, the eldest in a family of four brothers and four sisters. She grew up on the northern coast of Mahe island, in the tiny seaside village of Beau-Vallon. Her working life started in 1975 as a nurse at Mahe’s Victoria Hospital, and followed thereafter by a career in the Hotel Industry. She emigrated to England in 1995, and now lives in West Sussex with her husband. She has two grown up sons and a granddaughter.

Rosie wasn’t born with a pen in her hand, far from it. Life growing up was hard and strict. The home comforts we all now take for granted were but a dream for the young girl whose days were divided between household chores, cooking, cleaning and looking after her young siblings. Water for all the household use had to be carried from a stream, with one hand holding a pail on her head, and the other keeping a second from spilling.

Education only happened because it was the one way of getting some rest during the daytime, even if the chores still had to be done by the light of a coconut oil lamp. They were difficult times… times when she would lean against the pillar of the outdoor kitchen waiting for dinner to cook in the large black pots, staring at the tropical skies and marveling at the diamond beauty of the scattering of stars above, and all the while wishing for a different life…

‘Echoes from the Oasis’ is her debut novel which will be followed by other titles in the same series.

“If You Want What We Have ~ A Journey Through the Twelve Steps of Recovery.”

When I was seven years old, I accompanied my mother to many twelve-step meetings and witnessed the miracle as it changed her life and mine. A few decades later the twelve-steps saved my life, my brother’s life, his wife’s life, my uncle’s life, and countless friend’s lives. After witnessing the power of the twelve-step process my family, friends, and I opened a twelve-step recovery program and retreat in The Poconos of Pennsylvania for adult men and women who suffer from addiction. Over the past two decades the thousands of miracles that I have witnessed, and lives saved are due to the twelve-step process. New Beginning Ministry in Beach Lake, PA. has been our labor of love, born out of addiction. You can find out more about New Beginning at http://www.newbeginningmin.org.
.
Helping people who suffer from addiction to get their lives back has become my life’s work; I’ve been blessed to be able to work with thousands of individuals and their families over the past few decades. There is so much wrong information about addiction recovery, and false information about the 12-steps and the different fellowships and programs; the truth is that these programs work and that they save lives! I felt it was my obligation to share what I have learned over the past 47 years about addiction recovery and the twelve-step process. I originally got clean and sober at a twelve-step retreat that was started by one of the Founders of Alcoholics Anonymous, Bill W., it was at this retreat that I started to realize that I had a calling on my life to help other sick and suffering alcoholics and substance abusers.
.
After two decades of teaching on addiction recovery and the twelve-step process, and developing my skills as a professional writer, it only made sense to combine the two and share this life-saving information with a larger audience. My mom passed on five years ago with over forty years of sobriety, and today I celebrate nineteen years!
.
My dream is to share my knowledge with as many individuals as I can during my lifetime, building an army of twelve-step professionals who can help save lives. It doesn’t matter if you are reading this book for yourself, a family member, or a dear friend; the information contained within the pages here can be life changing. I know that these steps changed and saved my life! If you want what we have; a journey through the twelve steps of recovery workbook and manual has been used successfully by numerous individuals, residential recovery programs, out-patient programs, professional recovery coaches, aftercare professionals, counselors, therapists, probation officers, ministries, recovery retreats, sponsors, sober companions, and family members.

“It works if you work it, so work it, you’re worth it!” Anonymous, they say in the rooms of recovery, if you want what we have, and are willing to go to any length to get it, you will recover. All you have to do is want it, and do the footwork.
This amazing workbook/ manual will aid you on your journey.

“I know all my readers are already wondering about this book just by the TITLE right?
It is the brand new book release by Author, Steve Hauptman and it is all about CONTROL! And how we need to just stop trying to control everything in and around our lives.”
.
And I know book bloggers and book reviewers are going to love this book and want to interview Steve as a guest author on their blogs. He has a funky kind of wit and humor about the human condition, as it shows on both his blogs and proves this fun fact right here on Monkeytraps: Were All Monkeys On This Bus . . .

This is a blog about the oldest human addiction: control.”

A Monkeytraps reader once asked me to explain what Bert — this odd gumdrop-shaped gorilla — stands for.

