Wishing You All A Very Merry & Blessed Christmas With A Guest Poem Of HOPE

Hello and Merry Christmas Readers, Clients and Friends,

.

A very special guest poet and beautiful Christmas Poem by, Keith Garrett.
I wanted to share it here with all who visit, so you can “Feel The HOPE” that I felt when I read this very special poem. . . .

.

.
“CHRISTMAS DREAMS” . . .
b
y,  Keith Garrett Poetry

I Imagined I was awake and this aging world had changed,

Asleep and dreaming was this man, listen to what is seen.

Just suppose all mankind was with peace, my mind sees,

No wars to conquer, not a child would have to die.

Anger and hatred put aside, not a bomb to drop on any side,

All home for Christmas, loved ones together everywhere.

No colors of difference, all are of human flesh and blood,

Violence and crime are a thing of the past, do you see.

As I sleep, watch me while I dream, Imagine,

Hand in hand across the land, give of yourself what you can.

Evil and corruption destroyed from above, dream with me,

Christmas dreams live inside many a heart, love conquers.

The world holds much beauty but covered with doubt and fear,

My dreams are told, did you listen with an ear, did you see,

Pray for mankind, share in my Christmas dreams.

“A not-so-silent thief makes off with $226 billion, every year, robbing the economy, flooding hospitals, clogging courts. And landing million-dollar spots in the year’s biggest televised sports events.“It” is alcohol. Not terrorism. Not obesity. Not cancer or diabetes or Ebola or any other disease. It’s alcohol. We’ll spend more to combat these other scourges that cause less turmoil and financial damage while alcohol rules the roost, the clubhouse and the corner office.

The third-leading cause of preventable death and illness stays under the radar because of good advertising and bad stigma. Its purveyors are proclaimed as charitable kings. Those who use it and discover alcohol has health and social consequences, are labeled as villains, kill-joys, weak, weird, or morally off.

The stigma of alcohol use disorders, treatment and recovery keeps the discussion of what alcohol does to you behind the wishful-thinking-driven chatter about what it does for you. The tipping point has passed. The status quo: No longer sustainable or acceptable.

Adding Fire to the Fuel examines:
How families and communities feed public and self-stigma even while the stigma holds them back; How stigma has become a barrier to many who want help; How to hang on to sobriety in a pro-alcohol world; And how PANonymous alcoholics will reduce stigma more than all the protests combined.”

About The Book ~ Silver Lining

Nine out of ten people who quit drinking relapse at least once. “Every
Silver Lining Has a Cloud” shows why it’s not just once… without
pithy slogans or trademarked solutions. From the author of “What
the Early Worm Gets,” a startling book defining Alcoholism, here’s a
book explaining how and why relapse happens, how to hold it at bay
and why every American should care. Sobriety is a state of illness and
its symptoms, left untreated, lead directly to lapse. Addressing the
Symptoms of Sobriety is essential.
.
Why would any sober Alcoholic return to the misery?
What are the Symptoms of Sobriety and how do Alcoholics and non-Alcoholics guard against them?
What four overlooked stressors trip up recovery?
Can you hit bottom sober?
The narrative dashes along peaks of anger, joy, desperation, relief and
hope interspersed with solid data on the disease and guidance for
avoiding relapse traps.
It’s not enough to just stop drinking. . .

Now that I have shared just about all you need to know about this fantastic writer and author?
Here are a few Amazon Book Reviews of how much readers have enjoyed about Scott’s books.

Amazon Reader Reviews:

Scott Steven’s extremely readable “Every Silver Lining Has A Cloud” is SUCH an important work! Powerful, clearly written, enormously informative, this book taught me not only about the emotional rollercoaster an alcoholic takes, but also about the chemical science of alcoholism, which basically stacks the genetic biochemical deck against him or her.

Scott also goes into Al-Anon, the legal system, and the futility of incarceration programs as well as how dysfunctional families play such a large role in alcoholism. Peppered throughout the book are well-versed truisms and great chapter opening quotes, which I personally thought added an extra punch to it all. And lest you think this book is like so many other self-help books, filled with one unprovable case study after another, here, every eye-opening statement or life example is backed up by worthy sources. A true find for everyone!
HIGHLY recommended!

Another Amazon Reader:

“Scott Stevens has again written another very powerful and necessary book. The stigma attached with being alcoholic or recovering alcoholic is overwhelming and Scott explains and goes far to share what needs to be done to erase that stigma.

Scott’s statistics, research, and facts in Adding Fuel are awesome and very useful … especially for people like me who work with people and families who are dealing with alcoholism. There is no room for blame or shame and certainly no labeling when it comes to people who are in recovery. I have never seen those things work for anyone. Many people do want to get sober or clean but, the fear of being “found out,” keeps them from taking the first step into recovery. I truly wish I could get this book into the hands of every teacher, doctor, rehab in the world. It is an eye-opener and it left me feeling hopeful. Thank you again for writing this Scott.”
Highly Suggest This Book!

