It Is Book Review Extravaganza Day at “Lyon Book Promotions!”
Hello Friends, Readers and Welcome All,
So I had gotten a wee bit behind in my reading, as I has a few new book promo clients just sign up for my book & social media services. I just finished reading 3 new fabulous books, and listened to a new fantastic poetry CD by some new writers that I think you as readers will really enjoy. So I thought I would do something a little different, and share a little review of each book I have just read. I will still have them up on my Book Reviews page, but they were all so good I thought I’d share them here first.
So here we GO!
.
#1 By, Author, D. J. Burr ~ “I Just Wanted Love: Recovery of a Co-dependent, Sex, Love Addict”
Kindle Edition
.
Book Blurb:
D.J. Burr is a man on a mission; successful business owner, highly respected psychotherapists and survivor of a dysfunctional life. At a young age, all he wanted was to be loved, but instead found himself targeted by a sexual predator. D.J. slipped into a life of addiction and clawed his way through broken relationships and seedy sex clubs–looking for love in all the wrong places. D.J. will take readers on a roller coaster of emotions as he details his search for grace and love.
.
My Book Review: 5 Stars!
.
A Hearts Journey of Recovery, . . . What an excellent read. Being brave to share ones story in a way that those in recovery or not can understand, learn, and have compassion is exactly what this Author was able to accomplish with his book. Being in recovery over 8 1/2 years myself, I know the struggles we go through to recover. And also being a recovery writer and author myself, I know how difficult it is to write what many of us go through with any addiction, let alone a sex addiction and more. And a man sharing his story is not your usual find.
Reading D.J.’s story has touched me deeply. I to could relate to family and friends who turn away, and even though our addictions are different, I to spent years just looking to be loved unconditionally, and had many bad relationships, forced ones, ones with men who mistreated me, just because I wanted SOMEONE, ANYONE in my life. But then having that intense need for sex, and thinking it will fill those empty holes in our lives must have been hard to go through. Let alone the health risks as well.
Many 12 Step Recovery Programs tell us we can recover without having to know the WHY’S of us turning to addiction in the first place. Well, this book proves that many of us do find the underlying issues, and past childhood trauma and being raised like I was in a dysfunctional life can effect many of us. Just an exceptional read! I’m patiently waiting for BOOK 2!
.
#2 by Author, Rachelle Du Bois ~ “Eve Vermont, Oak Series, Book 1”
Eve Vermont: Oak Series Book 1
Kindle Edition
.
My Review: 5 Stars: A Delightful & Interesting Romance Read!
.
If you enjoy a good romance read? Then this book by Author, Rachelle Du Bois ~ Eve Vermont, Oak Series book 1 is a Must Read! The story was beautifully written, characters well performed in prose, and even though this is a work of fiction, I could feel for Eve when overcoming tragedy. Not very many fiction books can do that. Many of us like Eve feel we have no hope or future at times in our own life journey. But when love gets involved, hopeless or not, love will Triumph over Tragedy!
.
Just a wonderful romance read. Rachelle brought Eve’s story to light, and the characters in this story line. Love can triumph if you keep your heart open.
#3 By Author, Christine Campbell on Smashwords ~ “With Vigilance A Women in long-term Recovery.”
.
http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/442608
Book Blurb:
You are invited to read my memoirs, With Vigilance, a woman of long-term recovery. Someone told me my story is the key that can unlock someone else’s prison. The slow, painful path back to becoming a functioning member of society, seeking employment, unlearning many messages, took much time, and many stumbles. The gifts and promises are shared along the way as well. I take an honest look at the low bottom of using, the many rehabs, the total lack of family support, and the celebrated 22 years of recovery while finishing my Master degree, Previous books on addiction glamorize and dwell mostly on the insanity of addiction and alcoholism. Freedom from the bondage of self takes time, patience and willingness. Long term sobriety takes work, doing what your told, especially when you don’t understand why.
My Review ~ 5 Stars!
WOW!
What a story and life of addiction and triumph in recovery! I could so relate to Christine, her raw honest look into ones life after such damage and devastation, her story and inspirational recovery journey is going to ‘touch and save’ many lives.
