We are all in for a very special treat today, as I have the Honor and Welcome a prolific writer, and award-winning Author, Clancy Tucker. Now one of my favorite things about being a book promoter is, besides getting to read great books of my clients, I get to meet so many wonderful talented authors and writers, and Clancy fits right into this category! We met a short time ago as he inquired about my book promoting services. But he really didn’t need me, OH NO, he needed a real literary agent or publicist, as he has many awesome award-winning short stories and many books under his belt. How about to the tune of 90 short stories, and several published books. WOW!

Also, the book buzz I’m hearing on the literary streets about Clancy? Well,  as a gifted writer and published author, he is SO good that his books and stories should be made into featured films! Well, that’s what I’m hearing on the street anyway…LOL.

About The Author:

Clancy Tucker is an award-winning author with three awards in the Australian National Literary Awards. He writes young adult fiction for reluctant readers, but has also achieved success as a poet and photographer. Clancy has lived in four countries, speaks three languages, has photography accepted and published in books in the USA, Australia and the UK (Innocent Dreams, Endless Journeys & A Trip Down Memory Lane), used as covers for magazines (‘The Australian Writer’ – 2008 and ‘Victorian Writer’ – 2008), has work registered with the International Library of Photography, been published in literary magazines and he’s written more than 146 short stories and swags of poetry.

Clancy’s been short-listed, ‘Commended’ and ‘Highly Commended’ in writing contests: 2006, 2007& 2011 Australian National Literary Awards, Raspberry & Vine (twice), Positive words, Australian Writers On-Line, Shaggy Sheep Tale, The Cancer Council Arts Awards (2005 & 2008), The Dusty Swag Awards (2010) and had twelve short stories published in literary magazines (Page Seventeen, Branching Out, Positive Words and The Australian Writer), newspapers (The Standard, Mountain Views & The Advocate), written articles for Kid Magazine in the USA and won a poetry prize to name a life-size statue designed by renowned Belgian sculptor, Bruno Torfs.

He is a full-time writer but has been a speechwriter, public servant, farmer and small business operator. Clancy teaches students at the University of the Third Age (U3A), has worked with street kids and draws on life’s experiences to write entertaining stories for kids.

‘Gunnedah Hero’ has been published as a paperback and also in e-Book format via www.morrispublishingaustralia.com This book has won two of three awards he has claimed in the Australian National Literary Awards: ‘Highly Commended’ in the FAW Jim Hamilton Award – 2007 and ‘Commended’ in the Christina Stead Award – 2011. Now as my readers know, I only ask 2 questions of all my author friends when I spotlight them here on my blog. So here are the 2 questions I asked of Clancy, and the answers he kindly shared with me.

1.) What do you enjoy most about being a writer and published author?

Mm … Interesting question, because it is a lot of hard work. I guess the biggest enjoyment is the challenge. Having been a fulltime author for more than 16 years, I’ve learnt heaps about the entire industry. However, as a self-published author, one has to learn about technical things, and how to achieve them: ISBN numbers, book cover design, fonts, paper etc.
Thus, it is very satisfying when it all comes together in the shape of a book. I’m also a photographer, so I use my own photographs for my covers. As a daily blogger who features guests from around the world, I’ve managed to hook up with some amazing people. We support each other and promote our own work. The absolute enjoyment as a writer is to write a story, involving characters that I have invented. However, no matter what you write, we as authors must wait for reviews from those who have read our work. They are the real judges.

2.) Now that you have won many awards for your craft of writing, what is the one amazing thing that has happened to you as an author?
.
Mm … Another tricky question. I guess the big plus for me is that I find writing so easy. It is an adrenalin rush; from start to finish. I don’t plan any story. No, I have an idea and run with it. Then, when finished, it is a buzz to read the entire document and learn how cleverly, or otherwise, I’ve tried to keep the interest of my readers.
Sometimes, it is so easy to slip up and tell the reader too much too early.The secret is to keep them on their toes, flipping pages to find out what happens next. I guess writing is a gift. If you’ve got it, use it!

The Akan House Of Mystery:

Don’t be fooled by the title. “The Akan House of Mystery” by George B. Streetor is not a mystery novel, but rather a detailed historical account of the Akan people, who are an important ethnic group of West Africa (mostly Ghana and the Ivory Coast) and comprise over twenty million people.

The book is divided into three main parts and also has a preface that highlights the author’s dedication to homatherapy (the process of healing the atmosphere through the agency of fire in a copper pyramid tuned to the rhythm of the sunrise/sunset).

The Introduction serves as a primer to acquaint the reader with the Akan people and their language, culture, society, and traditions. Of particular interest is the fact that the Akan people follow matrilineal rules of ancestry and inheritance, and, therefore, women are highly regarded in Akan culture. Throughout history, they served as powerful rulers (queens), orators, and decision-makers. When a new king was to be chosen, it was the queen mother or the elder woman in the family who nominated a male royal for the kingship.

Part I of the book describes the various Akan tribes in Ghana and the Ivory Coast, and the strife and civil wars that ensued among them.

The story of Nana Abena Pokua (the first Asante warrior queen under the Asante confederacy) is also told in great detail and describes her courageous rebellion, tragic act of sacrifice, and emigration to the Ivory Coast, where she founded the Baoule Kingdom in 1720 and reigned for thirty years. To this day, she is revered for her courage, bravery and selflessness, and a statue in her honour stands in the centre of Abidjan, the economic capital of the Ivory Coast.

