Fairy, Texas by Margo Bond Collins: Book Blast Tour Schedule

*Forthcoming from Solstice Shadows Publishing on February 5th, 2014*

Fairy, Texas. A small town like any other.
.
Laney Harris didn’t want to live there. When her mother remarried and moved them to a town where a date meant hanging out at the Sonic, Laney figured that “boring” would have a whole new meaning. A new stepsister who despised her and a high school where she was the only topic of gossip were bad enough. But when she met the school counselor (and his terminal bad breath), she grew suspicious. Especially since he had wings that only she could see. And then there were Josh and Mason, two gorgeous glimmering-eyed classmates whose interest in her might not be for the reasons she hoped. Not to mention that dead guy she nearly tripped over in gym class.
She was right. Boring took on an entirely new dimension in Fairy, Texas.

I Welcome My Recovery Friend And Author, “Dean Ingram”…

Welcome Recovery Friends, New Visitors, and Recovery Seekers,

I have the pleasure and honor today to welcome a fantastic writer, author and wonderful recovery friend, “Dean Ingram” as my “Special Guest Author” here today. As many of you know, I’m not shy about my recovery from addicted compulsive gambling with too much alcohol, and my mental health challenges. So when I meet like-minded friends, I enjoy sharing what they do! And Dean is one such friend! He has such a way with writing words, and in HOW he shares his own experiences, strength, and share *HOPE* to others!

I do have to confess, I haven’t read all of his book thus far, but it is my next “Recovery Read” on my list to finish.  As I’m trying to finish my next 2 books projects. But what I have read thus far is a powerful recovery share with in-depth insight into the dark world of addictions.

.

.
He is the writer and author of the book, “Dark To Light,” available on Amazon and is in Paperback and e-Book for Kindle!
.

http://www.amazon.com/Dark-Light-Dean-Ingram/dp/1480127183/
“Readers who’s lives are or have been touched in any way by alcohol and drug addiction
will want to read this book.”
.
“Here is a little from Dean as to how his book came to be, and a little about himself  in his own Honest and Raw words!”
.
” …Alone (again) on my boat with an enormous amount of cocaine, I fully intended to blow my heart to smithereens. Cutting fat lines sure to end my misery, an unrelenting voice in my head urgently insisted I “write this down!”. Finally giving in, I found a pen and began. My hand would not stop writing. What spilled out onto that paper astounded me so that I threw the cocaine overboard. Alive and 20 years later, those very words begin Chapter 1, “The Experience”, in my book “Dark to Light”.
.
Dedicated to readers and their loved ones whose lives are or have been touched in any way by addiction, “Dark to Light” relates by example the deeply personal, brutally honest, darkest throes of my 43 year alcohol and drug addiction, the difficult climb out of that hole and the hard-fought transformation to the man I am today while offering tremendous insight and hope for those who may have lost their own.As a teaching tool, I share many tough lessons including how reality is perceived and justified in an addicts broken brain, discovering the one word that was my life ring, 12 Step based solutions for the pain and problems of addiction and a very short sentence that can open the door to recovery”….

.
Dean’s “Powerful words” on his website hit home for me. Because my book was born in a similar “calling” on my heart after reading about a woman who committed “Suicide” by shot-gun, just because she could not STOP her gambling addiction! After reading that article in the paper, I had such a desire and pull to write, because I almost was that woman! I had to see all I’d been through with my addiction on paper, and in black and white not knowing at the time, one day those writings would turn into a BOOK! That is what drew me toward Dean after meeting him on LinkedIn, and visiting his book website here: http://www.deaningram.com …
.
You can also find Dean on LinkedIn here: www.linkedin.com/pub/dean-ingram/84/324/544/  and follow him on Facebook to here: https://www.facebook.com/ingrambooks  so go connect and “Like” and follow his FB page, as he likes meeting new people as I DO!

Dean is a lot like me as he is not shy about who he is, and where he has been in order to reach out to others who still suffer from drug and alcohol problems or those addicted. We can not shatter the “Stigma” if those of us in recovery don’t speak out about these cunning addictions!  The only way to stomp stigma, is up to people like Dean and myself , and to share with others who have not been touched by any addiction, show a little “Insight” so we may “Inform, make Aware, and Educate” the public about these awful addictions that destroy lives.

So I asked Dean a couple of questions that I ask all my *Guests* about their books, as we in recovery all have a story to tell and share. And it is a powerful tool to help new people who have begun their own recovery paths.
.
My 2 questions for Dean are,….
.
1.) What made you become a Writer/Author?  (Dean)  Pent up emotions is what got me started.

2.) What do you find as the most enjoyable part about being an Author? (Dean)  Releasing the pent-up emotion by writing was the most enjoyable part … along with getting acquainted with my personal honesty.