It can be difficult to write about ones bad life choices we make within our disease, but Christine has proved sharing her own story, that no matter how “Hopeless” we can be within addictions? We can Recover if your willing to do the work, as I call it, . . “The inside Job” within ourselves to fix, change, and make amends to others, but importantly to yourself.
I would highly recommend this book for all to read, not just those in recovery, but for non-recovery people as well. They will get the understanding of how hard it is to recover. Especially when we have no family who don’t support us. I was very inspired by this book. . . .Great Job and well written Christine!
#4 By, Author Ellie Pulikonda ~ “Split Second”
.
.
When do a family’s secrets become too dangerous to keep? Find out in Ellie Pulikonda’s shocking debut novel, Split Second.Richard Reynolds, a successful attorney and wannabe politician, has spent years cultivating the perfect image—which includes his trophy wife, Deborah, and talented teenage daughter, Liz.But Liz threatens to ruin it all after severe depression forces her out of college and back home. After she attempts suicide, Richard rushes her off to a private hospital in hopes that the drama will soon blow over.
.
Run by Nick Jensen, the hospital seems to be exactly what Liz needs. But soon Nick uncovers some disquieting facts, like the fact that Liz’s depression arose at the exact same time that a classmate was presumed murdered. Liz’s uncanny knowledge of the crime’s details only deepens Nick’s unease. As Liz attempts to heal, her parents’ marriage begins to crack in light of mutually held secrets coming to the surface. What is the Reynolds family hiding?
My Book Review ~ 5 Stars!
For a first time Author, Ellie has come out of the literary gates with a fantastic family mystery/psychological thriller! Most times as you follow a storyline closely, your able to figure the “Who Done IT,” but not this read, which holds your attention from the first page to the last!
The plot and the characters are well written into a family drama that looks at many issues including mental illness. Something I battle myself. So the storyline was relatable and powerful. I found Ellie’s writing style very unique for a mystery writer, an exceptional read for those who enjoy this genre. I highly recommend Split Second to all readers! Another 5 Star Read . . .
So there you have it. My last 4 new books I have read and my fabulous reviews for each. Even though I am a Book & Social Media Promoter? I’m still a lover of good reads too! I hope you grab a copy of each of these fantastic reads by Fabulous Authors!
Until Next Time Readers!

How Online Coverage Can Lift Your Promotional Efforts To New Heights
There’s a point of view I still hear on occasion from prospective clients.
They have little to no interest in exposure in online publications, have a website or blog. Instead, they still view the traditional print world of newspapers, magazines and trade publications as more valuable turf for promoting themselves, their books or their companies.
I guess there’s just something about holding the printed word in your hands that continues to resonate with people. It has actual texture. It has actual weight. It just seems more substantial, so surely it must be.
Hey, I understand. I’m something of an ink-on-paper kind of person myself. I can’t even imagine starting my day without my coffee in one hand and newspaper in the other.
But our reverence for the old-fashioned way of reading shouldn’t color our attitudes about just how valuable online articles can be.
Let me share a few reasons why online coverage has more heft than you might realize.
- Staying power. An article on the printed page is valuable today, but it’s gone tomorrow. Most people toss their newspapers in the recycling bin or otherwise discard them. You can clip the article out and have it framed, prominently displaying it in your office. And there’s nothing wrong with that. I do it, too, and there certainly is value to a “wall of fame” that clients see when they drop by. But that’s a limited audience. An online article, on the other hand, could still be floating around on the Internet weeks, months or even years later, easily accessible to anyone. Now, granted, it probably won’t be there forever. That’s why I always recommend that my clients keep a screen grab of any article that features them.
.
Ease of sharing. When you are featured in an online article, sharing it with others is a snap. You can email all your customers or clients a link. You can put a link on your website, too. Perhaps more importantly, you can share the article on social media. That not only promotes you, but also promotes the online publication, which they will appreciate. Also, if more people visit the publication’s site because of an article you wrote or were quoted in, they are likely to ask you back, resulting in even more visibility for you.
.- Potential reach. The traditional newspaper tossed on your driveway each morning might still be appealing, but these days a large chunk of the population goes online for news. Just look at a couple of major newspapers and how their print circulation numbers compare to the online reach. The venerable New York Times has a daily print circulation of 2.2 million. But a whopping 63 million people visit the Times’ website each month. USA Today has a daily print circulation of 3.2 million. That number pales in comparison to the 26.2 million people who visit the newspaper’s online version each month. You can find similar numbers for many publications across the country. The online visitors almost always will outnumber those who read the print alternative.