Other interesting stories told include that of the first president of the Ivory Coast (Houphouet Boigny), who secured independence for the country in 1960, and the history of the state of New Juaben in the eastern region of Ghana.

Part II of the book is an intriguing tale of family, betrayal, destiny, and mysticism. It revolves around the children of Yaa Akyaa (an Akan woman from Koforidua), particularly her daughter Yaa Daben who was conceived under strange circumstances. Yaa Daben’s story unfolds in typical Akan fashion with a traditional marriage, the birth of two children, and life according to Akan custom. The story then takes a spiritual turn when Yaa Daben’s son Marfo dies mysteriously while in the army. His death is considered suspicious and what unfolds is a tale of intrigue, ghosts, and witchcraft. The story leads into present day and describes some of the descendants of Yaa Akyaa (and Yaa Daben) who are still alive today.

“The Akan House of Mystery” is part history, part fable. It is a noble attempt to highlight the accomplishments of the Akan people through loosely interwoven stories of Akan historical events, significant persons, traditions, fables, and modern-day events. Some social commentary is also sprinkled throughout the book to bring awareness to modern-day issues in Africa.

All in all, the book is a fascinating read even though some of the stories and events are not always presented in chronological order or coherently linked together. However, the impeccable storytelling is spellbinding, especially in Part II of the book, which draws you in wanting more and more.

Hannah Warren was born in Paris (Fr.) in 1956 as a second child to a Dutch father and an English mother. She has lived in The Netherlands almost all her life but has a strong connection with France, UK and Holland.She studied Dutch literature and Mass communication at the University of Amsterdam and also obtained a B.A. in English Literature & Language and a B.A. in Translation from Rotterdam University. My Book Review for Psychic Confessions . . .
“Just Fantastic”!

Hannah has done a fantastic job with her new novel series, Book 1 of Psychic Confessions.

This read has everything you’d want in a suspense thriller. It deals with a families past pains, mental stability, dark secrets, mysteries, and much more. There is murder, mystery, intrigue through out each page of this wonderful storyline which spans 6 decades as Jenna reveals.

When you don’t think you can take anymore heart-break, or take more emotional turmoil of the revelations Jenna stumble upon, more storyline past haunts melt into Jenna’s present. When she begins to have memories of her mother’s death by suicide, and she ends up in an orphanage at age three, and her life starts to take off from there. But Jenna’s own life becomes pulled apart, her adopted brother Vincent, and Jenna’s psychiatrist, a good friend take her away to a cottage to try and help her recovery from her own brush with death, and attempted suicide.

Now even though this book is a work of fiction, many who know me know I battle my own real life mental and emotional health conditions, so this book really spoke to me. I could feel the pain Jenna was going through, and that is when you know a writer is very special like Hannah Warren. And even though again it’s fiction, some of this storyline collided with my real life past emotional haunts. That is why I was hooked from the beginning to the last page of this fantastic read!

You have done a wonderful job with book one of this new novel series! I truly can not wait for the next book of this series to come out. And as the book blurb details:,

Rosie has done a fine job in promoting her new novel where she had been born and raised, which in opinion, is one of the most beautiful places on earth, The Seychelles Islands.

Not only has Rosie written a beautiful fiction romance, she also shares many of the traditions, ways, and cultures of this beautiful part of the world. And the about a young woman, Anna who blossoms when she finds love. Even one of Rosie’s written characters has my first name, Catherine. Now that made me feel special. But I’m pretty confident that was well planned in her book before we had ever met.

I also have to warn you about this read, when you start reading Rosie’s book, be prepared to have a few late nights as I did. One night I didn’t turn out my reading lamp until almost 2 am. Now that’s a great read! I was so drenched into this storyline, the well written historical sites tells me the author did some research. But then again, when your born and raised where your storyline takes place, it is the past historical background Rosie really shines. She has a wonderful writing style I enjoyed as well.
That’s why I gave this beautiful read a 5 Stars! It truly is worth your time to purchase and read . . .

Rosie Tirant-Longhurst, aka A.R. Tirant, was born in the Seychelles in November 1958, the daughter of a policeman and the eldest in a family of four brothers and four sisters. She grew up on the northern coast of Mahe island, in the tiny seaside village of Beau-Vallon. Her working life started in 1975 as a nurse at Mahe’s Victoria Hospital, followed thereafter by a career in the Hotel Industry. She emigrated to England in 1995 and now lives in West Sussex with her husband. She has two grown-up sons and a granddaughter.

Rosie wasn’t born with a pen in her hand, far from it. Life growing up was hard and strict. The home comforts we all now take for granted were but a dream for the young girl whose days were divided between household chores, cooking, cleaning and looking after her young siblings. Water for all the household use had to be carried from a stream, with one hand holding a pail on her head, and the other keeping a second pail from spilling.

Education only happened because it was the one way of getting some rest during the daytime, even if the chores still had to be done by the light of a coconut oil lamp. They were difficult times… times when she would lean against the pillar of the outdoor kitchen waiting for dinner to cook in the large black pots, staring at the tropical skies and marvelling at the diamond beauty of the scattering of stars above, and all the while wishing for a different life…

‘Echoes from the Oasis’ is her debut novel which will be followed by other titles in the same series.