“Congrats To My Dear Friend Author, Dustin L John On His First Book Release! “

Hello and Welcome Readers and Book Lovers,

.

test3

Just in time for the holidays, I welcome my dear friend and now first time Author, Dustin L. John and his book release of: “A Walk in his Shoes” . . .

Now if this is not exciting enough for my best recovery supporter of mine, but he also contributed some of his addiction and recovery story in another new book release with other authors along with Author, Jake D Parent…
It is titled; “Hearts and Scars: 10 Human Stories of Addiction” . . .

.

Product Details
(click book to Amazon)
.About Hearts and Scars:
.
We lose more than 350 people every day in the United States to addiction. This collection of stories shows how the deadly disease is a conflicted struggle, not simply of broken people, but one that encompasses the human condition that affects us all.  The book consists of two sections. The first is a series of short fictional stories that portray individuals suffering from active addiction. The second is made up of real life tales of recovery, written by the people who experienced the journey themselves.
.
For those directly affected by this horrible affliction, these stories will help you make sense of your journey, both where you came from as well as where you are going. For advocates, policy makers, and others with the power to help, this collection will help humanize the issue. Because, while addiction may be a cunning, baffling disease, it is ultimately one that affects real people.

Only by understanding the humanity within those who suffer from it – as buried as it may sometimes seem to be – can we as a society find the courage and will to finally do what needs to be done to end the suffering.

We have known each other now for about 2 years. We met on social media and he did a very nice Book and Author Interview on his fantastic blog My Sober Life after my recovery book was released was released late Nov, 2012 ~ Here is more about Dustin.”

.
Dustin L John
.

About Dustin The Author:

Dustin John was born and raised in Gallup New Mexico. At age 11, he moved to a small town in Southern Utah. Leading a seemingly normal lifestyle after graduating high school, Dustin’s life took a turn for the worse. A short time after a divorce lead him to bankruptcy, his life began the slow dive into addiction.

By age 22, he was jobless, homeless, running from the law, and searching for his next shot of heroin. Travelling across the western states in search of a safe haven, Dustin landed himself directly in the midst of a massive underground drug ring. After a decade of playing on death’s doorstep, Dustin made a miraculous escape into sobriety. Dustin and his father, Dallas documented Dustin’s drug riddled history in a uniquely written, father/son memoir titled “A Walk in his Shoes”.

Dustin’s father Dallas, passed away from an aggressive illness just months before the book’s final manuscript was published. Dustin has been sober since February 1, 2012 and continues to help in the fight against addiction. He resides in Southern Utah with his wife and their many reptiles.
.

About Dustin’s New Book Release:

Dustin’s life was once full of joy, happiness, security, and success. With a lucrative job, a wife, and a home of his own, he was destined for a life of fortune, prosperity and comfort. That was before heroin. This unique and gripping tale is the first of its kind to tell the story of addiction through the eyes of both father and son.

Together, Dustin and Dallas shine a blinding light on the dark life of a junky. As Dustin decides to travel across the western states in search of a safe haven, Dustin wanders within a few footsteps of his own demise. Instead of finding freedom, however, his addiction cascades into corruption, deceit, and evil. As alcohol and drug abuse continues to ravage every community in America, this groundbreaking memoir offers important insight into the inner workings of an active user, as well as the pain of those loved ones who must helplessly stand by as the family structure disintegrates from addiction . . .
–  –  –  –  –  –  –

Now of course I am NO James Lipton from ‘the actors studio’ but I had a few burning questions for my old friend to make him feel like he was “sittin on the HOT SEAT” a little bit. LOL.
But he handled the answers pretty damn well! …
.

My Burning Questions for Dustin:

1.) I know you are a fantastic blogger and write there, but what made you come to be a writer and share your recovery? —
“The main reason I became a writer is because I knew my story needed to be told. Studying addiction issues in the US made me realize that my experience with addiction could help other families and the only way I could get my story out to the world was to put pen to paper.”

2.) Who inspires you in your recovery? (Writer, Author, etc.) —  “My father was a great inspiration. He was not in recovery but he co-authored my latest book and told the family side of my addiction to heroin. He died of an aggressive illness months before we were able to publish the final manuscript. He was a photographer and a columnist at a newspaper for many years. I decided to dedicate the book to him.”

3.) Was there any fear around sharing your life in book form for the world to read about your addiction and recovery? —  “There is massive amounts of fear in publicizing my story. Many times in the editing process I felt like minimizing what I did while telling my story. Once I realized that my fear was a boogeyman and a great gauge for honest writing, I began to embrace that fear.”