.
- The serendipity of online searches. In addition to reaching people actively seeking out specific publications online, the digital articles that feature you could end up on the screens of people who are simply searching for information on a particular topic. Google “how to plan for retirement,” such as, and you will discover numerous articles written by or with quotes from financial advisors all over the country.
.
- The sway of “authority sites.” If you’re lucky enough to be featured, along with your website, on what Google calls an “authority site,” your website will get a big boost when people do Google searches. “Authority sites” are the high-quality sites that Google trusts, including many news websites. If you’re quoted in USA Today, for example, and the article includes your website, a backlink to the USA Today site is created. That backlink provides incredible value to your SEO effort and will influence your website’s page ranking.
.
None of this is to belittle the power of traditional print. But online coverage is equally as powerful, so go harness that to improve your book promoting efforts!
*Marsha* PR Insider.
.I hope this article was helpful. We as authors need to understand that ‘self-publishing has opened the market to many fabulous authors and now we have more access as writers to share our craft. When you visit Marsha’s website? Do a Press Release about your book while your there! It to is another powerful way to get your books to new readers! I hope you will share this with your all your author friends and as always, until next time author friends,.

I Welcome Artist & Poet Sarah Beth Wheeler To Lyon Promotions
Today we are in for a little something different. As many know I live life in recovery from addiction for over 8 years. It’s what my first book is about. It is my memoir and story of overcoming and triumph. Well my guest today is a beautiful poet and singer as well. She has her debut CD release, and it is so moving and her story set to poetry with music undertones. It is a listening experience” that will touch you deeply, especially if you are in recovery. And you’ll go on a deep journey of one woman’s life story if your not.
So please meet my friend Sarah Beth Wheeler, and her CD titled;
“The Unforgivable Ghetto” . . . .
Now available on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Unforgivable-Ghetto-Sarah-Beth-Wheeler/dp/B00TMM7MHQ
I know I tell you this all the time, but God seems to bring many people into my life at just the right moments, and he also sends me those who are ‘gifted and talented’ as my guest and friend Sarah Beth Wheeler is! So I’m sharing her with all of you. Her CD for me is a new concept of sharing ones recovery and life journey. She has put together her life & recovery journey to honest, raw, and at times intense listening experience. So who is this beautiful woman, and may add a devoted Christian.
About The CD:
“Through expression of poetry and words God has gifted me a voice. By healing trauma through Art and God, I seek to use that voice to help heal others.”
~Sarah Beth Wheeler~
“The Unforgivable Ghetto, is a CD of 11 tracks of poetry I have written and vocally perform. Each track is underscored with the amazing musical composition of Thomas Arsenault. Each poem on this CD is an expression through my art that tells the true story of my life. It is the story of a girl who grew up scared, lonely, abused and angry. It is also the story of a girl who met God. And it was through His power my “Ghetto” became a masterpiece.”
This CD is intense, deep, beautiful, and real. I hold nothing back. I did this project with a very deep prayer. That anyone, anywhere, who has ever tasted this type of pain, can know that they are not alone. That perhaps, my voice and words can pierce into that dark place and speak of the One who created US. For, God can and will turn each of our own ” Ghettos.”
Go take a sample listen to 2 tracks right here:

About The Poet & Artist:
So, where do I begin to share all that Sarah has accomplished! Here is just a little of her background and more about her.
“Come take a journey with me to my ghetto and travel with me all the way to a place where God heals wounds and shines His light brightly.” ~Sarah~
The 11 tracks of poetry that I have written and vocally performed. Each poem is accompanied with the original musical underscore as inspired by Tom Arsenault.
This CD is a true story of a girl growing up in poverty, trauma, and child abuse. This CD gives a voice to that young girl. Also on this CD you will hear the voice of that same young girl who has been healed and transformed by the power of a very loving God. The purpose of this CD is to carry a message to those who have also experienced a similar walk to let them know they are not alone and that there is hope for a brighter future.

Sarah Beth has had 3 poems published various poetry chapbooks. What is a Chapbook you ask?