Are those answers too short? LOL………….
.
*No Dean, your answers were just fine! So I hope you’ll join me in “Thanking Dean” for being brave enough to let me share him with all of you! I strongly suggest you go grab a copy of his New Book “Dark To Light,” and if you know a friend or loved one who may benefit from Dean’s story, buy the book and give it as a “Gift” to them, because you never know if it may just save a life, or help someone who has addiction problems reach out for help. And as I always tell you, please let Dean know that *Catherine* sent you!*
.
MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

A Wee Bit Of My Childhood Of “The Goodtimes”…..

Hello and Welcome All,

Even though I’ve been through much in my childhood, one “Bright” spot was the introduction to wrestling in the early 70’s by my dad. He was hooked on it, and loved all the old timers back in the day. This little family tradition seemed to be one of the few things we all enjoyed as a “family” together. Who would have thought a thing like that would intertwine as a family outing and gathering?
It continued to even to the next generation of kids, all 4 of my nephews…I know, it sounds “Crazy” that of all things, wrestling is one sport we all enjoyed as a family. My dad is the one who got us all hooked! When we first moved to So. California from the East Coast, my dad found they had live wrestling in the old part of downtown San Bernardino. So he started talking us kids to see it live. Of course, this was a much different time for wrestling stars back then. It had not become “Commercialized” like it is today.

And I feel very blessed that we actually got to see and meet many of the “Real Old Time Superstars of Wrestling” before it did become “Big Business” by way of WWF,  which then turned into WWE, “World Wrestling Entertainment”….

Many of the old timers I met back then like, “Andre The Giant, Freddie Blassie, John Tolos, and even the “Ladies of Wrestling” like, “Mae Young” and “The Fabulous Moolah”!! I seen both wrestle back in the day! It was a time when the wrestlers would come out into the lobby area after all the match’s were done to come out and sign autographs and talk with you. But by the 80’s? It became a whole another ball game! It became “Commercialized.”
But, many of the “old timers” became trainers and mentors to the “New Superstars of wrestling.”….

.
“The Great Mae Young” Later many wrestlers called her “Auntie Mae”..

.

In current times, staying in one vocation for 20 to 25 years seems like an eternity for most. Even in the rough world of sports-entertainment, where every match could be a Superstar’s last, a quarter-century is considered an incredibly lengthy career. Take that and triple it, however, and you have the span of one of the greatest female competitors to ever lace up a pair of boots — Mae Young.

Johnnie Mae Young began her professional career in 1939. Already an incredible athlete — she was on her Tulsa, Okla.-based high school wrestling team and a national champion softball player — Young embarked on her chosen livelihood at the tender age of 15…

.
“The Fabulous Moolah”

.
.
.

.

.

.

.
They also changed the WWF, “World Wrestling Federation” to the “WWE ~ World Wrestling Entertainment”…
And brand new superstars became to emerge like, “Hulk Hogan and The Rock”….
.

.

.

Just a little trip down memory lane. Who would have thought that a thing like “Wrestling” could make a family happy together? You just never know what can bring a family together.

My family was not your typical bunch, as many know from my sharing. I remember going to visit my Aunt Joan in the early 70’s, and many times she would get tickets for all of us to go see “Wrestling and Roller Derby.” We would watch roller derby, the LA Thunder-birds, then they would have wrestling after. Those were fun and awesome times as a family. Then as my nephews were growing up, they were introduced to wrestling as we would take them to watch wrestling live.

I’ll never forget the time we all went to the LA Sports Arena, as my brother scored pretty damn good seats for all of us. We were 7 rows up from ringside, and right in the isle where the wrestlers came walking down the ramp to the ring!! I actually seen and touched “Hulk Hogan’s” BICEP!! It was HUGE!! And he even stopped to say a few words and flexed his muscles for us! I just about passed out!! It was such an awesome night. But, sadly as I had moved to So. Oregon, I haven’t seen a live WWE match in years.

And, as I got older, I lost my excitement for wrestling. But I still have all those awesome memories of our family all together. Even my mom loved to go! It seemed for a long stretch that the WWF/WWE seemed to get a bit cheesy and off into more “Script” than wrestling.

That was until the introduction in the form of  Mr. Dwyane Johnson ~ “The ROCK”!! I then perked up a bit, and started watching WWE Raw on TV. I actually seen, and had the pleasure of seeing “THE ROCK’S” father wrestler, “Rocky Johnson” back in the early 70’s wrestle.
And The Rock’s grandfather was also a wrestler, “Rocky Maivia”…..

So he had good mentors who helped shape him into the wrestler he is today. And of course,  he branched out into acting & movies…. That was all “Rock’s” doing. I have seen all his movies! Sounds crazy, but one of my favorite movie of the Rock’s is “The Tooth Fairy”….
Of course he made that “Fairy outfit and Wings LOOK GOOD”!!