4.) What can you reveal personally about yourself that readers may not know about you and any advice to others in recovery? —  “As a second hobby I breed exotic reptiles. I can also say my ABCs faster backwards than I can forward. One piece of advice I would give to the recovery community and to everyone as a whole would be to learn who they are and where they came from. There is nothing more helpful for gaining happiness in the world than self-knowledge. Taking an objective view of your childhood is the most powerful practice towards freeing yourself from dysfunction and other harmful human attributes.
Dig deep. Be open and honest. Connect. As Socrates said “know thy self!”

“My Thoughts, Prayers and Love Are With My Friends in San Bernardino XO”

“To those families and my friends who grieve today of the loss of a loved one”

.

(Photo Courtesy of Fox News Los Angeles)

My heart is with all my friends and prayers to those who lost loved ones in San Bernardino, CA . . . as we have had another mass shooting in an area I was raised in and still have family and many friends in Highland and Redlands, CA as well …THIS IS the second MASS SHOOTING that has happened to ‘touch’ me as the first was not far from where I lived in So. Oregon, yes, the shooting in Roseburg, OR at the Umpqua Community college.

I moved to So. Oregon in 1986 from San Bernardino/Highland, CA.We moved to the area in 1970 when my dad came home from Vietnam and had his last transfer before retiring from the Air Force at Norton Air Force base. We had moved from Toms River, New Jersey. My parents wanted to retire as they met and married in San Bernardino. I went to elementary, JR. High and graduated from San Gorgonio High School within the San Bernardino School District.

I worked for San Bernardino County and the State Employee’s Credit Union. I also had worked in downtown San Bernardino. My brother still works for the San Bernardino Schools. NOT in a million years would I have ever imagined a MASS SHOOTING like this could happen in my earlier hometown. Thankfully none of my friends were among the victims, but my brother know of the victims. I still can not wrap my mind around all of this unfolding while watching it on CNN. I was stunned in disbelief.

Social Media Is The Place To Be Promoting Your Books!

Hello Authors and Readers . . . Welcome!

Well my dear friend ‘Marsha Freedman’ from The PR Insider is at it again!
She has once again validated why I book promote throughout Social Media for my book promoting clients!

Social Media is where readers are finding more and more new fresh authors and their fantastic reads. So lets see what Marsha has to say on why to use social media as part of your Gourmet Book Marketing Stradegy . . . .

~ Give Your Social Media Efforts The Gourmet Touch ~

If you haven’t gone all in with social media by now, it’s time to make the commitment as you solidify your marketing plans for 2016.

Long gone are the days when you could afford to be a dabbler in social media. It’s developed into a full-fledged profession all its own, and many colleges offer courses and even majors in social media marketing.

Yet to this day I still see companies like book marketing firms and promoters for instance that do little with what should be a great marketing opportunity for their clients. Instead, they depend strictly on strategies that worked for them 5 or 10 years ago, with little or no awareness of the new digital tools that are available.

Frankly, even some companies that make the effort to embrace social media are missing its true value.

How far do some of them miss the boat?

Here’s how far.
Jay York, an EMSI social media strategist, just told me about a company that recently advertised a social media job opening. To Jay’s amazement, the company offered to pay the social media strategist a commission based on sales that resulted directly from the efforts.

Yikes! That’s a clear misunderstanding of social media and the role it plays in marketing. While social media certainly can lead to sales – especially for inexpensive items like books that people buy often – that’s not really its primary purpose.

“Social media is best for building a relationship with potential customers or clients, serving as a critical part of your overall branding efforts.”

Let me share a few steps to help you get the most out of your social media efforts in 2016.  .  .

  • Understand. Opportunities are changing on social media all the time as new features or options are added. Don’t be afraid to admit you don’t understand how it all works. Delve into it and learn all you can. Most social media platforms offer free tips on how to get the best use of the sites, and in some cases those tips are specifically directed to businesses.
  • Plan. Study the different social media platforms and what each could do for you. For most people and companies, and especially small businesses, Facebook is probably the best place to start. Everyone seems to be on Facebook and they just expect that you will be, too. You also need to decide who in your organization will take responsibility for social media because someone needs to be the go-to person who posts new material, monitors feedback from followers and keeps up on trends. Finally, you will want to set a budget so you can get involved in social media advertising.
  • Commit. Don’t dip your toe in to test the water for a few months, and then withdraw if there’s no quick reward. Social media requires a long-term commitment as it’s about building your brand over time and not trying to make a quick strike overnight.

Ultimately, if you don’t have someone in your corner who understands social media and is on top of the newest platforms, the latest social marketing tools and aware of current tactics that have proven to be effective, you need to explore hiring a promoter or firm that can do it for you.

Jay (one of our in-house foodies) likens it to the kitchen of a gourmet restaurant, where so much opportunity would go to waste without a competent chef to oversee the operation.

“The point is, why limit yourself to heating a can of soup when the tools are there to prepare a glorious meal?”

Bon appétit!