A chapbook is a small collection of poetry, generally no more than 40 pages, that often centers on a specific theme, such as exotic foods or wild animals or Justin Bieber. It’s typically saddle-stitched (like a pamphlet or magazine) and is a format well suited to smaller print-runs. Poets publish chapbooks instead of full-length books of poetry for a number of reasons, but perhaps the most common is that chapbooks are relatively inexpensive to produce. In fact, many poets take the DIY approach and print their chapbooks themselves. Here are Sarah’s three.

So in closing, I’d like to share my own Amazon CD Review I gave my dear friend Sarah! Listening to her CD now several times, she was very true about her poetry will, “take you to some places you may not want to go, but just flow spiritually with it.” And that was what It did.
The beauty in her words, even the words that may stir your past within addiction? It is a journey you will closely relate to if you live your life in recovery from addictions, or may have a hurtful past you have endured like her and both had to overcome with our Faith & deep belief in Jesus Christ as our guiding light. Here is the review I placed for her on Amazon Music for her fantastic CD!
5 Stars ***** “Just WOW! ” A Fantastic Piece of Art in Poetry!
By Author, Catherine Lyon on April 5, 2015
“Just Wow!”
I was happy to receive this CD as a gift, and I can tell you I have never heard poetry read along with undertones of music with such powerful words of prose. Sarah Wheeler is on to something very new, and interesting with her beautiful but powerful poetry set in this way. Being a woman in long-term recovery myself from addictions, I was taken back to some of those dark days, days that we in recovery need to be reminded of as to NOT get complacent on our recovery journey.”
.
“This is a great recovery tool. Listening to her beautiful voice as well on the only song on this CD is a delight! And Sarah is very talented & gifted. It’s refreshing to see and hear ‘God’s Gift’ to someone not wasted on our “POP CULTURE SOCIETY,” but to something meaningful that will ‘touch’ many hearts, give those in recovery courage from her exceptional words of deep poetry, as Sarah shares all she has been through starting as a little girl. Things done & seen NO little should have too! I was able to relate. I hope Sarah release’s more Spiritual and Helpful Poetry CD’s like this soon! I will be FIRST in LINE to buy it!”
So I want to thank Sarah Beth for letting me share all about her and her poetry with all my recovery friends, readers, and blog supporters who visit me here. I told Sarah I believe we may have been past kindred spirits. And I thank God and his son Jesus Christ for bringing her into my LIFE! I know we are going to be long, long time friends.
Do yourself a huge favor and treat yourself & your recovery with a purchase today of this fantastic CD today. Until next time friends.
May God Bless you all,

What Is The Driving Force That Made You Want To Become A Writer?
Celebrating 100 Issues With A 100 Days Writing Challenge!
By Michaela Zanello
Today marks the 100th edition of the Be A Bestseller Inbox Magazine—time to break out the bubbly! It’s been a fabulous and insightful journey thus far, and I am proud to have joined Jen early in the process as she continues to build this wonderful community of writers, authors, and entrepreneurs.
Over the past 100 issues, we’ve met some amazing authors, some of whom are award winners, others have started their own publishing companies, and others still are using their unique voices to elevate their author brands and make a difference in the world.
We have also featured numerous great products and resources and had several talented writers inform and inspire us with their guest posts—writers including Dr. Morgan Giddings, Sara Hathaway, Sandra Beckwith, Dennis De Rose, Angela B. Chrysler, and Ara Grigorian.
And from pen names to podcasts, we have covered a whole slew of interesting topics in our Big Ideas.
Today, in honor of Be A Bestseller’s 100th issue, I am posing a writing challenge, one which involves starting a book from scratch and completing it along with a marketing plan in 100 days.
Meaning by June 28, 2015—100 days from today—anyone who chooses to participate will have a brand new book written and published; plus, they will have a marketing plan ready to implement. And the book can be any genre—fiction, non-fiction, memoir, a children’s book, or a collection of poems or essays.
What do you think, are you game?
100 Days Writing Challenge
The challenge will largely be up to your own scheduling and creativity. But here are a few basic tips and suggestions to get you on the right path.