Now at this point, you most likely wondering why I’m writing about my old childhood memories about wrestling, and how it brought our family together?
Well, I happen to see on”The Rock,” Dwyane Johnson’s Facebook page today a photo of him and Auntie Mae Young.
“The Great Mae Young,” professional wrestler passed away yesterday at the age of 90.
I was so blessed to have seen her wrestle. She was a strong and empowered woman.

“Auntie Mae” will be missed. R.I.P…..
.

Just When We Thought The World Couldn’t Get Any Crazier?~”Dennis Rodman, MAN…WTF?”

OK…..Like there isn’t ENOUGH WEIRD STUFF going on in the world today, here walks in “Dennis Rodman”…AGAIN!

DEAR DENNIS,
.
DUDE? WTF?…..What the HECK where you thinking?
Like it wasn’t bad enough that you wanted to be the most “FABULOUS and FLAMBOYANT” basketball sports STAR there ever was on the face of the EARTH…..
.

.
OK, WE GET THAT, so then you moved on.
Then we see you just not to long ago on “Donald Trumps show ~ THE APPRENTICE ALL-STARS” and you flamed out into the *REHAB SUNSET,” or so that was the rumor.
.

.
BUT THIS NEXT VENTURE? WTF WERE YOU THINKING? NORTH KOREA? CAN YOU NOT SMELL JUST HOW WRONG THIS IS ON SO MANY LEVELS? …
.

.
Now, I and many millions saw your CNN rant on TV with Chris, and I have to tell you it wasn’t PRETTY, even for your flamboyant standards. Really?  Singing Happy Birthday to a so-called friend of  yours? Since when? It was plain to see that you have NOW, not only fell OFF the Booze & Drug wagon, you have now lost your EVER LOVIN’ MIND MAN! I now think it’s time to call in “The Mental Health Professionals”…..

I know, I know, I hear all the “Dennis Rodman” fans and pals yelling! But come on, don’t you ALL think he has gone just a WEE BIT OVERBOARD? I mean, I get what he was trying to explain to Chris on CNN about his trip not being “Political, and he is NOT an American Diplomat ~ THANK GOODNESS,” but I’m pretty sure when he went on his rant yesterday, the looks on all his basketball friends faces looked like they wanted to hide under the FRIST CAVE they could find.

I think I’m also SAFE to say that MR. Trump and even DR. Phil are both shaking their heads at this story! All I know is, all the families of those who have been taken, been HELD HOSTAGE or murdered by North Korea are surely not very happy with you right about now Dennis. Can you blame them?
.

.
North Korea just sentenced a U.S. citizen to 15 years of hard labor, creating a diplomatic crisis.

“When North Korea’s Supreme Court sentenced the American citizen Kenneth Bae to 15 years of hard labor for “hostile acts”—a lesser charge than the capital crime of attempting to overthrow the government which Pyongyang had leveled at him earlier but a harsh punishment nonetheless—it was clear the North Koreans wanted to send a signal.”
.
“Still, from the regime’s point of view, American hostages are much more effective, which is why there have been quite a few of them, including Evan Hunziker in 1996, Robert Park and Aijalon Mahli Gomes in 2010, and Eddie Jun Yong-su in 2011. In each case, the strategic and geopolitical reasons for the timing of the sentences and releases have been quite apparent, and if there is a previous case to learn from, Bae’s most closely resembles the 2009 made-for-television drama that centered on two American journalists, Laura Ling and Euna Lee, who crossed from China into North Korea without visas.”
.
SO I ASK YOU DENNIS RODMAN,….
How do you feel about being there in North Korea knowing families here in “The United States Of America” have loved ones over there being held as “HOSTAGES,” and you not doing one thing to HELP? OR asking one SIMPLE QUESTION to your BFF??
WHY?  WHY don’t you ask your PAL why they think it’s OK to take AMERICANS as hostages?

Well I ASK YOU DENNIS RODMAN, what makes you think your something special? HOW do you think those SO-CALLED doors are going to open? WHAT DOORS? DO REALLY THINK you have what it takes to try the same “Sports Diplomacy that “NELSON MANDELA” tried? Sorry it’s not going to HAPPEN for you!
.

.
SORRY DENNIS,
IT WON’T WORK FOR YOU….WHY YOU ASK?
Because Your NO “NELSON MANDELA,”  and so very far from it. He was a man of “Dignity and was Respected” by the people of his country. Your no leader, your just another AMERICAN in a very SICK COUNTRY, WITH A VERY SICK LEADER that’s IT. Your making a JOKE OF OUR COUNTRY for even being over there, and IF YOU can not see that, then your just as SICK as “Kim Jong Un. I’D watch my back if I were you, in the state of mind your in,…..
YOU JUST MIGHT BE THE NEXT “AMERICAN HOSTAGE.”
.

*A KILLER AND VERY SICK MAN*
.
It’s truly shameful on your part to bring and get your former basketball friends involved as well. It has nothing to do with “Global Unity” through sports, your just showing a “Killer Indulgence, a killer of his own family and people of his own country. Your feeding his Ego, and he is most likely making fun of YOU behind your BACK. Your making a joke of America to a Killer.
.
HOW DOES THAT MAKE YOU FEEL? The SAME AMERICA who affords You all your FREEDOMS! By being in North Korea your mocking the very SAME AMERICAN ARMED FORCES who DIED for YOUR FREEDOMS you seem to enjoy. I’m sure you won’t, but you really should be thinking about that.
.
I’ll only show a few Media Spins about you. You also mentioned about the media giving YOU ABUSE? YOU deserve all of it because of what you’re doing in North Korea! YUP! You should get it as it’s called “KARMA DENNIS”…
Always remember Dennis, you get back what You put out in the WORLD.
So when you get back to the United States, DO US ALL A FAVOR, and for yourself too,…..
Please go back into REHAB…..
.
OK….Just a Few Excerpts….
.
“Dennis Rodman Melts Down in CNN North Korea Interview”
.
“Former NBA player Charles Smith made the case during the interview that the players were only using “basketball diplomacy” to form friendships with North Koreans. Rodman described Kim as a friend, saying, “I love my friend.”
.
Dennis Rodman went on a gravel-voiced tirade against CNN’s Chris Cuomo during an interview on “New Day” Tuesday when Cuomo asked if Rodman might encourage Kim Jong-Un to release U.S. citizen Kenneth Bae.

Rodman, who is leading a team of NBA players, has been criticized for playing a game in North Korea that the country has staged as a birthday gift to Kim. The trip comes soon after Jong-Un, the country’s dictator, executed his uncle.
.
“Family of American held in North Korea ‘appalled’ by Dennis Rodman’s outburst”

> *NOW I’VE SEEN IT ALL! ~ OMG! THE END ALREADY!….THE END.

What Is It Like Living With Mental Illness? ~ 3 Words……

yeah write #143 weekly challenge is open for submissions: personal essays and traditional blog anecdotes

MY THREE WORDS……

People ask me a lot, what’s it like living with Mental illness? I can only tell you what it’s like for me as a Writer, Author and Blogger living with Mental illness. As those who do suffer mental & emotional disorders, we all come from many different types, levels, & paths of this illness. For some, it can be a disease that’s passed down from one genetic family generation to the next. Mental illness can come from brain conditions or injury’s from a traumatic experience like mine, or brain injury like how many of our Armed Forces came home with. Some are from sports head injury’s that we read about of sports stars today. Some can be disorders like PTSD, OCD, or ADD, or some are born with mental disabilities, maybe missing brain or body chemicals. Like I said, we all come from many circumstances.

Mental and emotional illness & disorders can touch anyone. Just like me. I spent the first 40 years of my life I thought, as a normal woman. Living and working each day like everyone else. But I always had these feelings in the back of my mind, at times I didn’t “FEEL” like myself. I’d get depressed and hide in my room as a teenager. Like I didn’t belong or fit in anywhere. Then, these high feelings of endless energy, not much sleep, and I was always THE  fun, vivacious, out going person as an adult. But, at 40 my life changed. It was in that year I also became addicted to gambling. Video poker/Slot machines became my best friend.

At this time, all my feelings the trauma and what happened to me as a little girl started to resurface, as I stuffed them SO DEEP inside me that I hadn’t felt them for years. That all changed when my brother-in-law died in 1992 of cancer. You see, he was the only one I told about what happened to me as a little girl. When my brother-in-law passed, all those ugly feelings came back, and I started using gambling to hide from all those old wounds & pain to the point I became addicted to gambling.

My moods became like “Dr. Jekyll & MR. Hyde.” Then, my mind went BLACK! Like it went void. I don’t remember driving myself  home from a Casino, or remember calling my councilor who was helping me with the grief of my brother-in-law, and my addiction. All I know is what I was told by the policeman who was standing by my hospital bed when I woke up, that I had tried to cut my wrists, as they were bandaged and small cuts everywhere.

I tried to take my OWN LIFE! Needless to say, my Doctors and Mental clinical staff found I was suffering from “Bipolar 2 with manic depression, Panic with Agoraphobia, OCD, and Anxiety, and started on Meds. I believe, GOD was with me that day. I wouldn’t be writing my experience with you today if he wasn’t. What’s it like?

“It’s like watching life outside my window happen without ME in it.”