He stands for that part of you, too.  :-)

Steve’s Fav Quote?  “The more control you need, the less control you have.” (by me) …LOL

This book is about a problem disguised as a solution, an idea that shapes and drives us all:

  • Why everyone is addicted to control
  • How this addiction causes most — if not all — of our emotional problems
  • How to listen to feelings instead of controlling them

Filled with actionable insights you can start using today, Monkeytraps is a must-read for anyone seeking happiness, healthier relationships, and more peace of mind.

Here are a few book reviews already coming in for Steve’s fantastic book already and what they like about it. His book is available on Amazon online in both paperback and e-book!

Awareness of the issue
Format: Kindle Edition

“Steve / (Bert) really drills down to the one “addiction” we can all associate with (unless you’re in denial). Control.

Speaking for myself; I have always wanted what I want and when I wanted it. But how can we control anything? To a large extent we can’t; we’re really mostly powerless, which leads to so many of societies and individuals social, financial, sexual, etc. ….. problems.
This book will not solve these issues or your own compulsive and controlling behavior. It will, however, make you keenly aware of where humans (not monkeys) are using such behavior. Once you are aware” ………

A Mind Opener
Format: Kindle Edition

“LOVE THIS BOOK! Well written, concise and very insightful. Think anyone would benefit from reading it – and it’s very easy to read. Really glad I found Steve’s blog, and grateful he put all his thoughts together in book form. If I could, would give Monkeytraps more stars than five!!” **********

Welcome New Author~Aaron Emerson & His New Book Release

tohellandback

“We are honored to share a brand new author and his new book with all our friends and readers! Please meet Author, Aaron Emerson, and his new book release, “To Hell and Back: Heroin and Recovery” . . .his personal story.”

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
.

I was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania but have lived in Mason, Michigan since I was two. Mason is a small town outside of Lansing and is a place I have grown to love. I have a dog named Charlie that is around 11 or 12 years old and I love sports and reading. I have a girlfriend named Alison, a five-year-old daughter, and a wonderful, supportive family.

My fascination with books began about five years ago, actually. I started out reading a lot of mystery books, mainly James Patterson. I really got interested in them and now I am an avid reader. It was around that time that I started journaling, as well. I really fell in love with the ability to put my thoughts on paper and it became a positive outlet for everything I felt and thought. My interests are all Michigan sports, again, reading and all about Recovery.

A lot of people don’t understand that addiction to drugs is a disease, and the person that’s addicted turns into someone different and almost unrecognizable. Though the decisions to take drugs in the first place are usually horrible, life changing mistakes, no addict goes into experimenting with drugs thinking they would become addicted.

My addiction took me to jails, rehabs, and almost killed me several times with overdoses and accidents. I lived a life of regret, but I finally turned to God and made the decision to do whatever was necessary to get sober. It was a very long, intense, and hard journey, but I pulled through. I really hope my new book will help people not make the same decisions I made, raise awareness on addiction, and show readers that if you are alive, hope is alive, as well.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

(click book to buy on Amazon)

Aaron Emerson grew up as the son of a successful minister in Mason, Michigan. Blessed with a loving, caring family, he had the makings of a great life. At 14, however, his dad was unexpectedly fired from the church he helped build, right after the tragic passing of his cousin.

Aaron turned to marijuana and alcohol, finding pleasure in covering up the pain he was experiencing. A year later, he was introduced to prescription pills and eventually became addicted to oxycontin. Once oxycontin became too expensive and hard to find, he made the decision to switch to a cheaper, more potent drug: heroin.

Heroin would take Aaron through a life of hardcore addiction, lengthy jail stints, and several near-death experiences. After years of addiction that saw a once middle-class teenager turn into a felon and become homeless, a journey to find recovery transpired.

That journey took Aaron to several rehabs and through many heartbreaking relapses. However, recovery from his addiction was ultimately found, and now he shares his story around the state to raise awareness and spread hope.

Throughout his addiction and recovery, Aaron journaled and wrote about all of his experiences. He has now published his journal entries full of addiction, jail, rehab, overdose, relapse, and recovery. This book is the collection of all of those writings that shaped his life for several years . . . .

.
AAron Emerson
.

So, many of my readers know I just ask all my authors a few questions about them and about their writing, and here is what Aaron had to tell us.

1) How did you become a writer, and made you decide to write, publish, and share your testimony of addiction and recovery in written form?
“About four or five months into my recovery from addiction, I got an overwhelming desire to share my story with people. I have always loved writing so I came up with the idea to start a recovery blog. The main goal in all of this was to simply let others know that recovery from addiction is a reality and a possibility. I wanted to spread hope and raise awareness. People seemed to get a lot out of it so I have been doing it ever since.”

2) What do YOU think is the most important “Skill or Tool” that aids you in recovery?
“I think my most important skill or trait in recovery is my ability to lean on my support system. That was so crucial when I first got sober and I’m certain that without my recovery coach, my family, and my girlfriend, I would not be sober today. I also was heavily involved in 12-Step groups. I still do all of those today, but in early recovery, support groups and my support system were pretty much my whole life. Being able to open up and know when and how to ask for help was vital.”

3) Now I know you are a brand new Author, has there been one thing you can share exciting that has happened to you as an Author?
“Yes, I am a very new author. “To Hell And Back” is my first book and it has definitely been the most exciting thing to happen in my writing career. However, getting a significant amount of positive feedback on my blog has been the next best thing. It really makes my day to read, or hear someone tell me that they got something out of my posts.”

4) And lastly, what ONE word in ‘recovery terms’ is your Favorite to use?
“I’m not sure if this will technically count as a “recovery term,” but the phrase ~ “let go and let God” has always inspired me. Leaning on God throughout my recovery has been overwhelmingly comforting. Hearing or seeing that phrase always reminds me that, no matter what, things will be okay if I just let God take over my life.”

“Lizzie, a small-town waitress, thought she’d finally met her prince charming in Dr. Grant Chatsworth. She was young and in love, and the quick courtship ended with the four-carat diamond engagement ring of her dreams.”

Now residing in one of Buckhead’s finest estates, Lizzie soon learns all that glitters is not gold. Her handsome husband, renowned cardiac surgeon, and developer of a new congestive heart failure drug was becoming cruel and controlling. Lizzie finds herself captive in the vast expanse of his estate without a phone or a car, and under the watchful eye of Flossie.  When Lizzie discovers that her husband’s drug development company is a Ponzi scheme, she realizes that her life could be in danger if she doesn’t somehow escape the gated mansion on the hill.

With her parents deceased, her only hope is to get to Biloxi, Mississippi and seek refuge with her sister, Maggie. Maggie and her husband Leland quickly find a safe harbor for Lizzie in a house on the bayou. However, the house at the end of the street might not be the quiet retreat Lizzie was hoping for.

The confines of her hideaway soon get to Lizzie so she begins sneaking out in the middle of the night to walk in the historical cemetery next door. One night a damaged, carved lamb on top of the tombstone of a small child catches her eye, and the story of the child immediately captures her heart. Just when Lizzie Chatsworth thinks her world can’t get any more complicated, she finds herself in the middle of a mystery from the 1800’s that is pulling her in and demanding she seek justice.

As her husband’s empire begins to crumble, he’s more determined than ever to find Lizzie and kill her. But, will the mystery of Baby Belle’s death end Lizzie’s life first?

1.) When did you start writing? And how did you come to be a writer and publish your work?
I’ve always been an avid reader but an illness in 1999 made me homebound. It was then that I started writing for therapy more than anything. Years later, family and friends encouraged me to pursue publication.

2.) What type of career did you have before becoming a published author?
“I worked in many capacities in county government, but lastly in grant writing before my illness.”

3.) Do you have a favorite writer or author that inspires you as a writer?
“Most definitely, Sue Grafton.  She is a great mystery writer but also injects so much humor. You feel as though you know her characters personally.”

4.) Since you have a great reader following of your mysteries, what can you tell your readers about yourself that they may not know about you?
“Oh my goodness, I think the most important thing for them to know about me is how humbled I am to have them read my work.  I never take for granted anyone’s time or the money they’ve spent purchasing a book.  There are so many wonderful writers out there and the fact that they choose to read my novels is quite astounding.

“I have read all of Kim Carter’s books and this one is my favorite by far! Within the first few chapters, I was completely sucked in – I could not put the book down! The book was suspenseful, at times funny, and overall a great read. The book reads fairly fast thanks to the short chapters, which motivate me to keep reading. I was constantly surprised by the plot’s twists and turns… even ’til the end. I fully recommend this book – you won’t believe how it ends. I can’t wait for the next release.”  Highly suggest this mystery!