What to Write
Your brain may already be teeming with brilliant ideas for what you want your book to be about. But if “On your mark, get set, WRITE!” doesn’t exactly get your creativity charging from the gates, here are 3 writing prompts you can use to help you get inspired.
Prompt #1: Location, location, location
Start by picking a scene, any scene—it could even be the room from where you are writing—and simply describe it in as much detail as possible. Be sure to include elements that capture the mood and tone as well.
Prompt #2: T.V. time
As you are watching television, take note of any interesting commercials. Then, craft a short work of fiction based on the commercial’s character dynamics and narrative. Choose one of the commercial’s characters and write from his or her perspective.
Prompt #3: Café eavesdropping
Go and sit in a nearby coffee shop. Write down everything you see, smell, and hear—from the busy barista, to the scent of java in the air, to the bits and pieces of dialogue you overhear—write it all down and try to pick up on patterns and anything that surprises you.
Character Development and Outlining
After you’ve got an idea of what you want your story to be about, it’s time to flesh your characters out and create an outline.
Basically, you want to learn as much as possible about your characters—from what they look like, to what their hopes, dreams, goals, and biggest fears entail.
TIP: Whenever I’m working on character development, I like to have my characters take the Myers-Briggs Personality Profiling test. The test helps discern things like how my characters view the world, how they interact with other people, and what their approach to problem-solving would be.
Next, it’s time to create an outline, which can eventually turn into your book’s table of contents. Break up your book into chapters and write a brief description of what is going to happen in each chapter.
TIP: You should know what your book’s ending is going to be before you start to write, because knowing your final destination makes it less likely to veer off course.
Make a Schedule
The challenge is set for 100 days, so it’s a good idea to reverse engineer that timeline. Depending on how long you expect your book to be, figure out how many days or weeks you have to write each chapter. For example, if you expect your book to have 10 chapters, you would have 10 days to write each chapter.
NOTE: You will also need to factor in time for editing, a final read through, getting your book’s cover designed, and creating an overview of your marketing plan.
Make a schedule that works for you, but hold yourself accountable. If you set a goal to write one chapter a week, then hold yourself to it. Check out the Write or Die app to help make sure you follow through on your goals.
No excuses allowed. You’re makin’ it happen.
So, what do you say, are you going to take the 100 Days Writing Challenge? Let us know on the Be A Bestseller Facebook fan page and definitely give us a shout on June 28th too, once you’ve finished your book! We’ll check in with you closer to then. ;)
Happy 100th, BAB! And remember: Voice mattes. Dare to share yours. Impact the world.

This week’s Makin’ It Happen author is bestselling science fiction/fantasy writer and self-publishing guru Chris Kennedy.
A fiction writer and elementary school principal turned publisher, Chris teaches students and aspiring authors how to become accomplished writers by honing their skills, inspiring their creative processes, and sharing his insider’s perspective on the world of self-publishing.
Chris traveled a non-traditional path to becoming an author, proving there is no “right” way to get there. A naval officer for 20 years and then an elementary school principal for another 5 years, Chris finally tried his hand at writing while working as an instructional systems designer for the U.S. Navy.
Unable to find an agent to take him on, he chose to self-publish his first book Red Tide: The Chinese Invasion of Seattle, and he hasn’t looked back since.
To date, Chris has written 6 fiction novels. His first 2 books were the military fiction duology called Red Tide: The Chinese Invasion of Seattle and Occupied Seattle, which he followed with “The Theogony” science fiction trilogy: Janissaries, When the Gods Aren’t Gods, and Terra Stands Alone. His sixth novel is Can’t Look Back, which is the first installment of a new, epic fantasy trilogy.
Chris used the experience he gained publishing these books to write his non-fiction book Self-Publishing for Profit: How to Get the Book Out of Your Head and Into the Stores.
Additionally, after having seen the latest version of the Nation’s Report Card, which indicated that only 27% of American 8th and 12th grade students can write at a level of “proficient” or better, Chris developed a program called “Total Engagement: Giving Young Authors a Voice,” which he is now working with schools to implement.
Chris’ program brings published authors into schools as a way of encouraging students to write more and sharpening their literacy skills. By developing and publishing classroom anthologies, Chris gets students excited about writing by enabling them to include “published author” on their college applications.
You can earn more about Chris and his work at:
